Thinking positively - doc says I'm to continue swimming and cycling, so if I do get operated on in early March, I won't be too far behind schedule, my IM plan was only meant to kick off at the beginning of April anyway. Plenty of time to pick up on running.........................I've often run marathons off a 16-week plan! Haven't been smoking something funny, honest. And lots of peeps end up doing run-walk anyway.
Always optimistic that's me. Or should it be "blinkered"?
I am absolutely positive you wont need it judging by your success this year........but if theres a bottle of wine at the top im sure I could be persuaded!
Mrs Z - re the supporting/transition, Fat Buddha is your man. He is looking to set up a Pirate Transition Support so keep popping back here for updates or contact FB direct
Just had a look at Kiln Park for the Long Course Weekend in June. Is that where most people stay when they're down there? Prices looked shocking, tbh;
£171 for a basic tent pitch for 4 nights £225 for my folks to hook up their caravan for the same duration
Does anybody have any alternative suggestions or better ideas? There's a mention of Hungerford Farm on the LCW website, but it looks a little way out of town. Thanks!
Just got to sort out accommodation for the race weekend, how long do most people book and stay for? couple of days before and a day after? i know it's probably personal preference but any advice on best length of stay for an ironman noob would be welcome.
If abroad, arrive on Thursday, register and rebuild bike. Friday relax & pasta party etc. Saturday, rack bike and more relax. Sunday - race. Monday - Drink beer and relax. Tuesday, get sherpa to pack and leave for home. How much time do you have ??
There it is.... I took all the abuse for not being man enough to camp... now you are all following suite and getting a caravan!!
lol.. very true... but then again you did also bring your mum to cook for you and tuck you in at night ;-) ..... i beleive the moral high ground is still ours ... just

You lost that moral high ground when you had me and Kat carry your stuff back... not long after I had finished my own Ironman
(yeah OK my parents carried all my stuff back and left me to get drunk but that doesnt matter)
Hi can anyone recommend a good training plan,I have looked at going long by joe friel and iron fit by don fink, have also thought about the plan on the im wales website but dont fancy the £360. IM Wales will be my first IM so I want to try to get it right..
Go for Fink IMHO its very easy to follow and I used it for my first couple when i didnt have a clue just be honest with what your current fitness level and goal is then pick a programme - get you round, intermediate , or competative
read going long as well as Fink, (if you can) and use it to tweak the appropriate fink plan, re HR zones, reduce the swimming a bit, inc the biking, etc etc
remember, consistency is key, hitting the key long sessionns each week is what its about, the remaining sessions are filler....

That's rubbish UIW
At least with the new WTC rules on changing events you would be able to cancel and get a 2013 entry for almost no cost
Well Slagiatt............

I remember being a little shocked at the camping cost for 4 nights in late september at kiln park, for a tent. - ie £80-100 ish I think.....
however that was not the peak holiday time.....
and it was wet and windy.
and we left after 3 nights
but kiln park is close(ish) to the action - no having to drive into town is an advantage.
The pub is 'interesting'
the whole place is "interesting!"
any campsite that has a burger king on site is always going to have its characters! - imagine going there in the hight of the school holidays
i don't think anyone stayed the last night - irene saw to that!
^ you did choose the worst place to erect a tent!
i've not sorted my accommodation yet...
Ive gone for a caravan as well for next time ... Just in case the Americans send us the tail end of one of their hurricanes again.

For reference my caravan for 3 nights cost £270 last year, booked in late October I believe
