Are there any Serpies out there going to this?
I'm a Serpie who has yet to pluck up the courage to go to a track speed session, but since they are doing this benchmarking session I thought I'd give it a go.
For anyone who doesn't know what's planned on the night they will test us at
400m
800m
1000m
1 mile
& a 15 minute time period to see how many laps we can run in that time.
And apparently there is plenty of rest time between each distance. (Good!)
They also will take a few details from us about our current training and about our goals for the coming year.
It's starts at 7pm on 21st (this Thursday) at Battersea Running Track (details on the serpie website.)
You must be a Serpie member to attend.
Anyway, has anyone done the track sessions before as I'm extremely nervous about this!?
Cheers
Caz.

have not done a track session bevore. This will be my first, and if I enjoy it not my last.
In the future I will go for the Tuesday sessions, but they are inofficial for the moment, so they are not insured.
See you on Thursday, (or Wednesday)
Lars
Do you know where the nearest tube station is to Battersea Park?
http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dll?grid2map?X=528500&Y=177400&arrow=Y&zoom=2&title=UK+Street+Map
But there are buses and trains from Victoria. I will ask some people tomorrow.
Excuse my ignorance, I've not seen you on the forums before, that I can remember, are you a man or woman?
Cheers
Caz.
Just don't be daunted by the number of reps the coach says you have to do, it normally only adds up to 3-4 miles over the whole session.
I'm sure you'll have a great time!
It's also a pretty social occasion, since everyone normally regroups for each rep you have more chance to talk to people who run at a different pace to yourself during the "rest" periods inbetween.
I shall pluck the courage up then. I have fears I'll be the only snail there!
Robin I've been a Serpie for only a few months too.
Andy are you a Serpie then?
I feel much better now. PHEW!
Yeah don't be nervous about it, just go along and have fun!
Hi Mike & Andy.
<horrified mode ON>$%&**!? Are you a man oor a woman?<horrified mode OFF>
my Name is not english, but it is clearly a north European MALE name, i think.
And to the slow discussion, I will be probably behind most of you, but it is not a race, so it does not matter.
Sorry, maybe another week.
What speed group do you run in?
Have you done the longer runs on a Wednesday night yet? They've started them in the last few weeks.
I've looked on the site and emailed them, but nitto.
Cheers
Caz.
3 Parks brings back memories...
So, how did it go?
Did you enjoy it?
Are you hooked on the track now?
Hope it was cool for you both!
Andy
Robin/Lars, did you go? What was it like?
We did some slow laps for warmup and a game in the beginning.
Then we did a mile. Mine was in 6:45. (Spits were 1:31, 3:11, 5:00).
After 400 m recovery we did a kilometer. I did mine in 4:10. (If you compare this with the mile splits I became slower.)
Then 600 m recovery and 800 m (3:10).
Then 400 m, and I was really motivated to break the WR.
I was running like Michael Johnson (like I have swollowed a broomstick), and I could see the lamppost bending due to my airstream (up to 150 m). Then I decided, I do not need a style and I just crawl it to the end in 1:20.
All in all it was fun, and for my first track session it was OK. I will go more often now, but I will prbably go on Tuesdays.
It is a pity you were not there. The best part was, like after every run, the pub.
Do you know if they are planning anymore benchmarking sessions?
Let me know about the Tuesday ones anyway and how they go as I don't mind which one I go to as long as I do go, eventually!
Oddly enough, and some people may not believe this, but I have never been to the pub after the run, I have always gone home. Goes against my beer/wine drinking reputation.
Caz - the thread has finally prompted me to do something about it and have just this minute joined the Serpentine Club online, so thanks I think!
Clearly haven't managed to turn up yet - does anyone know if I'd be better going on Tues or Thurs?
Glad I won't be the only newbie - again!
