who would you cross the road to shake hands with and why?
For me there is only two people in my 50+years on this rock, and the 1st is Cassius Clay 2nd is Daley Thompson. Both these men had everything.Style, charisma, great personality, bucket loads of talent, and more.
Comments
Robert Smith - For being with me in happy & sad times since i was 12!
Dave Grohl - For just being Dave !
Mike Atherton - I watched enthralled as he had his 'duel' with Alan Donald in South Africa.
John Edrich - similar reasons although I only saw a recording of his innings where he, literally, put his body on he line protecting his wicket against the might of the West Indies bowling attack. His body was black and blue from the cricket balls that hit him.
Lance Armstrong - A legend.
Colonel H Jones. (Falklands War Hero)
My grumpy Old Man- To thank him for the stubborn streak in me and I don't think I thank him enough for all he's done for me, and my Mum - same reason!
You may get a slug in the mouth if you call Muhammed Ali by that name. Especially as he changed it 47 years ago.
My Mum and Dad too - both in their late 70s and although in good health won't be around for ever - have given us 3 children so much love and support with so many personal sacrifices without much money - can never ever begin to say thank you!!
Steve Ovett for inspiring me.
Steve Jones for showing the world the way to go.
Paula Radcliff for following on from Steve
Eammon Martin for being Eammon a down to earth bloke
Charlie Spedding from last to First
Liam Brady just for THAT goal at White Hart Lane all those years ago!!
One of my favourite all time authors lives in my village and I have stood next to him at the school gates many a time and have never said a word. When he did a reading of his latest book at the school for PTA funds I got a signed copy and spoke absolute twaddle at him
BDB
I knew that would crop up.
But for me what he called hisself is irrelevent. He's still the greatest ever.
Harper Lee...
BoTF - if you get to be a lord for being in/directing a few films, just goes to show what a load of nonsense the whole honours thing is anyway?
I wouldn't actually cross the road to shake hands with any famous/sports people - I'd be embarrassed at sticking myself in their space, and they might just want to be left alone to get on with their shopping.
If I met someone famous at an event where they are "at work", then I will say hello.
A musical hero of mine once apologised to my wife for his hair getting in the way when she & our kids were sat behind him at a panto.
No prizes for guessing it was Brian May - what a gent.
