anyone else for a bit of spotted dick????image...

gastank, i have visited the sock thread....now worrying about buff situations that could occurimage

i am in the 'low danger' section of sock problems i have decided. i keep strict regulation of my sockies with military order. my lighter colour socks have been worn less as i have black Nikes. pastel colour socks i decided  early on were not aesthetically pleasing with black trainers thus leading me to purchase black socks. as i only have 2 pairs of these, my risk of 'sock lossage' (is this even a wordimage) is minimised.

  • ok Loula youre probably rightimage  and im at the dentists tomorrowimage just a check up
  • We only have sock issues when someone other than me puts a wash together.hmmmm...
  • My theory is that sock loss is only minimised if you choose colours which align with the family's predominant colour thereby maxing the chances for the socks to get washed and minimise being cast to one side in favour of more predominant colour preference, which could be seasonal - I am however with you on sock colour co-ordination (vitally important) and therefore it would be wise when running shoes to also take this into consideration!

    nice one phantomimage

gastank, this topic could be discussed in some great depths you knw*nods head approvingly and gets clipboard and centrifuge machine out of shed to mimic washing machine centrifugal force*

do you think gastank that paler colour socks as with lighter weight objects will move to the top of the machine much as denser objects (socks darker in colour) will be affected by centripetal acceleration and be moved in a radial direction?image

    .

  • It's an interesting point Lou, I now also wonder if I could improve washing throughput with one of these newer larger load washers and thereby decreasing both cycle times and possible MSD? I think the denser/lighter colour choice has ir's merit but my initial studies suggest it is not the sock molecular weight which influences the propensity for MSD, but rather more the case of the socks' statistical chance of being 'chosen' for washing in an equal paired number when living in mixed household with a definite weighting in colour.

The phantom suggestion is good, but what of the pillow/cushion case colour and therefore positioning in the queue (consider black socks in a white pillow case as sm example, msd definitely reduced but cycle time increased in a dark colour predominant household) and environmental impact of washing socks "separately" has it's own issues both politically and fiscally.

I think I need to invent a sock pairing device which when combined with my time and motion colour preference study analysis, should yield a 99% level of accuracy (except where EM needs to be deployed to retrain small animals)

  • EM? now im really getting into thisimage* dons physicist spectacles to look the part*image

  • gastank, perhaps the simple but efficient useage of a sock colour divider recepticle placed in a prominant but  strategic position in the household would eliminate premature sock seperation-(PSS)?.....image*goes deep into thought with calculator and several rulers*.........(the calculator is merely to make me look clever*

  • EM - English mustard , when accelerated MSD is experienced due to introduction of small animal into the household, "baiting" a sick trap with a light spread of EM discourages future sock theft

sock receptacle good thinking, did try something similar for sick and gym kit, did decrease MSD but increased SCT as was no longer considered part of main washing throughput and was then prioritised BELOW whites!!!!
  • A peg! Peg each sock to it's mate before putting in the wash. Then,if the worst should happen, they will still be together
  • Peg is interesting, but need to be careful not to cause fouling and plucking of other clothes and must be able to withstand the rigours of the spin cycle - I think I'll have investigate a bit more By Eck to ensure correct material which does not cause damage...
  • BREAKING NEWS !!!

London Sock Exchange idea "floated" on main "sock" thread, Footsy 100 begins trading tomorrow, our own Merlie is first trader looking to give a good home to a sock, details of sock specification coming soon. CRAC team welcome to participate, PM Merlie for more info, but we'll post it on the sock thread as soon as we have it.

Here's looking to tomorrow for our first successful trade!

  • Good Morning CRAC team.

Hope we are all well this morning and nobody else has come down with the lurgy or any injuries.

Happy running to anyone who gets the chance.

Run club for me tonight, Hopefully.

    Have a good day friends.image

    WAIT !! whats SCT?image

Morning franny, serious talk here about MSD.....join in  please  and out my mind at rest tht these guys arnt making me crazyimage

not sure this theory is safe...could come under the DTM( 'danger to mechanics') act 2012.....i concur that the peg object could cause audiable irritation on any cycle thus leading to friction in householdimage*puts on specs and grabs clipboard and audio recorder*
  • Wonders about the sock theories being proposed and brain starts to wander.....
Time to get on with housework and baking. Hmm, what would people like on the trolley tonight.
  • image Pleased I was watching Sherlock on iplayer last night and not having to take part in the sock experiments.

Ummmm, how about some scones with clotted cream and raspberry jam? Haven't had those in a while and  the weather here is just like Spring. Mild and sunny today. Am preping for tonight's class at the moment but hope to get out for a run before I pick the kids up from school this afternoon.

Mind you, sticky toffee pudding and cheescake are never refused either.... image

  • Morning all,

Franny- Enjoy your club run tonight.

LLB- I am sure you will be fine in your Marathon - are you going to let us know the time you are going for?

Mathschick- How is the swelling today?

Phantom- Thnsk for the mans perspective on Dr's- I am really scared of them & would rather not go tp the specialists. At the moment I am unable to make an appointment until later in the week anyway due to the starnge NHS system.

Gastank-I am going to have to look up this scock thread that got you all so excited last night.

byeck-Well done on your double run last night.

I decided to go for a run when I arrived at my office this morning so I had a nice 5.6 mile run in about 42 minutes which was good. As we have a shower in the office I bought a change of clothes, but, forget a top so had to go and buy a shirt!!! Managed to get a £4 jumper that fitted me and it was a small size!!!

  • Hi all!

AF - I 'll make the changes to the race list.  I've read 'The island' and really enjoyed it.  I love reading novels about different places while I'm actually there.  It really brings the novel alive.  Sorry you have to wait for another appointment.  Sounds like there is nothing to worry about though.

Phantom - Good luck at the dentist's.

Mathschick - sorry to hear your foot is swollen.  It's hard to keep off of it when you are teaching all day.  Take care!

Well done on all your runs folks!  I haven't had a chance yet this week but hope to run tomorrow evening.  Daughter's swimming competition has been postponed (it's amazing how often this happens here) so it is one less thing for us to worry about this weekend.   I managed to buy a couple of things for middle son last night after staying at school a bit late but I'm having to buy from all my family in England and there is still stuff to get.  He may have to have some presents tomorrow and some at his party sleepover.   I also managed to buy myself a new pair of jeans (much needed) and was pleased I could squeeze into a 10!  (which is very small for me and my previously huge bum.)

Anyway, presentation thingy tonight at school and music exams tomorrow.

    Have a good day friends!

    BFN

  • Jude, how do you manage to pack it all in? I would need an assistant!
So far, cooling down for the trolley tonight or in the oven -
Cheese and Italian herb bread (great for refueling after runs)
    Cinnamon bread
Mini butterfly cakes (one bite and they're gone)
    Flapjacks

    To be cooked later -
    Fruit scones
    Apple scones

I'm wondering if doing chocolate chip scones with clotted cream and nutella is overkill...

Oh, and homemade leek and potato soup
  • byeck-That is a feast! Please can you save me some flapjacks for the weekend?

Jude size 10 what a petite lady you must be. Good luck with the presentation thingy.

  • Wow!  By"Eck - wish I could pop over to yours.  I love everything on your menu.

    AF - thanks!

  • Okay, I think the party tonight is at Byecks! image We're all coming to gate crash your house. We're honestly not that demanding so cups of tea/ hot chocolate around the kitchen table will be perfect whilst we munch through your baking day.

AF - good going on the run and the new jumper.

Jude - you are an amazing women... how do you keep it all straight in your brain.

Have done my 5 miles and am off to get the kids.

I've been on low mileage runs since the beginning of Dec cos I haven't been happy with the dark nights. But next week I start up building up my LSR again so i've got a good base to begin my training plan in Feb.

  • boss, do you want me to make some of my special running flapjacks? They have dried fruits soaked in fruit juice and various seeds in to give an extra energy boost.
  • afternoon all, AF i know lots of people dont like Drs etc but we all mean well -honest!!....spesh whn i get to stick needles in peopleimageimageimage

mmm yummy, lots of scrummy things on trolley then! i'll have any of itimage...i usually make flapjack for runs so must remember to do some for next week ! AF, i think i will be about 4:40...but maybe longer with fatigueimageimage so shall we say 4:50? thats reasonable for my first id say.

jude, i have nightmares with clothing, jeans are the worst ans i have one pair from next kids that fit age 10 and a pair from DP size 4 ...im hanging on to them for dear life as i cant find anymore that fitimagemiss llbs clothes are of a size now that we can share some things so thats handy indeedimage

ecky , glad you gor sorted at docs-you are on the mend already chuckimage(((((((hugs)))))))))))))

by'eck the sock theory has become rather interesting hasnt it?

  • Loula, you get to stick needles in people? Do any of them faint?
baking has now stopped so little miss can bake some croissants. I must confess I succumbed to 1 but we are having quorn mince for tea so figured it would help to balance it out.
Ecky, how are you after drs?
  • yes by'eck...diabetes tests...erm, some look a bit pale and clammy, but i usually give them 5 minutes to fill in forms and calm them down a bit
  • You mean the fingerprick test? That's not even a proper needle. Ha! Weaklings
