The running was actually good, I didn't feel tired, I was even tempted to ignore the command to walk in the middle, but my right ankle and/or shin started saying Yoyoyo fuk this for a lark! so I stuck to the plan.
I did have a slight cardiovascular crisis when, just as I was going to begin the final run, two joggers went past, so my ego (god!) made me overtake them...the pace of course was eeeek and I couldn't slow down until I got round the corner'
You should find that the aching shins and whatnot will pass in time - I think it was about week 8 for me - I still get achy limbs, but not in the same way I did initially when I wondered if I was doing myself an injury...
That speeding up when you see other runners thing may or may not go away.
I use other runners, cyclists, buses ( yes i know mad) as a bit of Fartlek running.
Tonight there was one cyclist, over took him on the flat ( oh yeah) and a whole group of runners, but they were not going so fast.
Oh i would make a terrible running partner as I am a mixer of if only I trained more I could be in the Olympics (yeah right!) and mad as a Gibbon chase the bus, chase the bus, last one to the bus stop has to run the next mile backwards!
Not good.
Have you ever tried Lindt white chocolate balls?
Someone bought some in to work over Christmas I has a few
My capacity for chocolate is only limited by my lactose intolerance.
You'll be grand. I recall at that stage I did take one or two 30sec walking breaks when I felt I really did need them. There's no guilt in walking if you really need to, I used to beat myself up about it!
A touch of the cheeky walk never did anyone any harm. Once I got onto the solid running bit of my programme, I used to sometimes need a bit of a walk - maybe to have a drink, 'cos I'm useless at doing that on the move...
Holy Shizzle I did it without stopping...moreover some freaky imp sprite or demon took over and I continued without stopping until 30 mins...!
My lungs did jump out of my mouth to see what was going on, and my right shin is imminently going to shatter, but it's pretty good for an 18 stone fatty!
About half-way through I just became sort of 'balanced', in that it wasn't getting harder, and whilst not easy, it felt sustainable, so I sort of knew I could manage to continue.
I've been running for 5 years now after a mid-life break of 20 years...
Every year I find it tough to run after a winter break (due to snow and ice and wanting my injuries to heal). But threads like this make me want to run ever more...
I have a half marathon in June (I do 2 or 3 a year now) and have just started back running this season. If I have your great attitude I'll be fine. Like you 5 years ago I started out with 10 minute runs and it went from there... and yes... there is always pain somewhere... no matter how fit you get...

Bees: I hope so, it's not severe but it hasn't been going away since January!
Does anyone go running with their Sweatshop? The Reading one does two a week, one for the not advanced...

Cake: well it does seem to me that I'm a grade-A masochist - I either 'hurt' my body with naughty naughty food or with evil exercise!
