It's new this year, so no, nobody will have done it. But I know the area well and it will be tough but the scenery is brilliant if you don't mind huge hills. If you want a taster of the course, the Long Distance Walkers Purbeck Marathon at the end of June - they have a running event which sets off after the walkers - follows a very similar route but you have to map read. It's only £7 (I think) compared to the Purbeck Marathon at £35.
Sadly busy at the end of June - same for the other LDWA event in august - the dorset doddle - already busy then Is it a nice place? Could I convince Mrs pmo that she'd like it (the place that is), and make a long weekend of it? Might look for something closer to home though..
It couldn't be in a nicer place! However I'm a bit biased because I live here and run here and am actually part of the team putting the marathon together!
Actually, one of the reasons that we believe that this marathon will be such a success is because the area is so beautiful so it will offer supporters so much more than other marathons.
We are actually planning to put together a separate supporters pack with details of some lovely walks that will encompass some of the route so that everyone is happy!
Hey compo, you should come and join the Purbeck Runners for a run when you are down. We're a friendly bunch! We meet on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays and always welcome visitors. I'd particularly recommend a Sunday morning run as they are long and leisurely!
I hope that someone can review this race, as I'm considering entering in 2013. I have no problem with the steep uphills but am less comfortable on very steep downhills: just how steep are they?
Alan D, there's only one serious downhill at 20 miles (ish), but that has steps cut into it. The rest are very runnable. Now the uphills on the other hand, the elevation profile on the race's site tell the whole story
There are plenty of ratings for the race now, check them out.
I come from Poole originally so know the area fairly well, and love it. pmo no problem for your wife, it is a great area to take a break. Have biked and walked quite a bit of it but not run it apart from as a kid. Will be on my list for next year

Are you tempted then?
I was just looking at that one today - looks interesting!
Will look at the LDWA site now too!
LDWA event on a date I cannot make, but keen on the marathon though! Will see what the wife says!
Might look for something closer to home though..

To be honest the downhills are pretty steep! Steve has included his garmin stats so you can see on there
Hope this helps

Thanks - and I see there is also another thread on http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/forum/events/the-purbeck-marathon/211673.html
Amazed that Steve Way managed to run the course in under 3 hours !
