80 miles on the bike yesterday has definitely given me more self belief. This was a big jump up in distance and climbing. I was worried that I may have to bail and cut down to 60 miles. I can recommend a sportive as it was much easier with people to chat to and a well signed and interesting route.

I was really surprised that the extra distance was okay and no major discomfort. I have now taken the plunge to do Liverpool HM next week, hopefully that wont take away my new found belief image

Nothing wrong with positive kiddo. What your aiming for is at least as much mental as fisical. If you have ever seen kelly's hero's think positive vides and it will happen. Me, frodo and a few others will be at liverpool if you want to say hello havn't decided what to wear yet but I'll make it pirately so you can spot me or leg it.

just remember this is a starter for bigger and better races in the races it's going to be fun. image

  • Kelly's Heroes is brilliant. Woof woof!
  • Soup - just read your post.  Sorry to hear you have come to this decision but it sounds as if you have made the right decision for you and that it what matters most.  There has to be a life/training balance and, at the end of the day, you have to want to go out the door for the swim, bike, or run sessions.

See you in Liverpool. The Pirate Monaco will be out for me in full muffin top showing glory.

Race well pirates and hopefully I will meet a few of you on Sunday. Any plans for a pint after the finish?

  • Havn't made plans any yet LB should be about somewhere hopefully and Cougie and Frodo will be there. Staying at frodo's Saturday so will ask. If you pick a pub shout up but be warned I should be near the back as I'm a bit sh*t at the moment. image
  • Muffin Just spoke to Steve ho this afternorn and he's going to pop down from manc after the race for a pint. If you havn't found anyone and wondering to say hello to he's easy to spot about 5.2 tall very nice and smiley chap off chinese decent. image
  • Thanks everyone's kind words. I keep telling myself to HTFU but its not working for me. Part of the reason for signing up to this as well was to "enjoy" or at least get satisfaction from doing the training, not cramming in what I can and hoping for the best. But I will enjoy lobbing bottles at you all from the feed station.

Wrist still sore and my arm's gone yellow/blue. A repeat x-ray next week is looking likely. image

Good luck to all Liverpoolers. image

  • Soup - get yer arse to your FB messages image
  • shuffle b is probably out of the full distance

No training for the last 8 weeks due to crazy stupid work dead lines meansshe will go for a swim / bike training day.

She may saunterfor a 5k but will probably be looking at cutoff

Shes happy as not coming second to last at the Vit t is now the target
    :image
  • Sorry to hear about Shuffles. Look forward to keeping her company though on not being second to last at the Vit. image

I wondered about doing a swim/bike training day, perhaps with a shorter bike but it makes it an expensive swim/bike. I think I'll stick to bottle lobbing. I might camp too.

Should have had my grievance heard at work yesterday but occy health told me I'm not well enough for it. I'm off work for another 4 weeks now - frustrating to think of all that training I could do if I was still doing Outlaw.  A run planned for tomorrow though.

Hope everyone else is getting on well.

  • Honest SD...i know everyone has been really nice...and you've obviously got to make decisions for your own reasons...BUT...on july 1st you will be sooo pissed off that you didnt just crack on and have a go!!
Look...we do this (most of us) for fun....and to strike a balance between staying fit and being a fat old drunk (me anyway)
ironman (outlaw) is not easy...it takes courage to even turn up on the day...and if you dont finish so what...you're still 1 of the 1 percent willing to try....i know you're hurt yourself...and i know training gets in the way of life and life gets in the way of training but come on....'enjoy the garden'????
Fabrice Muamba, a 23 year old premier league footballer (i'm a bolton fan but i'm sure you've heard) is currently fighting for his life..after having a cardiac arrest on the pitch...and not to trivialise anything your going through...but that surely puts things into perspective....Life is short.......be brave and become Iron....you still have 15 weeks....and sitting in the garden wont make you nearly as proud as crossing that line..I know!!!

    come on...dont give in.....fight!!!

if things are bad...dont panic...PREPARE!! pm me if you wanna chat off line...sorry if you think i'm out of order but i know you can do this and the fact you're still here proves you want to be involved...why be on the sidelines?
    much love
  • Andy - no offence taken and no you are not out of order at all. You talk what has been whizzing round in my mind but clouded by the black dog of depression (evil condition that it is). My head is clearing now but my wrist is still in a splint and I won't know if it needs to go in plaster till Thursday which means 5 weeks of lost training.  Then time away over Easter will make it 6 weeks lost - thats most of the build period.  Yes I could start and perhaps not finish but at £ 250 squids or thereabouts its an expensive have a go. But you do talk sense and yes I will be gutted on the day so I will see what Thursday brings at the fracture clinic then think again.

We're here for you Soupy image and selfishly I'd love to have your company on the (long) journey we have in front of us...........

Years ago on a uni field trip we were going up a (little) mountain (can't remember why) and when we got near the top there was the choice to go on to the top or muck around and descend...........guess which I chose and guess what I've regretted ever since??????

Can you turbo with your arm? Or run? My pal who had the shoulder before Antwerp was back running before she could drive again!

  • And look image

I've even finally got RW to let me have an avatar.........it's got to be an omen image

  • SD - Hope the news is good on Thursday image

    Fingers crossed for Thursday soupy.
  • Soupy you’re going to be fine. Wibbles are understandable even if everything is going great, If you need any help you know where we all are and I for one would be temped to skip down south for a training ride or swim when you can at some point if it’s any help. ((((hugs))))
  • Soupy, always here for you lass. I just talk a lot...
  • You are all such lovely people! imageimage

    Pirates indeed Rock. image

  • *kerthunk* It really is like Vit all over again. I hope you've not pulled out of Outlaw yet then image

ETA - What I said on FB is still true though. There's only one of you and plenty more races. You did sound like you'd thought your decision through and I'm sure there's still spare seats flight available to Lanza next year.
  • so more news on my shoulder....saw a new physio yesterday and it seems it is a rotator cuff again (which i knew but the physio had a different opinion)...not swam for 4 weeks now (not that i'm bothered swim training is overrated anyway...especially in the pool) and got some more rebuilding to do including seeing a should rebuild specialist...i reckon it will only take a few weeks and as long as i can swim OW when that starts i'll be fine for the race....wont break any of my own very modest times no doubt but once again as long as i'm on the bike by 8am (maybe a little quicker) i'll be happy on the day!!!
  • Andy..........yes agree swimming is overated.......i just hope I can remember how......
starting to have a minor wibble and so might buy a weekly swim ticket and go and swim every day...thats the theory.but might get bored after 5 mins.and not this week....
  • Im going swimming at lunch time image That'll make about 3 sessions this year

I'm recently back in the pool. 1000yds today, and it is getting crunchy. Hopefully most of this is fatigue. I imagine my swimming will tick over from now until the big day. The HIM in May will be interesting...

  • well i didnt drown ....did 2400m ... non stop, bur easy/slow pace (48mins)
  • in a pool it takes me 42 minutes to do a mile!!!!

I'm with you Andy - think I once managed a mile in just under 40 minutes! Did 2.5k this morning for the 1st time! imageDidn't drown, but did take an hour. Still, should be easy to spot me bike!
