*Special Needs - All reasonable requests will be catered for i.e. SIS/High 5 gel, banana, Jelly Babies, boiled sweets etc, even lager & Guiness have been requested before. To be sure we have what you need or for more obscure requests please leave items at the Runners World stand at the registration Expo. Supporters will be collecting them Thursday, Friday & Saturday. Items should be market with: name, race number & support group number.
Location of Support area
With approx 40,000 runners it is almost impossible to pick out individuals as they pass, therefore its important you know where to spot us.
The support area is on the right hand side of the road at the pelican crossing by mudchute DLR station. There is a water station immediately after the 17 mile point, pelican crossing is immediately after the water station. I will post a close of google map/google earth image of the area with exact location shortly.
Supporters will be standing in sequential group order along the course. The area will be festooned with blue and yellow balloons so should be easy to spot, when you get to us, look out for the support group numbers and go over to your respective group.
Please use this thread to ask any questions and look out for further information which will be posted up until the race. Any final instructions will be posted Sunday 15th April.
Good luck everyone..
Comments
I’ll post asked for details later. Just popping in to say Hi and thank the organisers for doing this yet again.
Hi everyone
I'm most excited the groups are allocated - 5 weeks today and we'll be there - woo hoo!!
Can't wait to get to meet everyone
Just to let you know I can do pickups from the Expo any day if needed - it's within striking distance of where I work.
Hope the training's going well. Good weather has been ordered for the day.
Now, I have been a Grope 3 supporter (the magic numbers) and a Grope 5 but now we need a tag for the Terrible Twos .... oh I seem to have it
Welcome aboard the Terrible Twos. Tantrums and tiaras mandatory. Gin optional. Fun guaranteed. Bring it on ..
TP - am I right in thinking you're coming from north of the Border?
Nice work SBH.
Sorry to lose one already but I shall be adopting as we go as ever.
<snigger> well it seemed quite appropriate for runners ...
No, I think we'll stick with the Terrible Twos and throw huge tantrums over who gets the biggest fizz allocation or most jelly babies.
I am practising my foot-stamping, breath-holding and dry-eyed crying in order to set the standard for Terrible Two behaviour -I just need to cast my mind back to when LD and AS were toddlers to have some good role models!!
Welcome aboard ST. I dont believe either of your two would have done such a thing ...
Well, this runner (term used in its loosest possible sense) is having champagne, so you can have all the gin you fancy
So tell us how your training's going, runners - any hideous LSR stories? Awful injuries? Or are you all bounding along like gazelles, for 90 miles a week ?
Dear fellow RW forumites - spectators and runners
This is Mick speaking
Some of you will no doubt know a lot about us , some may not
So, to say -
We as already stated hope to get to Mudchute to have a day of fun
But my day will depend on Philip’s behaviour, as he is most content on the move, and not so much us being static
He sadly does not give me much chance to socialise with anyone, he really craves my attention , Philip can be extremely demanding, he can do very little for himself, and he cannot talk he shreaks
So, please if I appear to be ignoring anyone or not interested, I’m sorry, I’ll do my utmost best to be respectful and polite and sociable to you all , but my life is easier when he’s happy
I myself would so much rather be running, and its only due to London marathon bosses that we are not
So, my apologies are given up front,
I do hope you all have a fabulas day
If there’s is anything you’d like to know from me, then please feel free to ask, online here or on the day, and I’ll do my best to accommodate you
Best wishes always
Mick
Hello!
Thanks to all those who are doing the organising and in advance for the lovely supporters....I hope you don't mind waiting for the slowest plodder in the history of snail like people.
I'm loving being in the terrible twos as well. Hahaha.
Going to get my thinking cap on special needs wise...the thought of alcohol is tempting!
Mick really hope you manage to get Mudchute and you and Phil have a great day. You're brilliant. xx
Mick, it would be great to see you at Mudchute but you're right, Phil comes first.
I love all this competition for who's going to be the slowest runner in our group! I can tell you all for a fact that Loon and I will definitely be the slowest, as we will end up walking pretty much all of it (brisk pace, mind you!). Loon has hip bursitis and I have only recently returned to exercise after a year of serious illness and fairly unpleasant treatment, so we will be taking our sweet time going round, soaking up the atmosphere and enjoying the day. So, if any other runners in the Terrible Twos seriously, genuinely think they will be doing the race at fast walk pace, with a bit of plodding as and when, you are very welcome to join our little party I will be dressed as Alice in Wonderland, Loon has a magnificent Mad Hatter costume and the third friend who will be with us will be the Cheshire Cat, so feel free to dress as Tweedledum or Tweedledee, or the White Rabbit, the Queen of Hearts etc.
It's going to be A Grand Day Out
