I’m looking to go away on holiday in April to do some warm weather training. I’m not sure whether to book a proper running holiday package or just do my own training.
Ideally I would like somewhere with plenty of good road running routes, hills, track (optional) and a beach nearby. I would prefer to stay in a hotel/sports complex rather than an apartment so that I don’t have to worry about preparing my own food each day. La Santa in Lanzarote and also a place in the Algarve are a couple of options I have explored.
Has anyone got any advice or suggestions?

Matthew – The Algarve is the traditional location for spring training camps and its definitely set up for it. If you do a quick google search you’ll find several companies offering camps there in April. I went in March and it was ideal for what I was looking for. Lots of nice routes, track, cross country course, 5 mile beach and warm and sunny every day. I would go to a training camp if you can as you’ll get loads of advice, be shown the best routes and meet loads of other runners.
I’ve heard good things about the facilities at La Santa as well but it does come at a price and personally I think you’re better off going to a camp anyway. But I guess it does depend on what you are looking for.I don't know anything about La Santa specifically but I went to Lanzarote recently (for a work Christmas weekend away of all things!) and the island has some lovely quiet roads for running/cycling. Very popular place with cyclists, triathletes, etc. A pretty dramatic volcanic landscape, a lot of it looking like this:
