yes did Amsterdam in 2008...good race, was interesting running along the river/ canal going out of the city and then coming back (no one fell in that i saw anyway)....thanks
The Purbeck Marathon! Sept 16th in the beautiful Purbeck hills in Dorset. It's the first year of running and it's going to be amazing. It's mostly offroad, incredibly scenic, pretty hilly but the views will make up for it!

Rosex (I might be a bit biased as I'm helping to organise it!)
I am going to do the Budapest Marathon in October. I have never done this one before, but I am from Budapest and I know that the scenery will be amazing, the fee affordable as well as your whole stay and the terrain mostly flat - good PB potential.
Berlin is a fantastic city, worth spending a weekend, plenty to see the reiechstag, holocaust muesem, tier garten...a good bet is taking a Segway tour!
Rob 22. It's not half as exciting sounding as some as the other suggestions but how about Liverpool on 14th October. I've done the half marathon (that's in March) four times and it is great. Great course, great organisation and nice friendly crowd.
trixeepoo - Jersey. There's a good idea! Only takes 45 mins to fly from Manchester - and 20 into town from the airport when you get there. Is the course hilly? (I have assumed you mean Jersey, Channel Islands ?)
And... sorry but I am going off at a tangent here and straying from marathons (I promise to rein myself in after this) but a great half is the Bay Challenge across Morecambe Bay sands. It is absolutely brilliant.
Oh, and Jersey has a steady climb, but not too steep from 2 miles to around 5 miles then is pretty flat, with a bit of downhill around mile 20... Some of the race is also off road, but the trail is pretty firm....

Loch Ness Marathon on 30th Sept - a few people from my running club have done it last couple of years and always rave about how beautiful it is.
Just noticed that Royal Parks have introduced an ultra marathon (50km) on 7th October.
What's BERLIN like as a place to visit...been to Chicago a couple of times....anything worth seeing in Berlin....
Apparently you get Baxters soup when you cross the finish line too
Amsterdam is an excellent marathon - starts and fineshes in the olympic stadium
Loch Ness is a personal favourite (ran a PB there)
New Forest is worth considering

Big vote for Snowdon. 3rd time this year.
Greensands
Beachy Head
Loch Ness
No experience of any others, mainly 'cause I enjoy Snowdon so much.
Jersey is great, but I may be biased....
I'm off to Budapest this year, but did Liverpool last year and that was brilliant, especially the experience of coming out the tunnel!

UK - New Forest or beachy Head are definitely worth looking at.
Berlin is an epic city, amazing place to visit. Especially if you like a drink or two! Marathon-course is PB-tastic.
