Emmy - i match your mile 19-23 not very inspiring feeling and raise you to a 17 - 26 mile of not feeling very inspiring. BUT i DID feel inspiring from mile 1 - 8. Shame the finish line wasn't in mile 8.75
Emmy - hehe! Ahhhh, with stomach cramp does raise the stakes. I had a seized bottom mile 8 and had to pull my trousers down (HAD TO!) to have the st john's ambulance people massage me. Perhaps we both win the jackpot?!
I think they only take 120,000 entries in the ballot don't they? And more than that number try to get into the ballott?
Nah....charity places finite and they pay for them a good deal more than we do! I blieve there's 170,000 accepted, 50,000 places (All categories) offered and yet year in, year out 12,500 don't get to the start. Heard the same stats from mara organisers in the US about no shows. London would be stuffed if everybody did turn up tho! 3.30 Loch Ness sells out pretty fast and it has a small limited field although there are some charity places there too!
The public ballot entry system for next year’s Virgin London Marathon will open to all applicants on Monday 30th April. The ballot entry system will close when we have received a total of 125,000 applications. Last year the ballot reached this maximum within 24 hours, so get your application in fast.
My daughter and I are going to give the ballot a go this year, even tho the odds are stacked against us - if you don't try, you definitely can't get in!
Had to get it done tonight while at work as nothing keeps me from my bed after a night shift and the ballot will probabaly be close by the time I get up late tomorrow afternoon..
If all else fails I shall go for a club place,,but have to have rejection first.
Just entered and it went very smoothly. My number is in the 107xxx range. I suspect they started at 100,000 so that's around 8000 in an hour and a half.

So.....the 'other marathons' point becomes more pertinent.
@Kaffeeg - I think you'd win.... I call your crap miles from 17-26 with a stomach cramp from mile 5 But you're right- it's harder than you think!
LB's right - the odds in the ballot are so small now - it's worth considering another marathon...
How did you get the 8%? I understood that there were circa 20,000 ballot places and 120,000 or so applicants. Where did my maths go awry?

Anyway, good luck!
Thats how i understood it to be (although never really believed thats what actually happens)
Anyway gotta be in it to win it
Well, am gonna apply next year as got turned down this if I dont get in will do Loch Ness
Just want the challenge of the distance. Done 10 Londons now and to be honest the last 2 miles along the embankment drive me mad with the noise !!
Wont be to long before you will not be able to run it unless your doing it for a charity.
