Anyone thinking about the RunLiverpool Marathon this year might want to sample some underground running by taking on the Tunnel 10K in June. This one travels through the Wallasey Tunnel and presents a good opportunity to experience running through the Mersey Tunnel if you have never done it before.
The Marathon uses the original Birkenhead Tunnel which is a different experience again.

Hi Alan.
I'm in for this one. I did it in 2000 (I think) and it was a great experience.
If it's half as good as the recent Half Marathon that you organised then it will be great
You may have done it through the Queensway Tunnel (Birkenhead). I think it is well appreciated by those who take part and the event has grown from less than 1,000 entries when we brought it back in 2006 to around 3,500 last year. have a look at some of the images in the gallery on www.runliverpool.org.uk
No, it was definately Kingsway - they sent the traffic through one tube and the runners through the other. I think they'd used Queensway the year prior to me doing it.
I took part in it a few times but it was always through the Kingsaway tunnel. Some people have told me they ran through the Queensway tunnel when they did it.
*thinks about whether it would make a good blog*
I would be interested to find out when it was staged in the Birkenhead Tunnel and why it changed to the Wallasey one. Probably easier to close one side of Wallasey.
What you need to do is find some really old farts who ran it then.....
I'm pleased to say the Birkenhead Tunnel was before my time! Does anyone have any recollection of when the race used the Birkenhead Tunnel? Where did it start and where did it finish??
Alan - I've checked my medal and I ran through the 'new' tunnel on May 28th 2000.
The previous year my brother in law ran through the old tunnel - so we know a when, just not a why but I would think it's less impact on traffic to close down one tube rather than an entire tunnel.
I ran it in 2010 and its a great race
Alan - when do the entries close for this?
End of May.
No he didn't!! I'm impressed.
As an outsider from God's own county ( Yorkshire) can Alan explain how one returns to the race start after completing the event - I have a wife to pick up !
irregular.
You'd need to hop the underground from New Brighton to Liverpool.
Thanks Orbutt - how near is this to the finish and is it signposted ?
It's walking distance and signposted.
Thanks again
I want to know what is irregular about Irregular
Got the entries in for this one. Looking forward to it again. Done it in blinding heat, gale force wind and rain last year. Something inbetween would be nice. See what you can do for us Alan.
He's not God. He's an Evertonian....
Im In!!!
I'm following LB to see if the stories are true concerning the implants and her backside!!
Does anyone know the best way to return to Liverpool from New Brighton. Apparently there are only two trains per hour returning - they must be packed!
I am going to park in New Brighton and get the train over to Liverpool before the race. I do live over that side though.
You could jog down to Seacombe after the race and get the ferry.
Chimpy said they will be six carriage trains. I don't know if that will be enough?
Tempted to go with Deva Duck and park up on the Wirral and go the other way to be honest. Seems like a better plan.
We always park on the Wirral side and get the train over to the start, dead easy.
You running this time Puffy?
Entered, had no idea about this until 30 mins ago and then BOOM. Perfect step toward my HM debut, looking forward to this already.
