a cat. A black and white, 5 year old, short haired, rather gorgeous cat. Her owner is shipping back to the States after 4 years in the US Army over here and I couldn't let her be homeless.
Introducing Molly....a very scared little girl right now.
Yes, give her time and she'll soon let you know that she's in charge. SuuKyi was very timid until she discovered the garden. then there was no stopping her.
I picked her up and she sat on my lap for a bit - lots of hand/head bumping, purring and leg kneading. Bit of an explore and now she's on the other side of the bay window sill...
I have, but from kittens and 10 years ago. My ex has a cat that is sort of mine too but he lives with her and always will. I've turned out the lights in the living room, she seems fine, not anxious but is just staring out the window, almost like she's waiting for someone!
Very cute. It is a good idea to give them a safe place to hide in - a box on its side with a rug from the old place in it (your friend may have taken them all!) from which they may then choose to emerge when good and ready.
I had one that spent a week under the bed apart from when I was in it - then she came onto the bed and purred and demanded fuss. It got better after then
A very weird night. At 2am and again at 3am she decided to go exploring, came into my room and went behind my bed onto yet another windowsill. I had to shut her out my bedroom in the end.
Went in the living room this morning...food has been eaten, she's peed and has eaten the treats I left out for her - but couldn't find her anywhere. She had wedged herself in a 5cm space behind the sofa again.
Her previous owner has shipped all his stuff home, currently is living out a suitcase so she has nothing of the old flat to make her feel safer, poor love! Just really want her to be ok and happy and not scared!
Might be worth getting her some feliway spray? However, it was her first night with you, so can only be expected really. Has she got a bed with you at all? It may be she needs a little help working out where she should be sleeping. She'll settle down in a few days.
She looks so much like my small cat, it's uncanny.
If she is still very jumpy in a couple of days I'll get some spray M..ouse, she doesn't have a bed. Apparently she would sleep anywhere at her old house so I'm wondering whether an actual cat bed for her might just make it worse?
So far today we have made progess that I may have just screwed up by hoovering.
She came for a wander round the flat, jumped up onto my knees and had a cuddle. She then managed to get herself wedged behind my bed, covered in dust. Finally got her out and had to hoover up...currently destroying her litter box. Be glad when that has gone!
I adopted a nervous cat 16 months ago. I had to to let Archie go at his own pace, and gradually they come round. No point in trying to hurry them, they just need reassurance that everything is going to be OK. I have spent loads of time sat on stairs, in the kitchen on my knees, haunched under a bed...... just to get him to kow that I was OK, that I was a Friend.
Its Patience more than anything. Archie didnt (and still doesnt) like doorbells, tradesmen, sudden noises, anything that is not quiet. So I try to keep all that to a minimum.
But the rewards are fantastic! Once shes settled in, she will be fine. She sounds as if she is making headway.......
On a more practical note, we inherited my gran's cat when she passed away. He spent about a month (or it certainly felt that long...) living under a bed in the spare room, getting fat as butter because the only way we could encourage him out was with cat treats. Still, once he'd accepted that gran wasn't coming back and that we didn't want to hurt him, he gradually settled down and (after months of persuasion!) accepted cuddles and would sit on our laps.
Aww she looks lovely - she'll get over the squeezing into teeny gaps soon enough!
Only thing to mention is get her insured, our new adoptee had a £400 operation on friday! She's curled up on her bed looking content now though. (hopefully the insurance will cough up!)

Might be worth getting her old owner to donate some unwashed tshirts.
the scent from them might calm her or make good bedding??
I have renamed the furry one. As of today, she is officially known as Coco. She's a complete diva...so Coco seems to fit her nicely. She squeaked at me when I called her the new name - I'll take that as a good sign.

If you've had her purring on your knee already, she'll be just fine

Ah cute. She looks similar to my old cat - white splodge on one side of the nose.
Hopefully she'll settle in soon.
Cat update: still no movement from cat. This could be a long couple of weeks!

Looking forward to when she is more chilled out!

who was purring and kneeding - you or Coco?
Heehee!! Coco is the purring and kneading one! Although I have been known to purr...
I'll see if I can get her to stay still for a bit - or stop hiding. It's all or nothing with her at the moment!
