Morning All,
thinking of doing this in preparation for the Bristol Half Marathon. Has anyone got any experience and/or done before? I guess is not one for PB, but wondered whether it might be to hard...? Any suggestions, welcomed, please.
Thank you very much

Cheddar HM is or ( WAS ) extremely rural after i think a little loop around a housig estate if i remember correctly
it's rolling , undulating in places

This is a new Half and by the looks of things is going to be Very hard.
I think quite a lot of it will be off road on the national trust land.
Sorry - just edited my nickname... Apologies for any confusions

Plinsky / V / Zapo: Yes, it is a new race this year and promises to be a real challenge (we're just not sure whether the 9th September route will be even harder!). We have every kind of terrain (except road) and it will be tough going underfoot and definitely one for off road shoes, especially in the wet. But we have put one thing in your favour by making sure there is more down than up by starting the race at the top of the Gorge and finishing at the bottom
Running Bench: We've now made the race-shirt an option as we appreciate they might not be for everyone, so it is now £20. All runners of the half marathon will receive a medal, memento and goody bag so hopefully that will tempt you in.
Hope to see you all there, let us know if you have any more questions,

i ran the 10k in cheddar the other week (organised by the same guys) and though it is a tough one, you dont have to be mega fit to accomplish the hilly sections.
its a bit slippery in places which forces you to slow down and catch your breath before taking on the next hill, sort of perfect really.
dont expect a PB, but the views are fantastic and its well worth a go. it will make bristol (relativly flat and fast) seem like a afternoon bimble!
I too ran the 10K last week, my first ever running event, and loved it. As David says, the views were amazing, some of the hills slowed most down to a walk due to gradient, but kept it challenging.
I've singed up for the 1/2 and the Marathon already, just hope I can keep up the training to complete the challenge of all three in my first year running
I have signd up for the half next weekend. Do we get numbers ect there or are they being posted ???
I'm in. Following a horribly hilly leg of the CWR last weekend, I seem to be lining up another dose...
Cheddar Gorge will be half-full of water at this rate - aquathon anybody?
Well that was a bit of a joke wasn't it!
Oh yes, you certainly made the right decision. I was walking UP half the hills because they were pretty steep, and then walking DOWN them all because they were really skiddy mud and wet rock. NEver had to do that in a race before, but I was just scared of having a bad fall or twisting an ankle trying to descend. Got round in about 1.40, and I've done 1.20 on a course that wasn't exactly flat - go figure!
I'm afraid I don't know, but the organisers seemed to be confident they'd get the results up on the website quickly.
Just got back from it. It was hard and slow. very steep and slippery. My Garmen said 10.6 miles. Did anyone else find it short. Not that im complaining. Id had enough by te end
My Garmin said 11.32....I loved every minute of it!! bring on the Full Marathon in September
Do you think maybe the Garmin has trouble with elevation, i know i did.
I think Ill give the full marathon a miss. I didnt enjoy it. Just couldent get a pace going.
Good luck to you though
Thank you Getting a pace going was an issue yes, however surely people didnt enter this race thinking it was going to be easy/flat/not muddy? It was all about endurance today, and a test of mental strength definitely. There was one quite precarious bit of very muddy pathway towards the end of the lap and I did nearly fall down the bank which would have been a bad accident....but I didn't, so all is good
I entered expecting maybe steep rocky ascents and trail-running conditions. They didn't try to sell it as a cross-country or fell race, after all. If they'd used something like the "mudrunner oblivion" marketing, we might have been a bit more prepared!
Quite
.To be honest I entered months ago. Thought Cheddar is nice Ill do that. Don't recall anywhere reading it was all cross country. Still very satisfying finishing. Felt it was one medal well earned. Still not convinced about the distance.
Anyone know where, when resaults are published ?
I expect here and tonight:

1:48.13 by a "Cath Stibbs" apparently - results are up.
Feel a little confused! I had it in my head that this was in October! how strange. Was actually just about to register haha! oooppss few months late, I have completed Surrey Slog half and South downs in the mean time! can anyone recommend any other trail HM coming up?
Rachael, there is a Marathon on 9th September in Cheddar, and a Half is running at the same time
