Tis a really good event, did it last year in usual trainers and it was good. I live a few miles away from start so will recce any evidence of need for trail shoes and let you know before Sunday. Ace views, tough going in parts but hardly any tarmac...bring it on
I agree Garry N, ground is rock hard around here and no indication of heavy rain before Sunday..weather forecast looking good for us too, maybe a tad too warm.
I do think that the stop clock the timekeeper had wasn't working cos there's no way i walked the steep bits n dragged my carcass through the last 8km an still beat last years time by nearly 30minutes
Great fun though as ever and its been great to see more an more people do it over the four years i've been running it.
Very hot but fantastic again..Christopher, his timing was spot on so well done buddy on knocking so much time off. TBH I think there are bits where it just aint worth running and killing yourself
i did enjoy it really just a bit harder than i thought but like you im enjoying my few days off before getting ready for this weekends half down south,
I want to enter this race as a marathon training race. Could anyone tell me if the course is definitely fully marked please? I can't read maps you see and I don't want to risk getting lost!
No doubt in answering this - it's probably one of the best marked courses out there. It must take them an age to do it. Loads of tape and arrows of all different sizes.
It is, I've done it the last 2 years. I'd be back but I set myself a few rules this year. Nothing over a half marathon and nothing I've done in the previous year....

First time for me but it reads well!?
But, is it a fell race?! Seems like enough climb for one? But what would I know! Never done a fell race...
Any helpers out there?
Must have been fairly popular for it to get voted '11th best race in the country' by RW magazine?!
2 of my friends have done it before
which is why ive entered cause they said it was well worth it
i'll be somewhere near the back, if not the back marker
but who cares at least im trying it
There's no "hands and knees" climbs, but a lot of off road.
It's two years since I did it but I remember a lot of marshalls and crowd support.
I think you'll all enjoy it.
No chance of losing your way either. It must take the organisers an age to put out so much tape and so many arrows.
Yep its hilly, you'll know you've done it. Just don't run that fast that you don't look around you. Its too nice a race to miss the views
You'll love it
Out in the country - better than tarmac pounding
true and not too far to fall back home after
Briliant! I was just questioning the Trail shoes v Road shoes, er, question!
Will bring the road shoes then? and mebbe the innov8s as well, just in case...
Looking forward to this. Sounds a fairly big turn out (350 last year?) What's the split runners v walkers like? Mostly a running race?

Very special race
Brilliant race!
But well earned couple of days off! Agree completely with the 'walking, not worth running and killing yersel' aspect to a lot of this race.
I changed mindset and really enjoyed the course, and experience. Thought the water stations were great as well!
Next year?
PS I see results are now up, what about photos? Anyone know? There was that bloke atop the wall before the woods taking pics that i saw?
i did enjoy it really just a bit harder than i thought but like you im enjoying my few days off before getting ready for this weekends half down south,
and you never know i might be back next year
Cheers!

Hello all,
Planning on entering this as an Autumn Marathon training run! Not from the area but used to the hills, coming from West Yorkshire!
Looks like a cracking, but challenging race. Any pointers/tips?

Great thanks Garry. I think I'll enter then, sounds like a good 'un!
