After completing 9 marathons and getting my personal best this year in Edinburgh, would really like to try an ultra. I'm thinking of the Rotheram run. Is it ok for first timers? I'm used to running on trails and hills but not real fells.Do I need to navigate? I don't think I can persuade my husband to join me and my navigation skills are rubbish! Any information greatly appreciated. Thanks

Not done the route but it definitely won't be fells. It is only 800m (2400ft) of ascent over 50 miles so relatively flat.
The route is sign-posted and maps and description are available online

the route wasn't signed when I did it back in 2007 / 2008
Thanks Jonny.
Too much water, did you get lost??
no, the strip maps were more than adequate
Doing it myself for the first time this year having planned to enter 2012 but had to change plans. Anyway, recced the first 2 legs and as said before the maps provoded are more than adequate.
