The return of the 'Devils Chimney Chase' for 2012 - a great way to spend a Saturday evening, with a challenging but very friendly, mostly off road run up Leckhampton hill.
BBQ and bar facilities at the race HQ, lets just hope the weather is kind again!

Oh I remember you mentioning this last year. I still love the name.
Well it passes the 'Devils Chimney' rock feature...so is quite apt!
Reviews all very positive as you can see, and it was also featured in RW!
Race website....
can i use spikes on this one due to the monsoon season. bought some today and tested them out but thought some one may complain when i overtake them
Would you like to run the first 1k through residential streets on your hands then?? Spike? Idiot!!
David, as Simon has (tactfully?) said - spikes wouldnt be a good idea. There are some sections through residential streets, plus the one long descent would be horrible in spikes.
THe underfoot conditions are pretty wet at the moment, hopefully it will dry out somewhat over the next couple of days....but trail shoes would be advisable, certainly there are some very muddy sections.
This is a great race with challenging hill climbs, beautiful views at the top and a 'seat of your pants' downhill run to the finish. The witty commentary from the Race Director and the lovely homemade cakes at the finish make it a race to remember - go for it!
I ran the course last week in reasonably grippy Inov-8 trail/off-road shoes. Squelchy in places, but on the top of the hill and through the woods the underfoot conditions are very good. It's a great race by the way - I'll be on the finish line doing the times so if you slip me a £5 I'll make sure you get a PB.
Personnally, I like the wet/muddy conditions, and trail shoes with a decent tread are just the ticket.
Local for sure, but same day as the Pilot Inn 10M. I'll stick to the tarmac, thanks very much.
...you could do both as that one starts at 3 doesnt it?!
As one of the race organisers I have been checking the weather forecast all day and - fingers crossed - it is looking good for decent conditions tomorrow. So come one, come all (you know you want to . . .)
Tomorrow will be my 4th race of the week, I think 2 in one day might finish me off completely...
A huge thank you to a very sporting band of runners who came along and tackled the mudfest that was the 2012 Devil's Chimney Chase in great spirit. Judging by the smiles on your faces as you crossed the finish line you enjoyed the race, despite the abnormal conditions. Please take a moment to rate the event on this website.
Results will be published on www.devilschimneychase.co.uk and www.almostathletes.co.uk shortly.
Many thanks and hope to see you again next year when, with any luck, normal summer conditions will be resumed!
Thanks
Race Director
