  • Ms, I think you and B2B should start your own ‘Barefoot Gym’. I will not set foot inside one of those ‘sweatboxes’ myself (that’s my tightness showing again). We runners belong outdoors, it’s free J Waiting for Frozen to come out as my boy has a 75% discount voucher for his next 5 Blinkbox purchases.

  • JR have to admit I am not keen on the gym, but sometimes as it's close to work it's the only way I can fit in a run at lunchtime, I do like the spin bikes though and a couple of the other bits of equipment including the steam room and pool, but love the idea of a 'Barefoot Gym' or maybe like Mo I will just get an underwater treadmill..........hmmm actually with all the rain lately I guess we have all been underwater running since Christmas image

330 oops jumped in too soon, At least your daughter is paying for the pup so that is good

  • A 'Barefoot Gym' in the middle of a Centre Parks type environment. Strength training, spin classes and saunas surrounded by acres of wooded running and cycling trails. There are thousands of people who pay to go on 'running holidays' and trinaing camps abroad. You could set one up right here in the UK. Now all we need is an eccentric millionaire to give us the dosh image

  • I could be the Scotland branch !!!! Set them off running the West Highland Way !!

  • So were do most ppl run? City's, country etc? That puppy is cute.

  • Along the sea wall in Clacton!!!!

  • I run mostly along the Grand Western Canal towpath, which is a lovely peaceful trail. I also run along the road around the country lanes, very quiet, surrounded by green fields and hardly see another person or car. My wife, on the other hand doesn't feel comfortable along the quiet lanes and I can't blame her really so she runs in town 3 miles away along the brightly lit streets.

  • I run the streets of the small market town I live in, which is on the edge of the forest.

As soon as my mileage has built back up sufficiently I will be back in the aforementioned forest image

You know you have your mojo back when you can't wait to get back out there again.

  • Most of my routes here are along the sea front.

Some are on roads besides fields, hills, with Ben Lommond in the background. After living in London and all that bought ie concrete jungles car fumes, verbal abuse or worse running here is a joy

Dog report - got dog - our Jack Russell had a go at it !! Shes cute not my kind of dog though, just now daughters gonna spoil it, got it in her room but in needs to socialise with the other dogs or as they say ...... there could be trouble ahead

Its her dog she paid for it so what could we do ?

  • 330 - you could have said no!!!

Can't imagine what it must be like to run with Ben Lommond in the background, do you take the high road or do you take the low road??

6 miles including fartlek this morning,   1 warm up and then 5 miles fartlek - felt OK but a bit tired an easy one tomorrow and then a rest day!!!  Yay!!

  • Hey folks! Glad to see everyone going so well!!

Barefoot Gym eh?! Interesting! image I have just started something over on facebook, a group called Monkey Tag Running. The idea is to cut the cost of events by creating your own! image If you want to commemorate the occasion then you pay for your own dog tag, if not, then dont! Its just a way of trying to break the feeling of having to do an "official" race for your run to count. Hopefully make some friends and learn some stuff along the way with like minded people. Not everyone has access to, or wants to be part of a running club but most would still like to run with other people. So anyone looking for a made up event or just some company on a training run should go and have a chat with some of the folks over there and see what you can find image

330 - picture of the new pooch please!!! image

JR - hope you feel better soon that's rubbish timing!!

I might actually get a chance to do some of this running stuff tonight image

  • /members/images/5791/Gallery/Bath_time_!!!.jpg

Grendel - the high and Low Road is at Loch Lommond, yes, so run that sometimes, pic attached

    /members/images/5791/Gallery/1659130_2d9b64a8.jpg

Not a bad place run eh !! but that's a 5 mins drive in car so only do that occasionally. Would love to do the West Highland way as well

  • Lovely pics 330, what a great place to run.image

Another day off work, seriously annoyed and can't see a doc till Friday. Here's hoping I get to cancel the appointment, really missing running (not missing work so much)

  • /members/images/5791/Gallery/Dog.jpg

There you go B2B - the latest addition - Lola the pussell

  • imageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimage sooooooo cute!!!!!!!! image

  • Will NOT be showing this to my kids lol. What a cute dog. image

  • Noodles - I am in the Hertfordshire area, most of my runs are road and trail. Trail as much as I can image

  • 330 - Nice pics!!!!

JR - Sorry to hear you are still laid low. I hope you feel better soon.

Good luck if you get out tonight B2b.

Lisa - Well done on a sunny 7miler.

Usual route tonight, aren't the evenings pulling out nicely?

May head to my local parkrun soon just for a change.

    Feb - 19

    2014 - 35

  • Thanks guys, our Jack Russell is not to happy but will get used to it.

    6.42 first run since Saturday

    Feb - 49.14

    2014 - 162.70

  • Going well now Beachball well done -  Have certainly noticed in the morning it is getting lighter earlier.

Have gone off schedule now,  The schedule said 4 this morning after yesterdays fartlek and 3 tomorrow but as I am looking forward to each rest day so much now ran 6 this morning so I can have tomorrow off - I know that I am 1 mile down but will be looking to do 20 Sunday instead of 18 and will do more than 3 Saturday - will probably do 6 again see how I feel -

Hope you are feeling better JR - and 330 I do envy where you live (no I don't want to buy your house!!)  (although a big lottery win and to be able to give up work may change that) but to be able to live 5 miles or so from Loch Lomond, the West Highland Way (yep I'd love to do that one too)  Have you ever done the train journey along there?

  • I messed up yesterday. image

I was the only one in the office in the afternoon so I didn't have lunch, after the stress of the day I just needed to get out and run.

In, changed and out again, still no food. 7 miles in I was crashing HARD. I stopped to grab some food, put my jacket on and tried to clear my spinning head.

My knee and hamstring both complaining, I was reduced to a long 3 mile walk home.....ooops! image

Ho hum, pain killer day today then out with mummysaurus tonight

    2014 - 82.1

  • Good running peeps. Good to see everyone progressing nicely and.........(drum roll).. Grendel enjoying rest days! Good on you Grendel.

I have managed to get an earlier appointment to see a doctor as i'm fed right up with this. Don't think I will be going back to work this week and I cannot remember the last time I had so much time off work. Sorry to keep moaning.

  • I know!! Who would have thunk! Grendel having a rest and liking it?!! image

  • Jr I'm not sure I could cope with running everyone's milesimage. I like the sound of the 'centre parcs' running holiday although I don't think hubby would approve of me spending money on a holiday for me?

330 I like the look of your running route!

Well I managed to get out for a 4.5mile run today. Don't feel completely back up to scratch but it was definitely an improvement on my recent runs since having the virus!

  • Crossed posts earlier B2B, hope all is well now?

I look forward to any improvement on my recent inactivity Lisa, you'll get back to where you were in no time.

  • Thanks JR, yeah not too bad now. Knee and hamstring still grumpy but not so bad.

I used the 5(ish) k with mummysaurus last night as a recovery run and everything held up really well.

Clearly need to get back to working on my own cadence as much as mummysaurus`seses

    2014 - 85.4

  • Yaaaay Rest day and I didn't get up until 6:30 a lie in!!!!!

5 tomorrow and hopefully a 20 on Sunday - off Swimming tonight (cross trainingimage!!!!)

There is a sports relief mile (6 mile race in March from Clacton Rugby Club, which is about 6 miles from home - am thinking of doing it and running to and from there as a long run)  May do a Park Run at some stage over the next month or so.

  • 330 would love to run with a view like that.......sadly a lot of mine involves car fumes....and your puppy is so cute I hope your dogs make friends soon

Grendel enjoy your day off and your swim, the sports relief run sounds great, let us know if you need some sponsoring

JR hope your feeling better, did you get to the doctors?

Lisa glad your feeling better and getting some miles in.......I also love the idea of a centre parcs kind of running holiday, don't think my OH would mind as long as there is a bar somewhere close by and maybe a room full of xboxes

Had a great run with B2B last night, it was almost still light when we set out, only a few more weeks and we might be able to see our feet as they splash through the mud and puddles image it must of been warmer too because B2B didn't even wear the socks!  I still run slow enough to use snails as pacers but I think I might be getting the hang of short speedier bursts which is all good stuff........feet and ankles feel a bit stiff today so will have to find some exercises to toughen them up.

  • Mummy I am raising sponsorship for the Marathon, I am running for Myaloma UK - To be honest I have been reluctant to ask you guys in here for sponsorship as I don't really know you all - I do put the Justgiving Link on Facebook but even then I find it difficult to really promote it as so many people are asking for money - I am just trying to raise a few quid for Myeloma UK (Bone Cancer) on behalf of my brother in law who was diagnosed with Terminal Bone Cancer just before Christmas.

  • Grendel, I will gladly sponsor you a fiver if you post the link. I will be honest and say I don't sponsor everyone as it's quite difficult with so many people after money. However, I think the circumstances are very sad and you seem like a bloody decent bloke even if we have never met. I have a laminated Park Run barcode in my drawer, it has now sat there for over a year? I WILL get around to running one soon.

MS, I am feeling much better this afternoon. I have a sinus infection but the antibiotics seem to be clicking into gear and this afternoon has seen a rapid improvement. My chest is clear according to the doc so a days rest tomorrow (one extra for you Grendel image) and i'll be heading out for an easy run Sunday. I LOVE my sons xbox!

A little trick to strengthen feet, and especially ankles (one from the fell runners handbook and they have ankles like footballs). While brushing your teeth morning and night close your eyes and balance on one foot for 1 minute (or as long as you can) then switch. Build up to two minutes on each foot. A balance board is also a superb way of strengthening.
