This silly old debate again. The riding in the pavement rule/law is not worth the paper it is written in. The last cop who tried to enforce it (against some children) ended up on the news and had to apologise. Apparently it has to be applied with discretion, which is balderdash.
If children are allowed to ride on the footpath because it is safer then everybody else can too. Obviously the cyclists could be charged with something if they hurt or kill someone due to wreckess speeding but that is a lot less likely than them getting killed by a car.
It is a case of horses for courses... As long as the course is not a pavement.... Oh no wait...

The law is a mess at present, but bring in mobility scooters and it's a free for all
On Saturday I went for a bike ride with my other half (using the roads) and as we were going through the town centre, which I might add is one of these 'shared spaces' where everyone's supposed to give way to everyone and live in harmony...etc. As we approached the roundabout a motorist deliberately steered into my path to stop me passing and I was forced to bunny hop onto the pavement (albeit the edge and no threat to any pedestrians - it's a very wide pavement..) to avoid a collision with his front passenger wing!! Why would someone do this? There was plenty of room for both of us on the road..... Can't understand why someone would be such a bellend!!!!!
For clarity, the length of time I was on the pavement was approx. 30 seconds, until I got past the aforementioned bellend. So, am I in contravention of rule 54 or whatever it is?!!???

If I am, I don't give a f*** - sue me!
There are bellends everywhere. Cars driving/parking in the gutter "cycle lanes" (the term is laughable, they're mostly potholes and drain covers) and cyclists on the pavement, as well as runners who come too fast around blind corners.
There's no excuse for any of it- the answer is to do your level best not to be part of the problem. Don't be a massive bellend like our splendid compadre "Runnin Man"(sic), above. Behaving badly and making exceptionalist claims only perpetuates the problem and makes it a worse environment in which to travel.
I've just been out for a glorious 20 miles on my bike, and less than 100yds of pavement in all that. ( A roads, B roads, Coaches, Bin lorry, loads of grockles. But no pavements)
I use most roads just won't use dodgy congested ones, seen too many people injured where I live. We do have quite a few new cycle tracks alongside though now

Slower than a Lycra-clad biker
More room on the pavement for me then
Yep, as long as you are ok, that's the main thing.....

It's theirs, of course they can use it as they need. So are roads, fields etc, figure of speech but true nonetheless
Now you're getting it
They are probably arrogant tits as well
And I thought you were getting it
Fortunately the law against cycling on pavements is enforced. 7000 fined in one year.
Unfortunately these criminals are only fined ??30 a time. Harsher fines are probably needed.

Indeed!
Not an unusual event unfortunately

But at least Runnin Man will feel safe if he cycles on his pavements
Thank you, Thank you Thank you, someone finally understands it
Nope, I'm sure you realise I'm taking the piss. And you're still talking shite....
Oh make your mind up
What do you do if there are no pavements ?

Pah, cycle tracks are for girlies
