  • OS - well done on PB (if it is one) and you should be on for a good time in London - likewise hopefully me too - but not your pace

  • 54:48 at last night's 10K - very pleased with that given that it's only two and a bit weeks since the marathon. Doing Skye Half Marathon on the 8th June, so I need to do a couple of longer ones before then.

Shielsy - sunshine? Define, please! image

Well done RtG and OS image

Sunshine well and truly gone today image  Went to fetch horse in to dry off and got soaked down to the underwear in the 10 minutes it took to get her - hoping it dries up a bit for running club tonight, or it's going to be pretty miserable.

    Hi, how is everyone today?

Thanks for the compliments for the photo Vixx & Mandie.  I just though that I should try to slap Shane Richie, even if it was only on the hand image

I was just wondering if Shielsy was trying on a pair of trainers in the West Country yesterday? image

I was in the West Country over the weekend as I was visiting my Dad.  I took in Killerton parkrun whilst I was there.  It was unusual for me to have to play "dodge the pat" at the start and then see a marshal shooing away the curious cows as they tried see what the runners were doing.  Are these regular occurances for those of you who regularly take in the parkrun on the Town Moor?  The rest of the route was quite scenic and I enjoyed the run.  You start about 20 feet above where finish so overall it is downhill all around the National Trust Estate at Killerton.

  • Dodging cow pats we definitely have to do! Now and again a cow wanders across the course but they are so used to people they generally take no notice.

  • Vixx - have a look at my fb photo albums - there's one entitled Lochaber 2008 and its all th eofficial race photos that were taken along the route. They don't really do the scenary any justice but they may give you a bit of an idea.

  • Ooooh cool - thank you Mandie image

    Hi Fiona and Bob image

    How is everyone today?

I have finally had some good news and it was so pleasing that I've just had a 3hr nap image (I feel shattered now!)

  • Mandy - looked like a nice day at that Lochaber marathon just looked at your photos - have to say it is starting to tempt me for next year if I don't get into London. Mind you you had another album there marked Manchester Marathon 2012 that brought back bad bad memories.

Vixx - great to hear you had good news don't rest too much you will miss your next marathon

  • I've already decided that if the weather is as bad on Sunday as it has been here today I'm not going! I know that makes me fairweather but I am sure I have a cold building up and Luxembourg is not far away - and that's the one I don't want to miss.

  • Vixx - What chance of good weather at Windermere when rest of country copping it!! That race is hard enough without bad weather

  • Mandie - great photos! It does look nice up there!

    How are you today Bearsted?

  • I know Bear - but you never know!

  • Vixx - yep fine thanks just done a 5 mile tempo run (8:10min/mile) with one long hill in middle of it. Feeling so good at moment I am trying to put alot into the training runs. I am going to do Parkrun on Saturday and see what time I can do (never done a 5K race before) - then got BUPA LOndon 10K on Bank Holiday Monday and then planning to have 3-4 weeks away from running and just do some long hilly walks with OH and put some serious core and leg strength training in. Hopefully I will then both be ready and refreshed to start the training schedule on 1 July for York Marathon in October

  • Cool - sounds like some good running there. I think it's a good idea for the break and getting some hilly walks in. It'll help the leg strength and the core stability work will do wonders image

  • Bob- we did the Killerton parkrun 2 yrs ago.  Its very scenic but muddy (when we did it) and nice cakes afterwards at the National Trust tea room!

Mandie- nice pics of Lochaber although the mountains seem to have a dusting of snow image.

  • Vixx- why else do we run? Apart from guilt free alcohol obviously image

  • OS - there's probably still snow there now! Many moons ago when I was at school our biology field trip went up Glas Maol (one of the munroes in perthshire) and there was still snow at the summit in June.

vixx  - a long nap like that and you'll not sleep tonightimage

Evening Bear - sounds like you have a good plan there.

hello to everyone else - what a foul day it has been.

  • Glad you all like the photos. They brought back some happy memories for me. We had a great couple of family weekends up there. We found a fantastic self catering cottage that we could all stay in, and we lived just like the Waltons, all congregating around the kitchen table for most of the time, just drinking and chatting. Bliss!

OS - the snow on the tops just added to the beauty of the marathon for me. It was a lot warmer for us runners, but not too hot to make it unbearable. Perfect time of the year really.

  • Bear - beware parkrun is an addictive thing!

  • OS - being as I don't drink, it has to be cake or ice cream. Although now, it's to shift some fat and weight. I got my surgery date today image

  • Vixx- I guess that's the good news you posted earlierimage.

Fiona- I know Glas Maol- we got caught in a hailstorm coming off the top 3 summers ago.  We were dressed for it, but our Westie was less appreciative.  In foul weather, he looks at us as if its our fault!  We'd had a morning in sunshine on the other side of Glenshee so it was a bit of a surprise!

  • It is OS - I had a really bad night's sleep and even though I have had 3hrs kip, I am heading back to bed in a bit image

  • OS - I thought you might. My cat always looks at you as if to say "can you turn that weather off please"

vixx - that's excellent news. Is it going to interrupt your marathon plans or is the date working out nicely?

mandie - ~waves~ helllloooo. How are you?

  • Fiona - Nope - date was set for December, and that's what we are sticking to. Being self-employed January is quiet for me and so I can recuperate without worrying about losing business.

It also gives me time to plan ahead for things like Christmas - I can do the present shopping beforehand and get it done. I can have cards written etc. I can give clients notice so that can choose when they want to book in (before or after) and because it's likely to be Feb before going back to work I can rebuild my fitness gradually. Pre-op checks done mid-Nov. She said ideally she'd prefer me to have a BMI of 25 - but looking at the sort of weight I would need to be I can tell her (although she already can see) that is never going to happen!

My cats are weird - they love snow image

  • Great news Vixx and great it fits in well with work. Had bottle of very expensive wine tonight and pizza at friens house (OH in New York with daughter). Out tomorrow night which will be a late one as well with good friend - will include 6 pints of bitter and a good meal and natter. F+Good job doing runs as I would feel guilty otherwise.

  • Morning everyone,

How is everyone, fit and well ? Have trouble getting on here as much as i would like these days, is working for a living lark plays havoc with my socialising !

Was doing some club relays last night, 2 mile legs and proper eyeballs put running, last few races havent exactly gone to plan so last night was a bit of a tester for me.  Wanted to average 6:30 miles or just under and managed to do the 2 miles in 12:20, so much better than i had wanted and felt great to do it, 2nd mile was a killer with a short sharp steep bank for the last 50m or so.

Things looking back on track and 10k next weds and hopefully a 3 year old pb smashed !

also think i may be having a breakdown as im now contemplating doing a half ironman in 2015 to mark my 40th, problem is i hate swimming and im crap at it !

  • mr sj - great running and hope you get that elusive 10K PB
