Mano - just register when it opens but get there quickly - the cheap entries sell out pretty quickly. Normally we all form an orderly queue behind yer_maj and wait our turn
TD - at least they understand the concept of winter tyres on the continent. I looked into getting some during a particularly crap Scottish winter a few years ago and the garage wanted 200 quid just to store my summer tyres - never mind the cost of the winter ones, or the swapping. I decided not to bother.
Here's a thing. I was talking to a friend after a run the other day and the conversation turned to orthotics. I took my shoe off to demonstrate mine, and realised I wasn't wearing them. When I got home, I realised they were in the shoes I wore for my last 20 miler...a month ago. So I've been running without them for a month, including the race. Guess that answers the question of whether I actually need orthotics .
Fustration well and truly vented, although there is still energy for more!!
10 miles done on a hilly route, with the last 5 between 8.29 -8.37mm. Felt hard but manageable........plenty of time!!!
Weedy - I would recommend flying too unless you stay here..........3 flight and lots of £££££££.......
My question of the evening - When in Paris I was looking at shoes with less cushioning than I am presently wearing. The trainers I wore for the marathon didn't have as much as I felt my knees towards the end, but I would like to make the transition .....advice please? I have orthotics and do need them!!
Dannirr - good stuff. Although when I heard about the blood donors, I did wonder if my blood would be much use to anyone immediately after a marathon - wouldn't it be full of all kinds of crap? Would they actually have accepted donations from runners?

That's a good point, although perhaps in an emergency situation any blood is better than no blood....
Such a young kid... he had a gun and ammunition for the shoot-out... another example to the US gun lobby about the dangers of access to weapons surely...??
Unfortunately acts like Boston increase support for the NRA. After 9/11 guns sales increased, as did 'security' devices such as burglar alarms. None of which would stopped either tragedy.
Blood is cleaned but the jest was very symbolic. In France you cannot give blood if you are drug addict, prostitute, homosexual or English*.
Think the marathon blues have finally hit me over the last few days........
Feel good when I am oot running or walking etc but when inside........Hence 10 mile run last night, after walking about 10 miles yesterday, then 40 minute circuit training followed by 6.75 mile run this morning.
Going to get the motorbike oot this afternoon, all being well.......6 months since I was on it......will I ken what to do........

Me too!
DV - when he was 17, in his first marathon, he ran 3:02 over a very hilly course. He's now 21 (next week) and stronger, but is putting in less miles.
I have some very funny images in my head with those two phrases.
Is there a handshake?
I think i've found you Orbs - ive messaged you?
I found someone called Orbutt TheRunner, there cannot be more than one those in the world
you'll have no trouble entering mano...
DV - that's an amazing time. Or was that when he was being chased by the lion?
Maus - any tips on getting ferry to and from Isle of Maus? Having a very rock n roll Friday night here googling ferries and planes.
DLR and RY. Save some money you say? Mmmm.

Good luck to all the VLM'ers this weekend - we'll be pulling for you.
How I'm going to keep up here and on FBook I don't know. I might never get off the couch again.
Flights do look easier and cheaper. £210 to get the car across
I've booked flights. £55 return on Easyjet from Speke airport. Orbutt...take note.

YAY!! They've got one of the phuckers alive!!

Yet... they ban French cheeses.....!!

Have you booked a hotel (Douglas/Ramsay)?

I think we've all had the blues but they will fade. You know where we are if you need a hug
I've had three little runs this week and all I can say is that I'm glad I'm not running VLM or Antwerp tomorrow.
Hug from me Kaz. Not just a girly hug - proper bear hug.
Only 357 days to go...
And you need to get organising the thread trip to Orkney too.
Have fun on the bike.
Christ a thread trip to Orkney......that will take some planning......and I hope you all realise the hassle it is to get here........
Thanks Weedy and Orbutt. And I hope the hell it is like riding a bike or I am in big trouble!
