Mrs O and I visited Kenya a few years back. I was offered 20 cows And a Kenyan Mama for her.

    James,

many years ago while visiting Jerusalem the future MrsD took a camel ride. The camel owner, after she dismounted the camel, asked me how many camels I'd trade for her. Being the jocular type, I answered "20".  "Done" he says, and reaches for her. I laughed, but he did not. In fact, it got quite ugly pretty quickly! MrsD reminds me of that day from Time to time image

On our Honeymoon I was almost arrested in Egypt after almost hitting someone. This guy took a shining to me for my red hair and kept trying to touch me and was offering my husband camels/another wife for me. Hubby just laughed it off and we kept walking but this guy wouldnt let up so after about 10 minutes I took his hand, twisted it behind his back and told him in no uncertain terms that if he touched me again - i'd knock him out.

This got a crowd of people around us and I was 'escorted' to my hotel by the police and told to wear a hat for the next few days.

Emmy, you are a firecracker, a true redhead by nature image. Armed police escort, to protect the locals-from you!

  • E mmyE mmy ✭✭✭

Jimbob - I don't mind being touched by friends/family but random strangers? No way. I said several times to Mr. Emmy that if he didnt do something - i'd take it into my own hands and he didnt believe me. He does now image

The hotel suggested we stay in the hotel for 48 hours and "perhaps madam would like us to call a hairdresser to dye her hair". They were worried about my safety as i offended the honour of an egyptian (apparently not a good thing).

So it's okay if we touch you emmy?  we're not random strangers...

  • E mmyE mmy ✭✭✭

You can touch me anytime RS image

Blimey you lot were busty last night while I had my (now freckly again) nose in my books.

With every day that passes I know less and less.  Off for a wee 10k saunter as a sanity saving tactic...image

I've not had any offers of camels or any other livestock, but some years ago in Oslo I let go of (drunk) Mr Maj's hand to circumnavigate a group of people.  In the nanosecond that he was let loose, he was grabbed by a prostitute and some argy bargy ensued.  He still loves that story, bless him....

    Pardon? Did I miss something?

Emmy - a friend of mine had a red headed child and visited Egypt. His son was followed by the locals who just wanted to touch him. Apparently, and I may well get this wrong, it is written that a senior prophet (no names in case I get it wrong) was supposed to have had red hair.

See - this bloke possibly thought you were a goddess.

  • E mmyE mmy ✭✭✭

Orbutt - That's nice to know. He was just being a tad pervy rather than adoration!

I get quite a lot of issues if I go to Africa/certain countries because it's so 'rare' that everyone wants to see it. I was once in Croatia and a women ran after me with a pair of scissors as she wanted a bit of my hair to show the hairdresser image Suffice to say -I ran as fast as possible in the other direction!

Yer Maj, you can imagine the riot last night if Emmy & RS had posted their comments earlier.

A bloke once said "20 camels and I keep your wife", unfortunately I could only offer him 15 camels.

Seriously, Mrs P is wonderful, she has only one fault and that's her husband but I'm not going to tell her.  Last night she brought the children to see me run the local 10K, I'm out of shape, a quarter of the course was trail and twice we had to climb a steep hill.  Also I had been awake since 3am.  My PB on flat is 49mins, Saturday I managed 59min, last night with all the negatives I finished in 52min. OK I would have been over taken by TJB, Kaz or Yan the dog but the last k I felt I was flying. Hearing "Allez Papa" was a great motivation. Loved it.

Good luck for the exams, anyone who can remember what happened 5 pages back on the forum can easily remember what's in their books.

  • PC - well done, that's a cracking time!  You must be delighted.

Loving the wife swapping stories  image

Dannirr, I've bookmarked your blog and look forward to reading the updates.

DLR, not good, hope it's nothing serious, get it looked at.

It seemed such a good idea a few months ago to arrange for the roof to be redone this week ... the builders seem to spend more time sheltering from the rainstorms than up on the roof   image  I keep checking for drips coming through as all the old tiles are in a smashed heap in the garden.  The new ones are now being taken up on a hoist thing so we're getting there.  Slowly ...

ATM, hope you get the sunshine doon sooth, not much of it up here.

TP - oh golly gosh, what was the link.  I forgot to bookmark it.

pc91 - emmy and I like to KOC it.

I have DOMS in my quads.  I am not impressed.

  • PC -PC - ✭✭✭

Just uploaded my Garmin.  9,2km image.  It's not an error, it was an unofficial course.  It was still fun.

RS - I don't get up at KOC for fun, I was woken up. image Grrr !

  • Yes agreed Yer_Maj, there was something feisty happening in these parts last night. I'm keeping well clear of all that. TP - my impression was they were definitely wife-TRADING stories and there was not a lot of swapping being discussed. It all ends in tears.

Radar Sal, like you, I've been suffering DOMS in my quads too. Still have a little bit left over from the race on Sunday. What I learn from this was that i) I was definitely trying a lot harder than the 'tourist speed' I kidded myself i was running* and ii) my rate of recovery seems to be very low right now. I think this could be stress related. I'm definitely not sleeping very well of late and I guess I should make a point of avoiding any hard training right now (even though my not-yet-healed hamstring tendon still prevents it).

Bad news for my ITLR planning - Phil, the Director of the NGO we are supporting fell over and broke a bone on his foot this week. I am one runner down on my core-team, so everyone else is going to have to contribute a wee bit more!

*I couldn't have been running at tourist speed because my HR data after the race showed that I crossed the finish line using 182 of the 182 heart beats per minute, available to me. I've never hit 100% MHR in a race before. Funny, I didn't feel like I was pushing that hard. Can only conclude that accumulated stress has an unpleasant impact on our bodies.

  • Radar SalRadar Sal ✭✭✭

TD - I don't think any of us belived that 1:25 was tourist speed.image yeah, looked at garmin results and run into work yesterday was about 2 mins faster than when I did it last week so guess that's it. humph, annoying.

Sooo want to join you guys on ITLR but really can't.  ANNOYING having that work and family stuff!  I just wanna run!

TP - cheers for the link, it's all nicely book marked now.

  • I really want to do ITLR too, but short of losing my job I'd better not! image

Suffering today......but not enough to miss KOC circuit training.....image

I have given up on study just now and decided I need to concentrate on sorting things out here, and spending time with the girls before I abandon them for 2 weeks. I will have plenty of time to focus on revision when I leave here! image

  • And TP your workmen are great big softies.......you don't catch any  of the workmen around here sheltering from the rain...........for a  bloody good job or nothing would ever be done!!image

  • I would love to join you all for ITLR but I've used up all my leave for some time image

Back from podiatrist tonight, he says no plantar fascia problem (yay!!!) Is bursitis from fatigue and hopefully a few bits and pieces that'll have me right as rain in no time. But, running to be severely limited for the time being, no basketball, no half mara in July, no trails image Just gentle jogging intervals

And its POURING here this week!

  • Emmy, your hair is pretty luscious, clearly the guy is only human...

Great news JusT (about it not being the dreaded PF). But you don't get away with your comment about the weather. It rains here EVERY weekimage

  • Eggyh73Eggyh73 ✭✭✭

Jus T - Glad the injury isn't PF. Rest up and hopefully you'll be back running injury free soon enough.

DLR - Sorry to hear you've picked up another injury. You must be due a bit of good luck soon.

  • DannirrDannirr ✭✭✭

I had forgotten how punishing 94% humidity is.  I wonder I'd it's better to run I the afternoon when it's hotter, but drier?

I thought I was very well behaved last night despite references being made to nurses uniforms.

Haven't told the wife what time I got in this morning. Not sure she really needs to know this type of information. And if she asks I will simply say it was 'early'.

Big day tomorrow so I can't really repeat the exercise.

  • Yes James. You were very well behaved.

That was very, very naughty of you.

Don't make me put on my school headmistress' outfit.

Actually, DLR, can I have that one back now too?

  • Yay JusT. Great news.

Dan: I can never figure out which is worse. But I'd say drier would be easier. It does mean you'll need more water and electrolytes, though, won't it?

  • DannirrDannirr ✭✭✭

MM - yes, but on today's run (just 6 miles) I lost 2 liters of fluid (by weight!)

And, as expected, I got my New York Marathon Rejection.  No big deal. Although they did offer me a guaranteed place for the lovely sum of $2100.00.  I don't think so.

  • PC - camels bit had me laughing.

Jus T - sounds good news overall image

Danni - two litres in 6 miles? image

Okay, quick question...St John Ambulance does a one-day sports first aid course. Has anyone been on it?
