It's that time of the year again ... this is a nice little village green race, organized by the ever-reliable Reading Roadrunners. It's also within easy cycling distance of Muttley Mansions so it would be rude not to.
I'm in too! Looking forward to it. I've got a cross-country on Guernsey, a local 2.5k fun run with my son and a 10k at Highclere Castle first. And the Swimathon. Maybe I've signed up for a bit too much...
Surrey Runner - I did my 10k PB at this race last year and I'd done VLM only 3 weeks before. Mind you it was a lovely, sunny day last year. This year watch out for the polar bears and icebergs......
That was good. Perfect conditions. Course a little different at the start from what I recall, a little congested but delaying that uphill grind till a mile or two, which is good for warming up the legs. I have no idea why but I did a particularly good time this morning - the whole course seemed less hilly than in past years, or maybe the training is paying off.
I thought this was a good race - mainly downhill too! Not a PB for me, but a decent time of around 47:30. But...erm...what happened to the promised medals if you finished in under 90 minutes? The mug is quite nice but not what I was expecting. But on the whole this gets 10/10 from me - nice route, good atmosphere and friendly encouraging marshals.
You should read the race notes again, Hellywobs. It promises mementos, not medals. I gave my mug to the daughter of the lady who finished just in front of me, she appeared completely underwhelmed
I was grumpy this morning - it was cold and wet and miserable, but it was a decent race. Such a shame for the fair on the green that the weather wasn't better.
I thought there would be medals and I'm sure I saw it in the race literature somewhere - gongs for everyone under 90 minutes. Not a huge deal but still, disappointed.
Helly - I did 47:20 so you and I must have been pretty much side by side. Was it you I chatted to in the finishers' funnel? I was in a BBC vest.
Edit: RW page says memento, Reading RR site says medal. Still pleased I did the race but had it been absolutely pissing down I might not have turned out for a mug
What a lovely friendly race - thoroughly enjoyed it. The website does indeed say there will be a medal, yet the literature that came with the race number said there would be a memento. A mug is rather practical, I think! 10/10 as well from me
I was in a Hart Road Runners t-shirt - I think I was the only HRR there - probably a lot to do with the fact that the Hart Triathlon was also happening today in Fleet and there would have been a lot of HRRs competing or marshaling.
I did this one today - finally I've broken 40mins and mainly from bike fitness really (cyclist pretending to be a runner in prep for triathlon). Fast course but wasn't so sure about running on those wood chips at one point i.e. fast course but probably not THE fastest IMO. Loved the atmosphere with the band, marshalling excellent, good support but pity the weather was not great but at least the rain was far lighter than it was in rainy Bristol when we left home. I will genuinely use the mug with fond memories! Now I just need a fast HM course.
Cracking run there Sprint, you've improved so much these last 2 seasons it's very impressive. I managed 38:56 which is my first time under 39.
The Runners World blurb says mug, so I guess someone forgot to update the RRR website from last year's text. The medals have always been pretty cheap generic ones at this event however, so no big loss (although it'll be difficult to hang a mug from my medal rack).
According to my Garmin got a new pb 38.19. Overall well run but would have liked chips. Does not having chips mean that it won't be on the 'Run Britain' ratings?
According to the RB website any event with a UKA road running licence should be rated. The Shinfield website mentions a UKA certificate. Don't know if they are one and the same.
I think it's UKA measured but not certificated - I assume that there is a difference? The Hook 6 and 10 mile races are not chip-timed but appear in the runbritain results and the same goes for all parkruns of course. Conversely the Yateley 10k series are chip-timed but are run under ARC rules so don't appear.

Always a good event this one, with a nice downwards finish (not exactly downhill, but still feels good.)
3 days to go.. went easy round the Bracknell Half to attack this race. Watch out PB, you're mine.

Should I have got a chip in race pack or is it not chip timed?
No chip, just an old fashioned turn up and run race.
Heh Muttley cheers for that. I certainly do old fashioned

Sprint? Tell me you got a massive pb

Agreed, 10/10 from me too, great fun!
The website said medals and still does!

37.28 - Big new PB, but felt dreadful and my pacing was all over the place.. How did your mara go?

Cheers BOTF.. Might have a rest now after all the races including TVXC - Great work on breaking 39.
Well conditions must have been good for fast running as I got a PB too!!!! 41:30 Happy

When are the offical results likely to be up?
SR Looking at previous years Shinfield 10ks none are listed in Run Britain add event page. So I think you must be right 'no chip time no RB Rating'
According to the RB website any event with a UKA road running licence should be rated. The Shinfield website mentions a UKA certificate. Don't know if they are one and the same.
Hmmmm not sure. Will have to wait for final results and then see.

Hope it is rated as my handicap would drop from 6.3 to 5.4!
