Spelling / Dyslexia

I am very concious of my spelling,

I am little dyslexic image and can get my letters jumbled up, particularly when my heads not in the right place.

I am ok with number 1,2,4,5,8,9 image...See

It is difficult to see the errors, until a revisit, to see what I have written.

So what I do now on this forum is write on a word document and check it a while later to see if it is ok.

It seems to have worked so far.

  • Very annoying that the spellchecker isn't working on this site. My bad spelling is more often just careless typing. I don't always have time to check every word.

  • Good thing about microsoft word, is it corrects most words as you go along, and of course there is the added advantage of spell check.

  • I do normally use spell check on here but as it isn't working i just don't bother at the moment

  • You should try writing on an iPad. image

  • Write your message in e-mail (gmail for me) compose and spellcheck before copy & paste.

My doctor told me that I have dyslexia. Or dyscalculia. I don't remember which, but definitely one of the three.

  • Most web browsers have spellcheck either built in or available as a plugin. There are also websites like this one that you can copy and paste stuff into to spellcheck it.

Why do you care if your spelling isn't perfect? You are an anonymous person on a forum. Who gives a shit?

No he isn't... He's called Rhys or Steve .....   Teehee

He isn't Rhys or Steve...  But after no posts for about 9 years, up to July this year, he's now flooding the fora image

  • Dave EXP and Taxi Driver. Your coming off the subject guys and I am trying to move on.

I have written or responded to a number of very recent threads, since ???, well you know what, which incidentally finished with a apology for my part in it.

Everything I have written since has been factual or knowledge based and to the point. Or written humorously in line with the banter of the thread

I have put the past behind me and hope you can do the same.

Please check my most recent posts following the previous threads and this can be confirmed.

I added this thread, as I am a little Dyslectic and did have grilling in respect to my spelling from a member on this forum, who's username name I have also not mentioned, as I believe, that at the time, it may have been written in anger.

As I have said before, I have watched and not made comments in the past.

But that is going to change and I will continue to make constructive comments. I have learnt a lot in 9 years, since joining this forum, so why not share my knowledge

I have not changed my username and am not trying to hide. I have been transparent

I do not want a repeat of previous episodes, but then that's up to you. image

  • More than happy to move on, but you are going to have to cope with the occasional poke in the ribs !

  • Auto correct is a pain, we have had more than one incident at work with emails about wellies turning semi-pornographic.

  • Not to mention it will not pick up all mistakes if you have actually accidentally spelt a proper word; I recently had an email from my scout leader telling me the scouts had been collecting fur cones for their naturist badge.

OK Ex Spartan...... Banter and a good poke in the ribs as a reminder never hurts. Now I know what I am up against.

I am sure you appreciate a two way street, you handsome man image

  • Dashingly handsome I would say

Mad4morris, my MD sent out a company-wide email telling everyone to, or so he thought, fill their wellies. Would have been so much better if he had said boots....

  • Pop EYE don't worry I'm dyslexic as funk and no-one cares. I sometimes wind them up by delierately mis-spelling words through if that gives you a plan? image The spell checker on here is sh*t and always has been.

  • My OH is also dyslexic but we get around it by me doing all our paperwork and checking his written documents for him - he needs to turn in reports for work, so has me check them first. Don't know if it's common but there seems to be some words or phrases he's ok with and some he  always has trouble with - like Happy Brithday instead of Birthday. Anyway, so far we've got around it always as I said above, by me checking his writing before it gets sent. Perfect partnership - I do all written tasks and he does the practical - I can't do anything helpful around the house like changing a fuse!

  • I normally stumble on key words and phrases there is something that people have called labelling crisis before but sure there is a better word for it. Where you will think one thing and say/write another so you are thinking say bob or carbon but will come out with tom or oxygen. It can be frustrating because you don’t realise you’re doing it half the time and wonder why everyone else is being so thick. Dyslexia is on the autistic scale and all that. image

If it’s any good I normally have a A4 sheet of words I know I have to use every day on my desk to make sure I don’t stumble when I’m doing work. Strangely one of them is Vaseline for this site.

  • Not a bad idea, that. Thanks.
