  • That was to by 'eck!

Dear Solb, do you fancy doing my spring cleaning?

Bear, you had hayfever last year and told me then that you never get it, lol

I'm unsure about that article too.  Once again I feel it is a case of trying to fit all mental illnesses into one category.  I think the correct response depends on the circumstances and severity of the illness.  When I was badly depressed, if someone had said some of the patronising comments that are listed as the 'right' response, I think it would have made me worse.

Whereas sometimes being told to buck your ideas up is the right response - not suggesting that it is a cure for depression, but it might be the right attitude to have towards one specific task that day.

  • I would not expect a polite person to have standard responses to different types of physical disabilities or differences to the , dare I say- norm. So why the author feels the limited list is suitable for mental illness is beyond me and does not sell the article to me.

For a quick example, my colleagues are asking me what work and situations I am comfortable with and trying to understand my abilty. a two way respect is needed for this to work, which I appreciate is a rare thing. I am still technically capable to fulfill my job role, my employer needs to know the new mental capability to deliver  my technical ability. and so do i, this only works with an honest approach by all parties. however this doesn't appear to be addressed by the article.

Evening. I've been playing tennis again this evening. And I had such a fantastic day yesterday on the Orient Express that I'm still buzzing.

I'm not sure abou that article either. A bit patronising I thought. The education needs to be that mental health is an illness in the same way that other health issues such asthma is. If people grasped that there wouldn't be inappropriate responses. You don't get an article on what not to say to someone with asthma. Can you imagine? - "you just need to get out in the fresh air" or "why can't you just breathe normally?"

Those fells look lovely. I used to love fell walking.

  • Oopsie it's kind of late, I'd better get off, I'm meeting the new Clinical Psychologist tomorrow

  • moo is getting an Ed psych.

my new shoes might go for a trip. they are brooks puregrit. can someone post a pic for me. they are in peppermint and chocolate colour

  • mine have a bit more brown (not mud for once) but did very nicely.

  • When does Moo get his specialist?

I liked the clinical psychologist today, she seemed intelligent, she listened to me and had read my notes. She didn't get sickly sweet and sympathetic at me either.

She isn't sure about whether we should work together or not, it's clear to see where the benefits would be and how it could work but it would be at the risk of the progress we've already made. She wants to have 4 or 5 sessions then make her mind up. She really is sitting on the fence rather than just saying it to cover herself.

I rewarded myself for going to the appointment with a 90p Pride coloured bracelet image

PS I look like an alien, promise I'm not just trying to peer round my hand to hit the shutter button image

  • My theory is that Bear had eaten the chocolate off by 'eck's shoes before posting the photo.  Oh no, hang on, that was chocolate colour, not actually made of chocolate.

  • ooh nice twirly thing Solb image

I wish I had choklit image

  • I'm on a diet, no choklit allowed image

  • Ooo but I have just spent a lovely evening with SOLBsis, SOLBsisminimini, SOLDsishubby and SOLBsis-stillinMummy'stummy ... SOLBsismini was in bed not being asleep so I didn't get to see her (cept when I peeked in on her fast asleep ... eventually!)

  • awwww, so sweet solb. i hope solbsisminimale is being good.

my new shoes are very happy. they have been out twice now.

moo was at the hospital today. he has very swollen tonsils. i have to give him extra feeds to make up for whst he isn't drinking. He sees a specialist to check on his development soon, and will then get his Ed Psych. he should get his OT soon.

    Hope everyone is behaving

  • As if I wouldn't behave.image

Good to hear you've put your shoes to good use.  I've had the pleasure of having a new pair of trail shoes that still look new even though they've been worn several times - but thanks to the dry weather haven't got muddy yet.

  • Aww happy shoes and happy byecks sounds pretty good to me image

    Morning LR

I'm feeling much better today, think my energy has returned. I'm tripping over myself with all the things I'd like to do with today image

I had a really lovely impromptu family day yesterday. Popped out for a walk with Mum, Dad and Spotty in the morning then ended up going to a county fair with the walking crew and SOLBsis and the minis. It wasn't perfect but it sort of was too. I was so happy ... and shattered when I got home. SOLBsismini did an enormous bouncy castle type slide, I wanted to go on toooooo

Hoping to take her on a bike ride tomorrow, not sure if SOLBsis and minimini are coming yet. SOLBsis didn't sound hugely keen but we'll see.

WOOOO HOOOOO to feeling happy again image

  • Good stuff, SOLB.  Only just got myself up this morning.  I definitely need an easier few days but I do wonder just how long it would take me to get any energy or enthusiasm back.

  • If I burn myself out it usually takes at least 3, every single one of those days I question whether I could be doing more and if I'm just being lazy but then when it's really over I know it absolutely ... I never learn mind and still beat myself up over the rest days. Hope you are starting to feel better now image

I've had an amazing weekend, but I forgot about the mess I'd left the house in and it was a bit of a shock to come back to it, not helped by the kitchen lampshade having fallen off and smashed while I was away. I think I need to find some superglue and hope I can fix it

  • going for a 10 mile walk on Blackpool beach with the dogs and sister inlaw today. hoping to see my brother and nephews sailing in the sea. sun cream on, shades, and not a care in the world image

  • Oh sounds idyllic Sleepy, made me smile and I'm not even going! image

  • Glad you had fun SCaz but mega ooops to the bombsite. We'll help clean up, virtually of course!!

  • I'm off to see Divine Sossidge today image I might fall asleep on her though having forgotten how to sleep the last few nights.

I'm just wrapping up the birthday presents I couldn't post to her, OCD is being a demanding old toad and trying to stop me giving her the present that's taken aaages to make I don't think I'm winning - though I think it's let me get away with making her a cake which is still pretty impressive with all the contamination crap that circulates through my head.

    Well done Solb.

A nice young man has come over and fixed my bike for me.  I might take it for a test drive tomorrow

  • Hope the day went well SOLB.

I've asked for a change of medication and am now on fluoxetine - having typed that I can see why it's referred to as prozac - that's much easier.  Hoping that might help as the citalopram was certainly getting me nowhere.

I've got really bad hayfever today and it is bringing me down.

  • I'm cross with hayfever too, it's really bad this year. Hope you feel better soon SCaz

I had a really lovely time with Sossidge image

Oh LR I really hope the Prozac works, it's a bit frustrating waiting for them to kick in though isn't it? How are you doing otherwise?
