Hi,
I started running about 2 months ago and it's been very on and off because everytime I run my shins start to hurt after about 20 minutes and I have to walk the rest, it also takes the best part of 4-5 days for my legs to recover enough to run again.
What am I doing wrong? I've got cheap running trainers, could this be the cause? Or am I just so unfit that it's gonna take a while?
HELP please.
Thanks
Dan

1. Get yourself fitted for a proper pair of running shoes.
2. Google "exercises for shin splints".
See how you go from there.
Get some proper shoes, run slower than you think, off road if you can (easier on the joints). Enjoy!
doesn't cadence effect shin splints too?
It may be that you are leaning back when running and need to lean a bit forward. This will help you to run on more of a mid foot rather than your heel.
Do you get lower back pain as well? That is also sign that you are running too upright.
Propper running shoes and running off road also help to avoid shin splints.
You'll be landing on your heel out in front. That'll give you Shin splints
Thanks everyone, I'm off to get some new trainers tomorrow.
It's very rarely the shoes that are the problem -it's how you run. Hope you get sorted
Warm up properly too, I used to have issues but now do various exercises (ankle circles/going onto tip toes etc) and it helped.
I suffered from shin splits for the first couple of months when I started running. I was a rather fat runner and losing weight helped as did running on trails. You could try mixing some non-impact exercise in with your running - 2 mile run, 20 minutes cycling etc.
You should go to a running shop.
You can save a few quid by going to Sports Direct. But you'll probably still get shin splints.
Got me some proper Nike running trainers and been doing my shin splint excercises so fingers crossed.
Thanks all.
