    My Pitch

A full time working mum of two.   Been a fitness fanatic for years with running probably being my weakness (until now).     Taught fitness classes for years and my strength is probably my drive in weight training and determination.  Been running (on and off, around two pregnancies) for about 6 years.  Have ran a 10K in 51 minutes and a half in 2 hours.   I’m not the fastest runner and I’ve got used to people over taking me in the streets (always men it seems) but I will keep going….I’m not a quitter.   Managed to get a place for the London Marathon April 2014 via the All Star and Garter Homes (a military charity) as husband is in the Royal Marines.   Always enjoyed watching the marathon on the side lines (along with a glass of vino) as I’ve dreamt of achieving it myself.   Now it’s my time, my turn.  I would love to finish the marathon with a 4:15, but some days my runs tell me I will finish at 4:30…..4 would be super cool, but that’s unrealistic at this stage.   Been consistently training for 8 weeks now, following Hal Higdon Novice 2 and I can confidently say I am relishing every run, learning each week and progressing nicely. This forum has helped me immensely.  I have a lot of respect for the runners on site and on my long runs I often think about the advice I have received.   To be honest, it’s all I think about, dream about and to the detriment of my family, it’s all I want to talk about.   My strengths are that I do everything to 110%, am focussed, determined, passionate and the marathon will be my greatest victory (apart from my children of course).  My weaknesses are….probably the amount of wine I consume, a few every night and a few more on the weekend (sorry I know, I do intend to cut down!).  My nutrition.  I’m still learning about what to eat and when to eat.  Other weakness is my running speed and also the fact that I can’t imagine running without my motivational music.  I don’t rest enough. Sometimes I weight train in my lunch hour and run in the evening.  I’m a natural worrier, which is why I’m not taking this challenge lying down but my apprehension is also my driver.  My limitations are time. I work full time and have two kids.  Juggling family life around training, takes efficient time management and sometimes it can be very frustrating if I can’t train when I want to.    I make sure my children never lose out because of my running and I have not missed a run so far. This all sounds so serious doesn’t it!  I am bubbly, love a good time and am consistently entertaining everyone and their kids at home.   So without telling you my bra size and body measurements, I think I’ve been as honest as I can.  So any little help I can receive to help me achieve my victory, will be greatly appreciated!

I know PDavey is interested so better tell him he needs to pitch.

    Some interesting ones so far.
  • oooh, Pipski - thats one of my weaknesses too. . .wine! that and not eating correctly.
i tend to cook to please everyone else and neglect myself.

If it was just me i am sure i would eat more healthily! image (not a very good excuse, i am sure there are ways round it)

    Dump your family?

  • Here goes…..

I’m a 45 year old (soon to be 46) female runner. I have been running for 15 years. Took it up initially to lose and control my weight. A couple of years ago started to incorporate some speed sessions and got myself some PB’s. Took last year off from PB chasing to concentrate on more off road running and enjoyment. I was lucky enough to take part in the Terminator, Grizzly and Thames meander Marathon.

My goals for 2014 are a half marathon PB. Have entered Wokingham (Feb 9/2) and Fleet half (16/2). Hoping for PB in Fleet.  Not sure if I could improve my marathon time being two years older now.

Plan to do the Thames Meander in Aug 2014 and have a place for the Royal Parks Ultra Marathon (12/10/14). Also looking to enter North Dorset Village marathon on the (4/5)

My Strengths are I am very committed and love to follow a training plan. In fact I am quite anal about it! I regularly get up during the week at 5am to run. I rarely miss a run.

Weaknesses I don’t do enough quality sessions too many just running for runnings sake miles. Not always brilliant on the nutrition front. Tend to be of the mind-set “Well I have run x amount of miles so I deserve this treat” Downfall tends to be crisps, nuts, cheese and wine.

PB’s are all from 2012 as didn’t do much in way of competitive running this year.

    M 3:53:37

    HM 1:47:22

Tend not to do 5 or 10Ks.

I have always wondered what I could achieve with some one to one coaching. Maybe I am too old now for PBs.

I work full time and have two kids (14 and 18) and a kitten. Oh and a very supportive husband.

Sorry for the cut n paste from last years thread but .... get pitching !!

Would it be frowned upon if I cut an pasted from one of last years winning pitches?

  • Lol!!  I think that would be most enterprising .... although there may be a different panel of judges this year who may have a different view  image

  • So M...eldy. Who are the judges (apart from KK) and who are the 6 people to advise etc..

  • The mentors are revealed when the threads are revealed ... the adjudictators are also not revelaed as they are very easily bought   image

Its a system that has worked so far ... !

  • If it's different adjudicators they might not notice the cut & paste job. I seem to remember the panel doesn't hang round on here because the pitches are anonymised so the selections are just on merit. So if anyone obvious seems conspicuously absent you might want to send them a box of milk tray or something.

  • Lol!!   Liking the tactics    image

*I* do the cut n paste so its probably me you should be bribing ... I can give you a list of likes and dislikes ??

  • Wing of bat and leg of toad?

  • Your days are numbered missy !

  • Everyone's days are numbered. Today is 18/12/2013image

Oh and I forgot to put any times.......

i think I have failed at the first hurdle.

current marathon time 4:36:59 want around 4:20 signed up to Milyon Keynes 5th May and LochNess 28th Sept.

have 3 ultras between them booked. That's it for my 2014.

booktrunk is too modest; she has already come a heck of a long way through sheer determination and persistence.  She is also always ready to help newcomers with encouragement and advice.  I think she'd be a very inspiring candidate for a lot of people.  If only I could vote image.

  • Why can't you vote? Suspiciousimage

  • Thanks LouiseG! The cheque is in the post image

This is looking as dodgy as the Asics voting.
  • ..... because its not put to the vote thats why    image

    Fat old slow

would like to meet miracle worker who can tolerate stroppy bastard

Surely I'm a shoe in now
  • We all need someone worse off than us to make us feel betterimage You got my vote (that I don't have)

  • If I had a vote, I'd vote for you   image

Anyway, where are all these pitches ....

  • I don't think I would get any votesimage

  • Awww I'd vote for..... Actually no, scratch that.. image

  • I might as well throw something out there too image.

my name is Jason and I'm 25 (baby of the bunch so far!!) I started serious running with my local club about 2 years ago. Well serious serious running probably a year. i used to be a 20 a day smoker about 5 years ago and completely quit that and found another addictionimage.

i absolutely love running and everything that comes with the outdoor fitness. I've currently run 2 marathons, one off-road (5:06) and one on road (3:45). They don't fully reflect my current fitness as the off road was not a pleasant experience because I had only covered 10 miles before hand in training. The on road one I did train properly, well....image I covered some miles to be precise.  I set off like a nutter at 3:15 pace and by reasons I don't actually know image The wheels fell/blew/collapsed off at mile 18. Let's just say the last few miles I don't want to re-live again anytime soon. Oh and the temp that day was pretty hot too image.

im currently entered for halstead marathon in may and would love that extra push for crossing the line......Maybe even with a smile.

    current PB's stand at 10k 39:44 10 mile 1:06 half 1:30.

strengths are determination and down right commitment (110%!!!). I absolutely love socialising with other runners who share the passion for running. I'm not afraid to do a hard graft when needs be.

Weaknesses: never know when to stop. I like buying running gear image. I use a lot of emoticons image.

    thanks for reading
