MRI due soon for a recurring and frustrating knee injury, so I guess I'm biking and swimming only until early 2014 (it's only running that really makes it flare up). Strained ligament, so doc thinks, but it's just not clearing up. Grrr.....
For just a second I wondered whether I should withdraw, but screw it, I'll get there as fit as I can be.
I would be interested in riding the course whenever people make it down and as I only live a few miles from the route i can make most weekends. If agnyone needs tents, camping gear or even somewhere to stay just let me know
I'm up for a weekend in Tenby as is a mate so will keep an eye out on here, I did it this year and stayed in a guest house at the rear of the car park that's used for transition and the expo, perfect location but the downside was breakfast at the weekend didn't start until 9am on a weekend. I'm afraid I don't do camping.
thanks for the kind words, i also enjoyed reading some race reports in the other topic, great bunch of people you have here, thats for sure.
i am still undecided, though leaning towards a YES, especially since i read about the possibility of a race transfer if thing dont go as planned/injuries come up.
i will make a decision by the end of the week, hopefully there will be places left...
andras...you probably want to look at Fink and then choose the level which best suits. Depending on your strengths you can add or drop sessions as you see fit. I think everyone is pretty much agreed that you need to up the bike hours on Fink a bit and maybe not do all of the swims..enjoy!
Joddly- great to be at the same event. I might have a go at the Ballbuster in March as never done the spring one before and was not fit enough for this year's winter BB.
Just done a 12 mile run and it hurt!...oh the joys of training
If you Google around the interweb you can find some very helpful spreadsheets with all the Fink plans in, you just enter you times and keep a tally along the way.
if you can't find them, I have the intermediate and competitive plans and am happy to share.
Fink intermediate plan is here, I have the competitive plan on my iMac at home, will upload that later today. Dead easy to use just enter the date of your IM race and the fields are all populated for you.
I found it really useful, all the swims are in there on a tab and it's always nice to remind yourself of how things are going, just look at the volumes and the time you are putting in, you could add a column to collate distances, but I never bothered, I just relied on Training Peaks for that and anyway Fink is all about time rather than distance.
Hi Andras, worth getting the book as soon as possible as it has a lot of good information in it even if I and others don't fully agree with his plans. not enough cycling is the main problem and for me it starts off at too low a level. so at least the intermediate level but with additional cycling particularly for wales.
All the early training is done in Fink zones 1 or 2 (mainly 2) which he defines as Z1 = 65 to 74% of maximum heart rate, z2 = 75 to 85% of Maximum Heart rate.

This is fantastic - welcome to all the old and new names on the list. It's going to be one hell of a weekend!! Slim, great to see you're joining us.
As I've been having a bit of a wobble recently, this could be just what I need to get out training again. So thanks, Team !

Only 15 places left for IMW 2014 now.
Thanks for this Final RV - although I have bought the book, this is a great tool to use to track all the workouts.

Looking forward to tackling the hills again!
And its just sold out
So ironfanny you are doubling up with Lanza and Wales in the same year, same as me?
The Lanza/Wales doublers are a small and distinguished community.
I am indeed! I agree...
I think we may need to start a list of Lanza and Wales for 2014
thanks Final RV, so if i remember correctly some of you recommended the intermediate training rather than the beginner for Wales, am i right?
also, until i get hold of the book, what's the pulse limit for the zones he uses?
All the early training is done in Fink zones 1 or 2 (mainly 2) which he defines as Z1 = 65 to 74% of maximum heart rate, z2 = 75 to 85% of Maximum Heart rate.
