So before Outlaw I'll stick with saying "good luck" rather than "break a leg".
Was supposed to be out with the local cycling club this morning, but during an impromptu 40 mile ride yesterday I've discovered an annoying creaking noise on the bike. Off into the garage now to try to track it down and get it sorted. Hopefully going out once that's done...
I was up and out at 6.15 this morning on the bike, it rained for the first 2 hours, good job I had my rain jacket. managed to ride 55 miles in 3 1/2 hours, avg speed just under 15 mph, knackered now.
Think I've got the bike sorted, but any plans to get out and actually ride it were scuppered upon getting a call from Mixed Grill on her bike trip saying one tyre had blown, the other looked like it was about to blow, and could I please go and pick her up. Several shorter rides during the week planned instead, and get a long one in next weekend.
Made my swim but on the 20 mins bike my back tyre burst. Since I'm special and run tubeless and had just used my spare on the front wheel 2 days earlier because it had worn out; I now had no spare and no chance of getting one. So lots of rushing around and managed to get old worn out one setup on the rear wheel. But that took so long it scuppered my Saturday run.
Sunday 5 mins into flat out in fens and rear tyre is squirting sealant all over me and bike; but some how tyre seems not too have lost too much pressure so thought rude words and carried on. First aid station both tyres noticeably down so borrowed stirrup pump and pumped them up and then got on with it . Lots more rain and just slugged it out , got to 80 miles holiding 15mph average then turned into the headwind all the way home and got the horrible experience of just watching my time slowly slip away, took me 8hrs 24 mins 12 seconds including stops. Moving time 8hrs 13 so still didn't manage it. Learned lots and coped fine with the rain, just need to get fitter and quicker I'm pleased with how I coped and the effort I put in, I can't see how I could have done better with my current fitness. So just the sea swim to go , fingers crossed
Had a rest day yesterday, I will go for a run tonight. I'm off thurs & friday so I am going to get a long bike in, hoping Horse can get the day off to keep me company.
First non-wettie swim done tonight 2250m. It was lovely Top company too, M&M's, Red Stripe and of course MrD. Hoping to get out on the bike tomorrow, although just seen weather may break tomorrow
I ran tonight, just thought I would take it easy as it was 79f so I made sure I took my water bottle with me. so I set off at a steady pace in z2, First mile was 9.31 but well in z2, mile 2, was 9.22, mile 3, 9.11, and mile 4, 8.53 so what was supposed to be an easy run turned out faster than I expected but it felt easy so I'll take that.
Horse has managed to get Friday off work so we will be going on a long ride, we might try for Windermere and get the train back.
I'm kind of bending the rules being here as I'm doing IM Barcelona in October, eek.
But I've kind of found my home on this thread with you lovely lot and don't want leave it. I have tried to do the full at Outlaw in 2013 and was too slow on the bike so very nervous and my times for all 3 phases are still nip n tuck. I do have a coach and I'm doing the training so hopeful that I will make it this time.
I can hold 15mph up to 80 miles regularly on the bike currently so as I say close but not quite close enough. I'm not helped that Barcelona is a 16 hour cut off and it's the bike time they shorten. But then they do that as it's an easy flat course so it should be do able.
Anyway I've got our local clubs DIY half on Saturday to look forwards to, my current plan is survive the swim and run and smash the bike (well smash it for me!) Not the most sensible plan I grant you
I got my morning run in today before the heat kicks in and I'm off to the lake tonight
Oh forgot, I survived my first ever sea swim but only did 400 meters so lots more practise required there, it was a lovely calm evening but I arrived 30mins late due to work and in a complete stress over being late so it wasn't quite the ideal prep! Next week I have permission to leave off early so hoping to be a lot better.
Bike is also having another overhaul, discovered that my sit bones are wider than my saddle, the top reach is still a bit long for a good TT position so new stem ordered and had my cleats repositions so I should be able to put more power down?
Does that half sound like a plan? I really have no idea I just keep moving forwards.
Sounds like you're doing everything right. Persist and I'm sure it will come together. How exciting, wanted to go to Barcelona earlier in the year but health and stuff scuppered it.
Well done everyone on there training in the last few weeks. Outlaw and other events are only round the corner so its taper time for alot of you.
Im finally getting back to training tonight after a depressing 2 weeks of doing nothing. I have got no events planned now for the year after pulling out of outlaw but will keep training from now on throughout the winter in prep for next year. Plus i have put on 6KG in 2 weeks of doing nothing.
I helped out last year Razor and really enjoyed myself and was the reason why i signed up to do the race this year.
Will still pop up and support everyone but ive been super busy last few weeks with work and havent replied to the tread regarding info for OSB so think ive left it too late.
Will just cheer people on the finish line and drink beer
Ali - I appreciate you have a coach so feel free to ignore me. It appears you have no problems with the actual distance But with speed. So if I were you I would drop the distance right back and try and get the speed up. So go out for an hour and try and smash 16 miles, then try 2 hours and so on. I would still do a long ride to keep the endurance up but concentrate on shorter rides to get speedier!
I have run! It's rather hot out and it was a very slow run, but have to start from somewhere. I'm hoping to do Cardiff half in October so need to get back running after spending most of my time riding. Running is a lot harder!
Ali - remember that swimming in the med is nothing like swimming in the sea here, much calmer and warmer. Still salty though
too hot to do anything today
yesterday I went ow swimming - in the wettie because I need to get used to swimming in it for outlaw, so getting into it was hell in the heat but being in the lake was lovely, didn't want to get out!
First run tonight in over a month. Only 2 miles but ran at 10 min miles. Felt pretty good. Still a little pain in the foot but nothing like it used to be so paying the specialist is working
yes steady can do. Ill bring the missus up with me aswell. Will need to sort camping/hotel out though first
There is a large yellow ball in the sky. The sky shows patches of a strange blue colour. There is no life giving water falling from the sky. The air is hot.
Went for a long run this morning, it was very warm and the sun was out so took 2 bottles with me , water in one and high5 in the other.I ran 12.5 miles and felt absolutley great. My first 8 miles were avg 8.58 which was a surprise to me as I didnt think I could keep that pace up for that long.avg pace overall 9.11min/mile. I've shed about 10 lbs in th last 2 months so maybe thats why I'm feeling good.
Mrs D... when are you getting to HPP? We (Horse and Lofty) will be there Friday evening
Thanks Rocco, you and my coach appear to be of the same mind, hence a speedy 1hr bike this morning, except my garmin went flat so no idea how I did. I seem to have hit one of those challenging patches of training but will persevere.

Great job Ali! What was your average for the whole ride?
Rocco 13.4 inc stops 13.7 moving, a lot of work needed. I need to do 112 in 7 or less in October.
Nice work Ali, it will come! What's in October? Am I being stupid
I have run, it was hot. That is all!
well done Ali
I ran too, should have swum tonight but developed a stinking headache at work so stayed home instead
So you need an average of 16mph. Have you done any rides at that speed yet? What is the course like you need to do it on?
You have enough time to improved this, so don't worry
First non-wettie swim done tonight 2250m. It was lovely Top company too, M&M's, Red Stripe and of course MrD. Hoping to get out on the bike tomorrow, although just seen weather may break tomorrow
Rocco... Exciting times
Maths - you did something! That's what matters.
Enjoy your ride Razor!

the only rule is that there are no rules - some pirate thing.
bs come and support with me at Outlaw, as I am not partaking now. Apologies for post but on mobile in Spain.

Camping is dirt cheap and no need to book Will be lots of us there! And best of all right next to HPP
I camped last year. Was great location and good fun with the pirates
I still ain't done no runnin' or nuffin'
