  • oo, that's brilliant. There is no doubt you are in excellent shape! Ian, great work and a solid pb. Have a look on strava, miles 11-13 killed off everyone it seems. It was tough going gradually upwards straight into whay had become a solid headwind…

  • Ian, if i have a bad day and go 10-15 seconds a mile slower than plan and you go better than expected it then is smackdown territory. Wind is sat at 15mph which isnt ideal but not ruinous.  Good luck, OO.  Nice going, SBD. Though your switch to km…

  • ooh, Ian, 1 day in and we have a thread smackdown sunday morning!! Speedy, yes Ashby is a pain in the arse in that respect. Im planning on skipping relays.

  • Solid session, Tommy! David, you'd learn pretty quickly for the next session if you did pace the first 1 or 2 too fast. I'm not sure i'd fancy 14 miles of a track. It is hard enough repeatedly doing the 1.75 mile laps of the racecourse here.

  • Hi Ian, that's a great story. Put's to shame all those people on the London mara facebook page who whinge year on year when they cant get in but refuse to take matters into their own hands and work hard for a GFA. Frankfurt sounds interesting. I re…

  • Muddy for sure. My use and understanding of HR is much less sophisticated than Muddy.  Muddy, ok thanks. See how things pan out in the morning. My last two half maras have been a disaster, the one before that was a pb though.

  • Well done, Jools. Hopefully you can kick on now. That's some manual record keeping, PMJ! Mike, I have tried different methods. My first mara in 2014 I did p and d to 55 miles. It was a big step up and I had a 5 month old and a 3 year old at the ou…

  • ffs, wind forecast for sunday morning now 15/16 mph. Fine eitherside of the race for days, just a 4 hour window of increased wind speed!!!

  • Im assuming thats what you are after? Even with a few quid deluvery this was comparably silly cheap to anywhere else.

  • Mike, your running age is relatively young and your real age isnt so high that youve peaked just yet. My first mara at 38 was 3.18 and my 6th at 42 was 2.59 and i started running with purpose in circa 2013. I still have aspirations of more improveme…

  • what is mp likely to be on sunday?

  • 5 at recovery over lunch and a sports massage tonight. My garmin tells me I am peaking right now, which I guess is appropriate and well timed. Weather still looks reasonable (to me at least!)

  • years ago when i was new to running about 3 times a week on my lunchbreak i would go to tge treadmill and run 5k as fast as i could. no warm, just climb on at level 15 and progress over the ks until i could take no more. I managed sub 19 at my peak …

  • cc2, i bought the drinks in single portions for £2.90, which was some how cheaper thsn the chespest box. They have 80g of carbs so a real carb bomb. i think i paid £32 for 12 gels but might find them in singles.

  • Nicko, i also went out for a few drinks saturday night so i was pleasantly surprised. The guidance for a 3 hour mara is to take 250ml of the drink with breakfast then 250ml about 30 minutes before the start. Then you take a gel every 25 minutes. Yes…

  • That's a solid session, G-dawg. I definitely couldn't do that without some proper mental prep etc. My session went well over lunch. Plan was to not force the reps and just kind of cruise them at a pace that felt like hmp and then progress them to 1…

  • Mace, Muddy is right. i recall you used to do quite a bit of spin. Do you not do that anymore?  Muddy, current forecast on bbc app is 11c, dry, cloudy and 11 mph wind. Personally, in view of the weather ive had in the last year to race in that is a…

  • SBD, Maurten are the energy products used by the elites now. The drink packs in 80g of carbs. Elites have them during the race, but the normal runner doesn't have that option unless you can plan for someone to hand to you at a point. I took a drink …

  • Decent mileage, Alehouse. Andrew, I've learnt that weak glutes and hips are the source of a lot of problems. My little glute activation and strength routine is done on the living room floor is about 7 minutes. A very enjoyable 18 for me sunday. On…
  • In short, no.  Different lengthed runs stress the body in different ways and you are preparing for a marathon so you will need the stress of longer runs. You also need to supplement the longer run with domething in between really so if the long was…
  • Village Bakery half in Wrexham. Dare i say the weather leading into it is very settled!

  • Nice 20, g dawg. Badbark, just take it easy and have that break!  Decent mileage, Jools.  Oo, hard luck on the parkrun. A bad one happens now nd again.  SBD, sounds like a solid effort. Was that mara effort ir did it feel harder? Re my tempo 10…

  • Gul, nice daily and weekly mileage. Is this a hrm strap or optical? If you could manage it, itn might be worth you stopping immediately after a particular mile and counting your own bpm for 30 seconds. The odd thing is, it isn't like it is going te…

  • Yes you'll feel better for maintaining some activity, JGav. I always find my first rep is too fast or too slow, Andrew. 13 yesterday over lunchtime as I was wfh. I had a few Wednesday night and this was a bit of an effort in the end. 4 recovery t…
  • so you would have kept HR below the 170 line in the last 3 miles then?
in Overdone it? Comment by DT19 February 8
  • Muddy, so are you saying that if you did a 10 mile tempo you would expect to be no more tired at mile 10 than you were at mile 3? My average hr was 167 which was in the middle of the 165-170 zone I work them to. My hr for each split went= 155,161,…
