  • Wardi - well done at Barca; can't believe it's four years since you, me and JAP were drinking post PB beers out there.  As it happens, I saw Justin yesterday spectating at mile 12 of the Surrey half.  I'd done a 24 and 5 mile double on Saturday and …

  • TGO - I'll be at the Hampton Court half.  I organise all the pacers, so I'll be at start & finish anyway. Last year I did my 22 on the Saturday then jumped in and joined in pacing 1h30 as an "active recovery" on the Sunday.  May do the same agai…

  • SJ - happy b'day. Been enjoying running in the sun all week; back to UK tomorrow for a first proper long run of the year on Saturday. Was just thinking of the times I've been stopped in the street during a run, and remembered last year when I was …

  • Well done on some some quality long runs from SJ, TR & Jooligan (can't beat a good 10 mile cool down after a long race!!) Joolska - bad luck on the cat; what's the going rate for catsitting?  Reckon I could do that ok  Won't steal his thunde…

  • Padams - brilliant XC win.  A county title is not to be sniffed at, especially as it's open to runners probably 15+ years younger than you. OO - are you doing the Gran Canaria marathon?  Seem to remember you mentioning it a few weeks ago.  We've ju…

  • Never really had to stop and help anyone in major distress.  Though ten years ago, I ran right past a dead body hanging from a tree on my morning run and didn't even notice it .  Luckily Amanda Holden came past a couple of minutes later and dealt …

  • Padams - was thinking of you & press-ups the other day as I was in the same position trying to get them in on Christmas Day after eating my body weight in Quality Street.  Good luck with the final few, but remember, if you stop straight away the…

  • Gobi - good to catch up in Swansea back in the summer. TR - super annual mileage; will all be cashed in around Brighton I suspect. No idea on my totals for this year, but have kept a diet of running once or twice most days and I never skimp on mile…

  • Went and did the same parkrun as six weeks ago when I targeted it as a peak marathon fitness 100% effort and ran it in 17:30.  This time I went out on a rare all dayer yesterday getting through 8 pints and a curry.  Did it a bit hungover therefore t…

  • Great run OO to continue a fine streak - good effort to be hitting the sherry before midday too. What was the course / event like?

  • TR - London (surprisingly) last year. 2.51 - I can be seen on the video running past the guy who was helping the other guy down the Mall   Padams - saw Gold Rush when I was pacing sub 1h30 at Paddock Wood in April.  He's still running well.

  • Padams - no, I kept CW (the Ironman one!) behind me with 90 secs to spare in the end.  Parallel to my 2nd sub 3 back in '06 in New York when I passed Lance Armstrong early and he finished 90 secs later.  Didn't have any doping control then though.

  • TR - it was my fourth best time.  All of the quicker three came in Barcelona.  Also, was my 13th consecutive year of going sub 3 hrs, so a smidge of pressure in that regard as it was the first time, and last opportunity, of 2018.

  • Bit of a schlep getting back home via Madrid, but very enjoyable weekend in the sun. Brief analysis: was my 7th marathon/ultra of 2018 but the third target race of the year; VLM was disastrous despite being in good shape, but badly suffered from he…

  • 02:49:20 for me at Valencia. Probably fair enough so pretty happy. Will add some detail later.  Waiting for flight home now with bit of a hangover.   Really enjoyed the whole weekend:)

  • Great racing ES & Padams (particularly off your traditionally low mileage). Much lower volume weekend here with Valencia on the imminent horizon.  Followed up a solo 1st place at parkrun on Sat (17:39) as part of a 10 miler with, as Joe mention…

  • Jools - oh no, that's a real shame.  Similar happened to me in Barcelona 2014; was all paid up and ready to travel but got injured the week before.  Actually enjoyed watching the race once I'd accepted I couldn't take part.  Marathons are always fun…

  • No idea on annual mileage as I don't wear a watch, record or write it down, but I would guess near to 4000 by year end.  Other than one week of holiday back in May I doubt I've done less than 50 miles in a week.  Always training for the next maratho…

  • OO - are you doing Mont Blanc marathon again next year?  I got a place in the Cross (23k); decided on that rather than the 90k again, as I'd promised the missus we'd do the Duo Etoile pairs race together on the Saturday evening.  Should be a bit of …

  • TT - that was 10 years ago at Gosport; I remember chatting to you at the finish.  Was the first time I broke 80 mins with 78:xx.  Got a soft spot for that race as I got a PB three years before having only run after my nearby golf was called off due …

  • Jooligan - were you the runner with long hair / headband?  I was dawdling along in the final couple of miles and I think you caught up with me at the 25 mile marker (white vest & hat).  It was the only point in the last few miles where I made an…

  • Some great results from yesterday and good to meet a few familiar faces again. Was a bit naive thinking I could run sub 3 without pushing too hard, at the end of an 80+ mile week which included a 21, a 16, two tempos and a hill session.  Finished in…

  • Joolska - about time someone prosecuted a driver for nearly mowing down cyclists & runners.  You must know someone who could help  Recently I was nearly killed by a motorist accelerating to beat a red light.  They misjudged by about 3-4 seconds…

  • SJ - suspect that you, me, TR and TickTock will all be running around 3 hr pace so can make up a bit of a group.  Standard is usually good at Abo with about 70-80 going sub-3, so there will be plenty of company. Last couple of years I've done it as…

  • Inov8 parkclaws were the trainers I had which fell apart after only three wears and went into the bin.  OK, they were three ultras this summer on rough ground, but would have expected a bit more life than that. Inov8 returns people fobbed me off whe…

  • Think I read that VLM is only 3% (or maybe 1%) overseas runners.  If they opened it up a bit more to internationals, the ballot chances would be about 1:100 - there would be a twitter meltdown.  A lot of people I hear saying how unfair the ballot…

  • CD, AlP, CW - all pretty good marathons there; nothing to be disappointed in considering you all admitted to less that perfect build ups.  You're only comparing them to your best times when everything was presumably 100% in your favour.   You can't …

  • LMH - don't enter Boston (US version); that cost me $250 plus flights almost double that.  Will be calling upon distant fringe friends for accomm.  US races are all super expensive apparently; NY is about $350 now I think, though when I last did it …

  • Well done OO.  Great time, and must be good to be a (distant) part of a race that will go down in history. Cartman, must be 2005/2006 since you were on here last.  I've entered Boston (the US one) for next year as it happens.  Figured it's one of t…
