  • Thanks Jooligan and Joe Blogs-BR, just got a bit carried away, I did take the first mile slow in my defence. Also heart rate is based off my Garmin 235 heart rate sensor and I know the wrist based ones are not very accurate. Also, not done a race fo…
  • Hi StevieWh, Ankle all good, only lost 2 sessions in the end, just a niggle that went away. New shoes are great, I am not the lightest so I need the extra cusioning and it is working out well so far. That is a great 5k time, was thinking of doing a…
  • Would be good to hear anyone else doing this race, hope training is going well.
  • Did a 16 mile run today, was supposed to be 12 miles at marathon pace but did the whole lot at what I think I could do if it was today, so managed to do it all at 2:56 mile pace so happy with that at this stage. Had to get new trainers this week, ha…
  • So today I had a 16 mile run with 12 miles at marathon pace. My target marathon time is 2:50 but I actually ran the whole 16 miles at 2:56 pace but felt good, max heart rate was about 160 so did not push really hard. My question is are marathon pace…
  • Had a bad end to last week, had some discomfort just below my left ankle bone and had to bail after 5 miles on my 18 mile run on Sunday. Rested till Friday for a 10 miler and all good, there was a time I would have kept running but did the right thi…
  • StevieWh, you may do this already but I've started half filling bottles, freezing them and add refrigerated water just before the run, keeps it nice and cool for a lot longer. I need to start thinking about refuelling now as will do my first 20 mile…
  • Week 7 nearly done, all going well so far, 18 miles tomorrow and all going well, will take me to 52 miles this week.
  • 2:50 is the target but to be honest, getting to start line without injury will also be an achievement, if I can do that then time should be achievable.
  • What time of the day do you do them? I hate running really early and work on central London so have to get up early Monday so late Sunday not great either
  • I am 44 so it's easier for me. I would like to do 2:50 but never done a marathon before, done a 1:21 half a few years back and a 36 min 10k so should have it in me, just got to stay injury free. Had to join a gym this week, 16 miles on Sun and not l…
  • Hi, was introduced to this thread by HA77, I'm following the up to 55 plan for Abingdon and looking for a good for age time for London next year, more of a 10K racer but up for new challenge. Few weeks in and all good so far, struggling with the hea…
  • StevieWh said: I'm doing Abingdon too! Was hoping there would be a thread. I may possibly be going for a London GFA too. This will be my 2nd marathon after London this year. Was going to be loosely following a P&D plan but I was generously…
  • HA77 said: Come over and join us on the P&D thread. There are a few others doing Abingdon on that thread as well. Hi HA77, I will do that, thanks for heads up
  • Looks like I'm going defer for second year in a row, after 6 weeks rest, went for a run on Monday and my Achilles flared up, not only that but I was also getting discomfort at the top of my hamstring on the same side. Looks like I need a long break …
  • Going to give the treadmill a try tonight, Achilles tendinitis a distant memory now, just the bruised ribs have started to feel less tender over last few days. If I can't run then great, if not then the bike will do. Going to struggle to get up to…
  • Thanks for the suggesion IkleBasielButn, might be a possibility. On another note, great north run ballot opened yesterday if anyone is interested, I'm going to give it a try.
  • Thanks Tom13 and Sesamoid, can't wait to post something positive! Had to go to go to A&E on Wednesday as I was getting spasms in my ribs which were really painful but they did nothing and sent me home. Feeling better today but not sure when I'll…
  • IkleBasielButn, I thought so too on Monday but can move it now the swelling has gone down and does not hurt, just my ribs are a problem now.
  • My achilles tendinitis has now cleared up, managed two runs with no issues then accidental fell down my stairs at home (completely sober) on Sunday, bruised my ribs and my left small toe is black. Hopefully be able to run again the next few days whe…
  • Achillies almost back to normal, been doing a lot of cross training, mostly bike and eliptical trainer. Can't wait to get back to running, hopefully next couple of days crossing fingers. Guess I am starting again on Tuesday too, glad I started the b…
  • orapidrun, I am a Star Wars fan, not including episode 1, 2 or 3, especially looking forward to this after what JJ Abrams did to Start Trek. Happy to wait till after the rush though so don't go posting what happens on here please. Did a lot of glu…
  • My Achilles is feeling much better now, I think a few more days and should be good to go, at least it is a rest day today although might go and do some cross training tonight. Still off the cigarettes, it's been a full week now and would have been a…
  • Sesamoid, unlucky with the cold, hope it stays out of the lungs. What is POSE, do you have any good links? I think my Achilles issue is due to how my glute muscles fire when I run, is it something that could help?
  • orapidrun, good luck on the VLM16 place, I assume you will defer you Manchester place if you get it? Well done Cal Jones, sounds like good progress there. Going back to the yoga, my local gym does body balance which has yoga elements amongst other…
  • Cal Jones, thanks for the info, I have been trying this and also some static streching. Yoga maybe for me, my physio has mentioned a few times so might need to look into this more seriously. Tom13, sound like the IT band was a ticking time bomb, …
  • Thanks Sesamoid, still not smoking on day 4 . Physio is good advice, just finding a good one is the problem, £57 for initial consultation at my local physio so will just rest it for now and see how it goes, might try elliptical trainer instead or bi…
  • My last few runs I've felt mild discomfort in my left heel, not all the time and not after the run, this has been building for a while now and has got progresively worse. Sounds like achillies tendonitis from what I've read, might have to take a few…
  • Thanks Sesamoid, looks to be a few ex smokers on here. Plenty of time to get back into your running, ages yet.
  • 9 miles with 5 miles at 6:10 pace, was supposed to be 4 miles at HM pace but felt really good, looks like giving up smoking has made a difference after 2 days. Today will be 11 miles slowish.
