  • Hey hourglass, how do I find out about the Shifnall Half, it's not listed as far as I can see?
  • The best solution I've found for smelly trainers is to pop them into a carrier bag, tie it up and stick them in the deep freeze for 48 hours. Next time your trainers smell like an exhumed badger, try it!
  • The best advice is to follow the advice of the medics, as not all DVTs are the same, and some are more threatening than others. If they suggest that gentle exercise is good then do it. I was always told not to run, but I did. It was risky, as you in…

  • I bet you burst into a sprint at home time! Just kidding. Have a relaxing weekend, no running. Just chocolates and telly.
  • Hey cheer-up hellen. Just give your legs the rest they need, and before you know it, you'll be doing your long runs again. It makes sense for you to miss the TT, and I'm missing it too. There's loads more races, so it's not the end of the world.
  • "Nay problem Mick" - see I'm getting the hang of this! If you're about to reach your peak, then it's probably a good job I'm not running alongside you! You may decide to blow the 1:55 idea! Good luck next week! I'll keep in touch.
  • I wonder if the organisers let us transfer our numbers. I'm happy to post mine Fre-of-charge to anyone who needs it, providing they tell the organisers of the name change. If someone wants my number, and is prepared to contact the organiser, hit the…
  • Yeah, sorry Mick. It's about 80% certain that I'll miss it. If things change, I'll update the thread. To be honest, I've not felt much discomfort today, but with only one half mara run in the last 3 weeks, that's not much training. Might be pushing …
  • Hey, cheer up! I hurt my hip at Worksop, and I know where and how. There was a section through Clumber park (I think at 11 miles) where the path was heavily cambered. Because I had flu and was off-form, it was enough to injure me. Never had a proble…
  • ..."scenery", sorry. If you want cheering-up flanker, go to the Lochaber forum and delight at the FLM rejectees jumping for joy at the chance to run Lochaber instead. hellen, just a thought... have you given your knees a complete rest? I mean for e…
  • OK then flanker, look forward to seeing you at Lochaber. Same day as London, only with fresh air and better scenary.
  • Hey CD, you seem to strike a good balance between the seriousness of racing and a nice day out, so stick with it. 400-500 miles is reasonable for a pair of trainers. Although I replace my trainers approx 150 miles prior to their theoretical end of …
  • Well done with the PB, St.B. I'm guessing that's for a 10K. I'm not sure how many pairs of trainers he gets through, or indeed, whether there's time to take them off at any point! As for me, I think I'm forced to miss the TT. It's been a week since…
  • Blimey CD, you don't half enter some races! I respect your enthusiasm! Looking at the number of races you've done, and your 2hr half time, have you thought about cutting your teeth on a full marathon yet? Scenic? Flat? Friendly? Nice weekend away? …
  • You'll nail Paris Little Lou. But just a word of warning... if you want to look cool again in your finishing photo, don't partake of the Beaujolais and saucisson while running. Best to stop for a moment, me thinks. Or wear dark colours... Best of l…
  • 2 hours 2 minutes is also a good time. You should be pleased with that. In fact, we all should be pleased that we're not couch potatoes spending every sunday watching that Eastenders double-bill omni thingy. Anyway, didn't we agree that you were an …
  • I'm not sure keeping up will be too difficult for KG, but she'd be most welcome to join "Team 1:55" for the day!
  • Pardon me? Flanker, really! ;-)
  • Blimey, it sounds like your competitive streak is far from small. If you do start feeling better soon, just promise that you won't train yourself to death before the race. There's not time - you'll end up tired and injured (like me!).
  • Hi Ice Queen. It's just as much your thread as anyone else's, welcome!
  • Yeah, I'm up for that Mick. If I run with someone else, then I won't be tempted to hit the gas. Hopefully I'll be fixed by then, well enough to run steady. Thanks matey.

  • Hey KG and St.B, thanks for your kind words. KG, maybe you could push the thoughts of training aside for now and use Keyworth itself as a training run. If I'm recovered in time, I think that's what I'll do. Might think about holding an 8.5 - 9 min p…
  • eeeeek! I might be missing the Turkey Trot. Ran Gosport yesterday, but not properly recovered from injuries. The hip wasn't too bad, but the achilles really played up, esp. after 9 miles. My pace dropped down and I managed a 1:38, just about. Anyway…
  • Just been amusing myself by typing race numbers into the photo website. It wasn't my best race, but I didn't hate it quite as much as implied by my stupid facial expressions. I think the "coolest photo" prize goes to Little Lou, who looks remarkabl…
  • Well, I've not been on here much today. Having a day off to rake 300m2 of gravel off my drive. I'm not sure it's best therapy for an achilles injury, but it's sure been refreshing. Lovely weather! Well done to everyone, Little Lou did great, Rachae…
  • Hello! No worries about the weather then! But.. achilles a killin' !! Strapped up my achilles and started off quite comfortable at 7:11 pace miles 1-3. Then it started to tighten so dropped down to 7:35 pace 4-6, then upped it again 7-9. Then the …
  • Cor, you've not been on here for ages Brian. It's f-f-f-freezing tonight. But I'm reckoning on t-shirt and shorts, expecting a cold start but warm after a mile or two. It's an 11am start, so it shouldn't be as c-c-c-cold as it is tonight! Good luck…
  • Pyramid training, pyramid training. Oh what it must be like to run without agonising pain. Maybe one day, just one day... ... anyway, hopefully I'll be fine for the TT. If not, I'll put the emphasis on the second T and take it slow. And just look l…
  • And I've chosen some nice nail varnish... british racing green! Enjoy your Saturday. See you at the race.
