What gearing have people ridden the Vitruvian with in previous years, I would like to avoid changing my 11-23, 39/53, but a little concerned about the largest of the ripples?
While I kinda know the answer already (not a massive difference), what are the collective thoughts on how much harder it will be with 23&53 vs 25&53?
With 25&53 im struggling quite a bit and down to approx 4mph so im hoping I gan grind over with a 25? This could also be an incentive to train a bit more....
lol, not sure even to post this now, seems stupid! Of course I can get round on 11-23, 39/53.
Yes Mouse you'll love it. The Vitruvian must be the No1 race on the Tri calendar, excellent location and course, 1st class organisation and great support. Its also a pirate Mecca for end of season fun and social.
Well I've paid my money so there's no going back now. Rio - don't be scared of the distance - just think of it as the best possible preparation for ironman in 2009.
Sometimes I panic thinking I'll never last the distance and if I tried to do this tomorrow of course it would be impossible - but with a proper training plan and lots of long runs and bricks it should be absolutely fine. Someone just asked me why we all do this - but I couldn't remember the answer...
Rio - why are we so mean to ourselves. What's wrong with a spa holiday? It sounds like we're in the same boat then (or is that the same pirate ship?). At the moment I am a mediocre runner, swimmer and cylist. My endurance is ok but I'm not at all fast, don't like running in the dark and get scared on the bike going down hill. I'm anticipating around 7 hours for the Vitruvian, and hoping to work hard on my cycling ahead of the full ironman to set a target for that of under 15 hours...
Rio - I've got a few little things in mind - probably a couple of local sprint triathlons and duathlons. I might do the Bath olympic distance tri in July but have been told it's very hilly. I did too many races this year (over 30) and didn't have enough time left for long training days so will have to scale back if I'm going fit everything in. Having said that there are a few long distance bike events (eg whitehorse challenge) which look like fun.
Because my running and swimming are ok the triathlon is really a bike race - so that's where I know I need to put the effort in.
I did Bath sprint and it took you down Dunkerton Hill, up the other side, along a main road, around a roundabout and back down and up again for good measure. Both the sprint and the oly have a reputation for the hills but we'll need the practice! I may see you there (if I can afford it). The swim is lush though, in the Uni 50m pool and they organise it very well so you're not crashing into people. Quite inexpensive as races go too. Highly recommended.
Was going to do Helvellyn, as it's a bit closer to Aberdeen, but I've heard so much praise for the Vit I'm gonna have to enter. In fact, sod it, I'll go and get my credit card.....
Excellent, I'm going to do this I reckon. Really enjoyed it when i did it in 2006. Well organised, kicking music at the start to get you in the mood. Good course. Great first timers HIM or endish of the season event.
As for signing up I reckon you'll be alright after xmas but the sooner the better really given how popular tri is becoming. Also is it the National Champs again? If so it'll fill up quicker I guess.
If I don't do it I'll be there to film the T1 exit. Watching ponces and wannabe ponses trying to mount their bikes with shoes preattached to the pedals was priceless.

Don't forget the booking fee of £1.45 as well
£95?? that's extortionate
but worth every penny I'm sure
I can't believe I'm this nervous about merely declaring an interest. Lord knows what I shall be like when I actually get around to doing it.
Once the Christmas credit card bills are paid, I shall be entering.
New territory for me and aside from the London Fun Run in April, this is my A race for the year.

I am a bit worried about the hills now. What is all this about gearing? I am just hoping I can get off and push if I have to!
Still lots of time to train yet and loads of hills round here for me to practice on.
<gulp>
Well if you are sure??
I still think I am likely to have no legs for the run (shuffle/walk/stumble) though!

Gyraffe we do sound very much on a par. I am just hoping to survive and enjoy? it.
Are you doing any others in the run up?

lol! that's me too.
It is possible to be a sweaty AND the voice of reason.
I have to have short arms though to match my short legs.
