My final pair of New Balance 854s have given up the ghost. Has anybody tried the NB857 which the factory shop are seling for £24.99? Or can anyone else suggest an alternative to the good ol' 854 which I never had any problems with? I'm about 15st and overpronate.

im interested in this too!my 854's are on their last legs.
my story goes like this... i was advised my the saucony chap with the treadmill and camera in my local shop that i needed "this" type of shoe and he advised me that the grid hurricane would do the trick.
jeez....i was injured more than i actually trained. im just looking at them now, and i can see why i got injured so often... these are for overpronators right?
went back to the shop about a year later, explained and the woman sold me new balance 854s which have been fantastic! looking at these now and i can see that i underpronate, however, the shpeel on 857s says they are a "high mileage trainer for the overpronator".
sorry to hijack this thread by the way
857s have been replaced bythe 858 now hence the price drop.
Meant to be more cushioned than 857s - great. Unfortunately the 858 female version is PINK, why? >>spits<<
bex,
i only use the saucony for walking back and forward to my car to go to work now! thats all they are good for IMO!
so are the 857/858s much the same as 854 then
are there any other shoes that are similar to these that me n andrew might want to look at?
854s - awesome shoe - so many complaints at it being discontinued - if it aint broke, don't fix it
I now use the Saucony Omni 6 - great shoe. NB didnt have any that were good for me, and once I've found a shoe that I'm happy with - I'm not experimenting. They were eedjits to replace the 854.
I picked up a pair of 858's in the US recently even the New balance shoe rep stated that NB accepted they had got the shoes wrong since the 854's, which were the last pair of NB's I wore.
855's and 856's the less said the better. I did try the 857's but found my big toe rubbed so since the 854's I have used Asics as my main running shoes but decided to give the 858's a go and so far so good very comfy can feel the extra cushioning compared to the 857's also the fit is very tight and there is no heel movement but I'm only in my first few miles with them, if there is no change I will stick with them as they are about 30% ceaper than the Asics makes
Ta for the advice. All came a bit late in the day though as I bought the 857s, and have been out in them twice. They seem heavier and make my lower calves slightly sore for a while after running. Certainly not the "straight out of the box comfort" of another pair of 854s, but seem Ok. I'll let you know for definite after the Coniston 14 in April.
Cougie - I'll seek out some Saucony Omni 6.
Not good for running in - they feel like a pair of short planks, but great for spin classes !
can anyone recommend non-new-balance shoes that are similar to the 854s please?
not fancying the "Upgraded" versions of these tbh!!!

Bex if you're interested - I've got a pair of size NB 858 size 6. They were recommended by local shop and I tried them on a 5 miler and they ripped my feet to shreds. We could negotiate on a price?
