Have spent all day trying to phone the LM people on the age/qualifying issue but can't get through. Think its a bit rubbish that they aren't clear on the website. I have 3 consecutive rejections but got sub 3:15 at both Abo and Stratford aged 40 and will pass thw illogical 41 this September.
Do I risk going for GFA and abandon the ballot or potentially miss out and go through the ballot system?
Or should I give up and do Stratford again next year instead?
You have qualified for GFA Postie, just print off evidence of your results for now. Your age on the day of the 2010 race counts so ignore the ballot. You need to write to VLM at the GFA address on the website with a copy of said results requesting a GFA entry form. If they are happy with your results you will receive one in the post in the fullness of time.
15 aug helsinki - fast and flat and full of finnish chicks. what's not to love. and it's a saturday so we can go to pub afterwards innit - midnight sun!
And the medals do have pictures of famous helsinki buildings on too - thats a vote winner.
How come theres no blonde chicks on the pictures - just wrinkly old blokes running round ? They've missed a trick there. Unless - cleverly they are appealing to the blonde chick market, and these Finland girls love old wrinkly dudes !?
REFRESHMENT STATIONSThe locations of the stations are marked on the route map. Refreshment stations offer water and Gatorade-sports drink. In some stations you will also be served bananas and salted cucumbers.
Although I wonder whether there is some sort of agenda as regards the geometry of the non-liquid refreshment
I asked this question on another thread and was pointed in this direction but nobody seems to be 100% sure as to what the rules are.
Not sure how the Good for age thing works for London but if I run sub -3:15 on May Day as a 40 year old will that count as a GFA for London next year as I will be 41 in November 2009 or do I need to run a sub -3 to make sure.
Seems to me that your 3:15 will do and stays current for the next two years. Its how old you are on the day of the event that counts and the two year thing means that it is still relevant.
Going back to the original question, a mate of mine did just that - ran sub 3:15 when he was 40 and used it for GFA at FLM for the next two years i.e. when he was 41 & 42. It's your age on the date of FLM that counts, not your age when you run the qualifying time.
The same is true for Boston, as it happens.
Cheers Robert and I just found this post too, so all I have to do on May Day in Belfast is run sub- 3:15. I am aiming for sub-3:10 anyway to beat my PB of 3:11:33 from 2006.

Is London worth it?
Was on target up until about mile 20, and then my legs fell off and I lost 20 mins over the last 6 miles !
It was worth a go anyway !
Popped details in the post.
Cougie aren't there other marathons?
Need to find another mara that I can do well and still do IMCH in July too.
Postie - very true - there are other Marathons - but if I run London - I get to see all my mates - so thats handy too.

I would have thought the salted cucumbers at the refreshment stations would have made it a no brainer
Merely stating whats on the website, Guv
