just got in from my training dugeon, just fitted my gatorskinz, and put the ultra races away to bed, on my winter training bike. Also had to change the back tube on my road bike as the valve was feckered and i could not pump it up without it going flat again, wont be riding her til Mr Sun comes to visit again.
Even fitted a turbo tyre now, so am all set, now where did i leave my cycling legs? infact can i borrow someone elses as mine are always a bit carp!
Will see how the gators go, last puncy was glass.-(
I have the same tyres that popsider uses for winter on my best wheels. My winter tyres are well cheap, have loads of tread, and are so ard that piffling plastic tyre levers are no match for them.
They need about 20% more effort to push along and the extra tread that everyone seems to agree makes no difference throws up fountains of muck as I ride along. (not a friendly group ride tyre. )
I'm looking at mudguards but the tyres are staying as I'm too weak to get them off.
Stump - I bought some Cheap Rubino Pros for Winter, I was going to get the Krylions for my Summer training wheels and keep ProRace for the race wheels.
you shouldn't forget the importance of the inner tube too. I've got Schwalbe lightweight inners on my TT which weight about the same as a condom, but also match a condom in thickness and therefore are a higher risk of popping if something sharp prods through the tyre. A heavyweight inner tube should therefore help keep the "P's" at bay.
Hmmm, coupla thousand metres climb in 110k's ... what's not to like ! I think I foolishly said I'd do the Hell, but having thought about it/sobered up I might reserve judgement to closer to the day ...
All depends what riding you are doing I suppose - I've been using a 23mm Michelin Pro 3 on the front and 25mm Conti Ultra Race on the back just because that's what I had kicking about in the shed.
I have bought a set of gator skins but haven't got round to fitting them - maybe do it just in time for Summer ! Mind you I was out the other week and we were discussing tyres and the guy I was talking to was on gatorskins and punctured whereas my fairly worn race tyres have been pretty good - one flat all winter so far - so who knows.
Gator skins for me, my original pair which i sold with my old bike are 8 years old and still going strong, plus when I put my lighter wheels and skinny tyres on the bike flies!!

Feck, I'm a cheap ass.

They are made by the krauts. Schawlbe.
Tyre geek!
Yep, they are the marathon plus
Pops - can do you a deal on some slightly used Krylions, in red ?
Supposed to be a dryish day tomorrow so might whack on the new rim tape and actually do some riding instead of just talking about it ...
Conti 4 seasons reckoned by a few.
Personally, I use the 32mm semi knobblies on the cross bike if I venture out. Much happier!

Schwalbe Durano Plus for the winter.
but they don't come in pretty colours, which has to be the key criterion for choosing anything to do with the bike!!!!
Vittoria Rubino 3s for me.
