(I'll be waxing before trying that one out again). watch waxing tho -cant it leave you with irritating little ingrowns and things that might be more trouble?
i wouldn't advocate extra layers of padding. More to move around and chafe. But i also think if you're trying to cycle with 2 pairs of shorts and a sanitary pad and still have problems it might have to be a case of htfu. There is a certain amount of discomfort you get used to over time. That and definitely get your saddle position checked and try different saddles.
Mine is getting better and my saddle is seriously evil , thin and non existent , although very pretty and matches the tape of my bars, which is why i have refused to change it - for now.
41 miles done today without so much of the ooooh, wince, eek, and oh no here comes a bumpy bit of road = swerve, oh hec, rise up out of saddle, sit down, oooouuuwwieee, gasp gasp.
Boney bits like Buney = they hurt. But they do seem to be getting better.
Flipper, I wonder how many times you have ridden for two hours or longer - I think until you have a good few of those under your belt it's hard to know what combination of factors will be right for you in the long run (er, ride...). I think this is the general gist of htfu.
However, has anyone suggested tipping the nose of your saddle down very slightly?
I've just got back from a 40 mile bike ride. Last week after my first road bike ride my lady bits were indeed massacred. This week, with a bit more padding I've obviously HTFU cos it doesn't hurt quite so bad. More, just a little sore in the lady garden.
Ah the memories of trying to HTFU! With much perseverence I found this did help to some extent but still major ouchy ouchy's were occurring causing many flinchy flinchys at any lump or bump in the road and also raising oneself out of saddle in order to avoid the above. So in the end I changed from this:
To this:
And all is now well with my lady garden! The saddles look fairly similar, but I can assure you the new one made a huge difference! I was lucky as my local bike shop gave me a demo one to try out before buying and they let me have it for a decent amount of time too. In fact I still haven't managed to buy it from them as they just say to not worry about it! They are a great bike shop.
The reason I didn't get Wife74 one of the Speialised saddles was that it woul dbe me buying it, and I wasn't quite sure what the ettiquete was for asking her how wide her flange was, and I didn't think evans would appreciate me asking for the one 1.5 tongue widths accross.
Ah the memories of early days in the lady garden. These days I think I just stand up a lot more to take the pressure off. 30 miles used to be agony - 60 miles is now a bit uncomfy.
Can we move on to foot pain now - cos that's getting worse and worse.
surviving so far thankfully - must have HTFU. was laughing at my friend the other week as we rented bikes for an afternoon and she was still complaining the next day - the saddles on the bikes were pure luxury in comparison.
from doing long miles in cycling shorts I have now changed to tri shorts and have hardened up..........recovering a lot quicker now and have stuck with the hard mans saddle as no spare cash for a girlie one.........

oh God cycling on a sanitary towel... ow!!!
two things that have helped me not be so sore down there...
Get rid of the sanitary pad, deffo.
Horses for courses

Less is definitely more - tri shorts, short hair, a little chamois cream if you need it and HTFU.
You'll get there.

Erm !
What does HTFU stand for ?
And all this Lady Garden stuff does put me off doing a bit of pruning in my Back Garden this weekend (so to speak)
Harden The F*ck Up.
I.E. just get used to it.
Oh! The lady garden thread...I'd forgotten about this one.
In this weather everything goes numb anyway so not so much of a problem

I need to HTFU!! More rides will see to that. My friend has an 80 mile ride planned for us in May, hopefully I'll have HdTFU by then
