Right you've made my mind up Mr P thanks. I'm going to run the White Peak one, think I will enjoy that one more. After running Beachy it's made me think about the type of races I choose and I will really enjoyed that. I think White Peak will be scenic etc and it's quite close to home too.
I have put the route I measured on a google map and you will see the approximate position of the milemarkers - total distance 26.21875 miles plus 0.001 error factor
Note: after nearly 3 miles (1 mile along the Greenway), leave the Greenway on a track back to Guilden Sutton to complete a 2 mile loop that takes you close to the 5 mile point
Yes, I understand all the gates will be open - seems a really nice course to me and plenty of room for everyone
while i don't think I'd target the race, I like going away for a holiday at the same time, (Paris 2010 for me), I'll defo keep it in mind as a back up, especially as i do my long runs on parts of the course.
I reckon when its all sorted and entries been open for a few weeks i'll enter. Nearly entered last night but thought i's wait to make sure all is well.
Nice idea, should be able to count me in!! I play mostly charty dance music, think along the lines of Scott Mills Floor Fillers on Radio 1!! Nowt TOO heavy!!
I would say it is difficult to find an exciting course which is fairly flat and doesn't involve too many road closures.
When you have to close roads, it is very expensive. I don't know how many people they are expecting but I would not expect a huge number for the first year.
I don't think I will do it as I have entered Paris. However, it is a long way to Paris and if things do go as planned, I might be glad to be able to do another marathon in the spring.
I thik they are limiting the entry to 1000 this year, , the only problem is it's 2 weeks after Chester Half and only 2 weeks before Chester Tri. 3 events in Chester and they are all within a month. brilliant
Read some fairly negative posts on here. Surely a marathon is great for the area?
I know some have alleged that the route is not very exciting but if your up for going for a good time it looks to have PB potential to me. I too run the area regularly i don't think that there will be too many Scallys or dogs interested at that time in the morning.
probably, the timing could be better but i guess if your aiming for the marathon then the half is neither here nor there, may even be great prep.
I know that people from outside the area would probably like the event to go through town but I think this sort of shift to routes that require few road closures will continue. plenty of time to explore the area either side of the 26.2. Personally, i've never managed to see much in a marathon past half way, too busy with the job in hand!!
CT - I do hope this race goes well, my reservations re the width of the track; timing etc are far outweighed by the chance to run a mara in my home town, have a few beers afterwards with my family and friends, and walk home afterwards!
Hi Mr P - Valid Comments there, there will be advance signage & publicity on the route so hopefully all other users on the Greenway will be considerate of the runners. Also going to contact all local cycling groups & clubs to request they keep off the Greenway whilst the marathon is on. Looking forward to welcoming you on the day!
Did look at an number of other routes, but the extent of road closures that would be required meant that they were non-starters. The Greenway is a great tarmac, traffic free route with plenty of opportunities for spectators
This is perfect to get Mr LB out and training again. I've sent him the link now all I have to do is persuade him it's not a "late marathon" as he wanted something a bit earlier.
I suspect the lure of a local marathon where we can all come and cheer will be too much to bear! I'd have done it myself but I've been kidnapped by pirates in yellow lycra and now have to suffer the indignity of a triathlon the week before and I want to concentrate on that....
We need MORE races in the north west and I'm looking forward to this one!
CT This is going to be a brilliant event and I will ride round to cheer on the RW runners on the day - no doubt they will post their target times (and race number) on here. It is a very nice course with an excellent surface - I rode the course again on Thursday and Mr Puffy might notice some mysterious milemarks on the Greenway on his next training run - is there an open invitation to your post race BBQ Mr Puffy? Too old + slow myself to run a marathon these days, have run London(2), Manchester (2) Stockport(2) and Liverpool in the distant past. I would much prefer a marathon on a beautiful greenway than running round city streets

Claire This is how it would probably look...http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3351628
As I said before, it wouldn't be as scenic as an off road mara, I find it pretty dull and featureless.

All looks very interesting, but this now seems to have disappeared from the events listings. Does anyone know why?
Looks like i am mistaken,
