If this is a goer, I will move everything to have some of this. I might need coach Bassos though for the bike training. Soupy, you would be learning from a descent master! Just need to persuade him......
The race hasn't been given the offiical go ahead yet has it? I thought they were still waiting for the issues with the council about roads etc to be sorted. Challenge-henley.com is still for sale
and anyway Henley is a shite place to hold a race (or event for most people, been as they are incable of training properly and racing these things) To many feckin southern pansies
Hi Nicko - has the Henley 10k been going that long?
They wont run the marathon off road will they ? All the continental IM races I've done have been on paths - I wouldnt think that the british weather would go well with an offroad run - itd be a mudbath.
The Thames Path through Henley is a pretty good running surface even if there's been a bit of rain. I reckon the route will go out one side of the town for a few km then back into the town and out the other side for a few km, a bit like the IMA course.
Just for info - I was looking on Tripe Talk and I found the Race Organiser (?) had posted this on their Challenge Henley thread.
Hello all, despite the fact that here at Just Racing we have been really excited about organising a Challenge event and the possibility of delivering this event at Henley on Thames, we have been keeping really quiet about it, as we didn't want to launch an event that we didn't have. The initial report that went in to the local Henley paper was from a presentation that i did to one of the Henley town council committees, which I didn't know would be picked up by the press in the public gallery of 3! Since this meeting we have made significant progress with South Oxfordshire Highways but still need the approval of the plans by both Bucks and Wokingham, as the respective bike and run course would dip in to these areas.
The date we have been working towards is in September (as we have to fit in with both the Henley schedule of events and the Challenge schedule) and we were hoping to launch officially 1 year prior to race date. We are still not in a position to launch and although hopeful, things could still go horribly wrong, despite 8 months of planning.
Sorry about the lack of information, but as soon as we are able to progress (or not) we will make announcements all over the world.
Just Racing are the guys who organise the Beaver and a few other events so they have a useful pedigree so with Challenge's help it could be a good event
but JR have to cough up £60K UP FRONT to Challenge for the privelege of using the brand so they'd better be confident of getting a payback on the event! if it does go live it will be interesting to see what the entry costs are compared to Outlaw who don't have the up front charges - the entry fee could be a deal breaker for many
We have been very busy trying to continually move the Challenge event forward in Henley and today we have had a significant breakthrough.
Our proposed bike route (2 laps totalling 180k) and our traffic management plans have been received positively by the relevant authorities and we are now confident that we will be able to deliver an amazing bike course in the stunning Chiltern hills. As you may have gathered it will include hills and will be on a closed circuit for the maximum safety of the cyclists.
Whilst we are delighted with this progress, our remaining hurdle is to gain final approval from the relevant authorities for the run course. Until we have this approved, we still do not have an event, although, we are definately making steps in the right direction.
We are still hoping to launch in mid september and it is hoped that the event would take place on the 18th september 2011 (please note that this is still not confirmed though).
Thanks again for showing an interest in this event and we will endeavour to keep you all updated with our progress.
