  • I may be able to do the 18th for shouting and drinking too.
  • and cake? There has to be cake....
  • OK, executive decision then, let’s go for the 18th !  Here’s a rough plan, feel free to disagree image

    The Ball Bruiser
    - Duathlon – 1 x run lap, 3 x ride lap, 1 x ride lap.
    - Clockwise laps. Run lap is 7.35 miles, map here http://www.richmondparklondon.co.uk/running
    - MTB or road bike/course, your choice, but the path is shared bike/pedestrian path with pedestrian priority.
    - Start/Finish at Pembroke Lodge, between Richmond and Ham Gates http://www.pembroke-lodge.co.uk/images/map.gif
    - Relay and/or part distance gaylords welcome

    Facilities at transition
    - Free car parking, toilets, outdoor café and posh indoor café
    - Ditchy’s cakes
    - Fresh venison roadkill
    - Official Pirate Aid Station Sherpas/bike guardians/cake dispensers, as featured at The Outlaw
    - A couple of discrete Pirate flags – who’s got them ?

The Green Man at Putney Heath is good, most of the others closer to the park are a bit poncy for a bunch of sweaty aferletes  http://www.greenmanputney.co.uk/

    Starters
    Kanga
    Melds 18th poss
    Ditchy I think
    OC/SB
    Ferret

    Soupy ? , Saffers ?, BHFlyer ?, Funkin ?, Dustboy ?

Will need to juggle family, but maybe they could go to the playground for the 2 hours it will take me!image

Any executive decisions on a start time. Will prob need to be antisocially early to finish pre lunch?

    8.30am start?image

  • Would it be easier to do the ride anti-clockwise on the road instead?

Start time, knew I forgot something! image I reckon on a good day, with a bloody good tailwind and jet propulsion, I could get around in about 3:30, so more likely 4:00 given transition and the usual casual training approach. An 08:30 start would have us at the pub about 13:00 for lunch, so maybe an 0800 start for the very few peeps who might be slower than me ? Earlier the better for car parking as well.

Yes in terms of always turning left at the roundabouts, but went with clockwise so we're leaving/joining the traffic without having to turn across it. Health and safety and all that carp. Also means we go up the short nasty bit imageNot that there are any hills in RP of course, that's just  a vicious rumour put about to put noobs off riding there and cluttering up the place.

  • I think the start time may well render me a non starter, a fair way to travel and I have a night shift to finish the day off with!
  • 08:00 !!!!
we have to cycle 40 mins to get to a train station in central london, then 30 mins to richmond..... then bike to rihmond park...

I don't fancy leaving the house at 6 in the morning..

how about a 9 ish start
  • Looks good for me at the moment, subject to work screwing the pooch at the last minute.

Is it decided on a road bike or MTB yet.

Anytime from 9am onwards would suit TBH

  • I'm easy for a later start, it's only a few miles from home. Suppose we can just have post bash beer, don't necessarily need to do lunch afterwards if that suits most people. Let's say 9:30-10 for now and see how many more we gain/lose with a later start.

FF - My MTB is complete and ancient crap, much like it's rider, so I'll be on the roadie. Suspect most people will be, we can always do an MTB version in Jan/Feb when all the bling bikes are tucked away in cotton wool until the summer ?
  • I quite fancy this but have no idea how to get there from Maidstone...

anyone got any idea...do I have to drive or can I do public transport???

  • Being so near Christmas, I'd be surprised if the pubs stop selling food.
  • Assuming I can make it I have the choice of 4 bikes and will bring the cleanest  image

Where does your train come into? It's only a little ride from most major train stations to the park

You could train via Waterloo East, but be lot of faffing if you have the option to drive. Can go M25/A243/A3 or M20/A205 in about 1:20. TommyGun lives kent way, if you can sweet talk him into car sharing ?
  • Thanks - I'll probably drive then.

     I'll speak to Tommygun....

  • According to the Green Man website food is served from 12.00 to 22.00 so loads of time.  image
  •  Just moving myself from the lurkers list,  seeing as Mrs J is going out in the evening on the 18th and leaving me to celebrate a b'day by myself I might as well come out for some exercise to work up a thirst!

I'm running a lap of Richmond today to see how I feel at the end.  Running not my strong point at the moment but I admit the "flat" bike course is tempting.  Working on OH for T duty as well so will see.  Should be a good day out whatever. image
  • Soupy admits RP is flat. Excellent!

  • I am still lurking for cake duty but an 8am start is not good for me for where I have to come from so prob best to count me out
