OOimageimage Double everything today, wow what a great time. You just keep getting better. Excellent news re junior too. She is edging closer to that sub 20. Do you think she would have a better chance of breaking it if someone paced her, that someone being her very fast Dad!

Right, I'm off out for a run in the sun.image

Great parkrun time OO, you're well suited to that distance. I'd love to dip under 18 mins.

Good to see SBD dropping by  . . . .
Nice mile (just about) reps, Fishy
OO - strength to strength, my man- excellent work ! Congrats to OO jnr also (my daughter is now 22 so is happy to run with me . . - maybe it's because she can take it easy at my pace . . . . .)
20 d&d this morn - lovely when I set out at 6:45, but had a deluge about an hour in . . .

OO, nice run there, plenty of speed. What are the summer plans? Mine are to hit very short distance up tp 10k as hard as I can and then start to look at 10 miles and HM in the autumn and see if the speed can carry me through.

00-51 - I'm envious of your amazing speed. Great times for you and J00-51.

    GM - Sun? Rain!

Birch - nice early morning 20 miler...brilliant time of the day.

PMJ - Some speedy summer racing then. I've often been advised to concentrate on getting my 10k and 5k times down, as a way of improving my longer distance times. But I never race 10k on the road...and am too old to start now!

OO - Ah well probably just as well as it sounds like she has some talent there.

Fishy1 - Rain! Not here my friend, it was 27c yesterday but dropped to about 23c today but feels warmer when running.

Just back from an 8 miler along the coastal promenade, very warm out and the tourists are topless in the sea! Sadly they're all rotund blokes. Target was 60 mins and came in at 59:40, so not too bad pacing with a 1 mile hill section thrown in to try strengthen the legs.

This week has been a bit better in terms of mileage so far with, 2x5k, 1x7k, 1x10k and 12.8k so a 10.2 will take me up to the dizzy heights of a 50km week. That would be my biggest week since mid February! If I can maintain that sort of distance for a couple of weeks and then build I should be seeing some improvements in fitness levels.

GM – Nice negative split 10k

PMJ – Excellent mile running and good luck in your 10k

Poacher – Personally I’d try flat out for London and Comrades. Then again people have been calling me Madbark recently.image

Gul – Good mileage considering you burn up

OO – Fantastic Parkrun PB! And great running from Junior too

    Birch – Great LSR

I ran my 32nd Parkrun this morning. I’ve finished second 9 out the last 13 times but finally manage to win one. Thanks to the heavy rain nobody fast showed. Yippee!image This time next week I’ll be well into a race 20 times longer. Eek! image

...and having finally worked out how to get photos up, my summer of marathon training will be punctuated by some trail runs like last week's Staveley Trail.

Just getting to the top of 'the sting in the tail' in 3rd place, which I managed to hold on to, mainly because I've always been able run down steep hills very quickly. Pity it doesn't translate into flat speed...

Interesting to hear the different views on having a go at comrades (or ultras or IMs in general). Personally, I think the experience of dragging yourself through a seemingly impossible task when you feel physically and mentally broken and you still have 20 or more miles left to do is one of life's great rites of passage. Comrades sounds wonderful and I'd love to do it. Great report Poacher. .......Hero.

    Stellar time OO! image

A great time was had in the capital. We walked past Chandos several times, each time pointing out to the mrs that that's where the thread VLMers meet for drinks. She was obviously impressed. We went to see the Book of Mormon whilst slightly (i.e. heavily) inebriated with champagne. Highly recommended.

Other news - I'm buying a new bike! Small mortgage and lots of brownie points cashed in for a Cervelo P3 Dura ace bike - can't wait! It could save me a whole 5 minutes at my next IM race. Bargain image

Moof - Nice mileage. Furthest I've ever managed is 50 odd in a week.

BB - Congrats on your maiden parkrun victory! Which one is your regular one? Still waiting for it to become a reality here.

SJ - You sound in fine fettle, no idea what a Cervelo P3 Dura ace bike is but sounds quite swish.

Jools - The Comrades seed sounds well planted. Looks like there could be a few thread members out there in 2015.

Fishy - That's a great Pic but looks very difficult.

Gul - Hopefully you've turned the corner now. Coincidently, you're possible Autumn target marathon is the same date as mine.

Jersey half marathon tomorrow and I will be watching from the beach wall whilst eating ice cream with my son. Glad I opted out now but will be interesting to see if a fellow Jsy runner has a crack at sub 70. Forecast is light wind but will be warm.image

    Hello everyone,

Back from a 5 week trip to Africa and almost never got back on the plane with the extra stone I'm carrying. image

Not much running done in between 14 hour shifts, so came back in a bit of a state running wise!

thought about doing a marathon tomorrow when I got back but after a very hard 12 miler decided on saving my health.

Just going to start a 16 week shedule on Monday for Lochness marathon, have a few  marathons (3) and and a few triathlons (2) as warm up races, which I will do at an easy pace! image

Are we all heading for great times in the Autumn?? I'm going for my 3:05 with hope!

    Glad to be back!

GM - Well the sun didn't arrive until this evening, so I had an afternoon's wet and invigorating bike riding - have fun on the beach tomorrow.

SJ - Be careful posting that link! My trusty steed is a much more humble Dawes Galaxy, just right for keeping the spray at bay - I'll watch out for you flying by on your Sexy Cervelo!

Rich26 - Nothing like an autumn marathon for summer motivation

Sounds like a great trip to the smoke SJ, Chandos seems like a distant memory now.

After the Blaydon race on Monday I've got nothing booked until late July PMJ- don't think I'll be racing much this year with all mid week travel, probably just parkruns and my few  favourites near the end of the season. Whatever else happens though 2014 is already a year of 2 PB's at 5k and marathon image

Congratulations on the pb, OO - particularly as it was unexpected.  And very impressive AG, too.

3000 for me at the Midland League yesterday and managed a season's best (10.58) by 1s.  Was a bit in no-man's land after a girl from Charnword shot off into the distance and, once I'd caught the one other girl ahead of me, I didn't really have anyone to chase down.  Still, it was more evenly paced than last month's 3k (and maintains the sub 11 streak) so hopefully in a month's time I'll be back into track mode and able to push a bit more.

3000m for me too yesterday, but mine was a bit of a disaster. I tried to go with the lead pack, which contained a girl I was beating last year in 10.5x. They just kept ramping it up and I ended up in no-man's land dying a slow death. I didn't lose any places but trailed in in a second slowest ever time of 11.07. The girl I was beating last year ran 10.32. No wonder I couldn't keep up! The first mile matched my 1 mile PB time, so it's hardly a shock that I died a death! For this afternoon's 5000 I will attempt to exercise more restraint!

14 miles yesterday very steady in 2 hours and the legs felt very good.

75 hilly lakeland miles on the bike in 4.5 hrs early doors today in glorious sunshine followed by a whole mile on foot at 8mm. Simmering along nicely. image

Nice training SJ! That bike looks a) very expensive and b) bl00dy nice!!

Watched the finishers of the Jsy half coming in today and they all looked as if they were suffering. Was a bit to warm for me to be racing that distance. My mate fell short in his sub 70 attempt but 71 mins is not to be sniffed at. Defo right decision not to race today. Wonder how all the other races got on today?

Jools - You have a habit of churning out good times, well done.

SG - Unlucky there but least you went for it, it sounded like a tough race. 10:32 sounds pretty quick to me, wonder if she pb'd.  Hope the 5,000 goes well.

Rich - Welcome back, let's hope so!!

Wargrave 10k for me and really followed much the same pattern as Staines 10k with the emphasis on position over time. It is a Datchet Dashers club champs race and quickly scan the start sheets and work out I am 4th fastest on paper and 4 for the team race so looks like the plan is to go round and come home 4th for good champs points and a team prize. Race starts with 400m round a playing field (hardly ideal underfoot) and then out for a lap of the town to make up distance and then onto the course for real at 1k. The heat is not too bad but definitely a factor and I settle down behind 2 packs of runners. At about 2k we start climbing and a bunch of 3 splinter off the back of the pack in front including a young, fast Datchet guy. As we go up, he goes backward and I am alongside him but his body language is just so negative that I don't even encourage him to hang on. The course goes upwards steadily to 5k and I seem to be making ground on the other two (both heavily set tri-type guys who were probably finding the hills and heat harder than me) so I set about to pick them off and by 5k I had got them both.

The downhill section starts and I assume they were coming back as I could hear runners behind me and three runners pass in turn but not the two tri guys. The last two by were not making great progress so I held on and started to pull back a bit on the one in front up to about 8k when I started to hear "first lady" and I thought that it would be prudent to push for home and put some runners between me and her so I took the guy in front and pushed for home and it ended up that way.

38:23 on the Garmin and 38:07 last year on the same course. Last few miles this year were much better (last year was a death march round the field at 6:16 pace cf 6:04 this year) so pluses and minuses. I didn't run yesterday but had an active day after Friday's race and legs felt OK for it.

SJ - Cervelo are Italian? I had no idea.  Anyway, having spent this morning chasing a guy on a Cervelo round the countryside I can certify that they are quick!  I sat on my Frankenbike (assorted 2nd hand bits, built by me, so don't you bloody dare say anything bad about it) and made liberal use of his slipstream - 110km in 3:3x for some achilles-friendly fat burning image

Spot on - sometimes it's good to blow things up, roll the hand grenade, and take on a challenge which is going to stretch...maybe something with a real possibility of failure.  Posters here are doing this right now, whether it's going for high WAVAs at short distance - racing on the track - planning a sub3 campaign, moving into tri or in Madbark's case aiming to run to the outer edges of the solar system before breakfast.  It's all good stuff.

Personally I'm intimidated by the Comrades up run, which is why it has to be tackled...got to have another of these

Marrows, Cervelo sound Italian but are in fact, after checking wikipedia, Canadian! image Nice riding!

Apparently, (i.e. according to my wife) I'm having second thoughts about spending so much money on the bike. Doesn't she realise that it is cheap with £800 off?.... Some more persuasion might be required..... I'll have to be even more suave and charming than usual over the next couple of days. Shouldn't be too hard.

Good to see the list up again. I need to decide on an Autumnal activity.

Managed not to go off like a fool at the Midland Masters 5000m. It was very hot, humid and ludicrously windy, so I was happy to sit in behind local legend Sharon Orridge for the whole thing, briefly also behind another v35 but she dropped back again around 8 laps in. I did attempt to do some of the work into the wind 4 laps in, but my pacing is clearly pants and the other two came straight back past me 200m later to show me how its done! The time was nothing to write home about, but 1st V35 and second over all behind Sharon is good enough for me a week before I start marathon training.

Good podium Speedy, sounds like you stuck to the plan. I'll have to try a track 5k one of these days.

11 mile plod for me followed by 10 mile Nordic walk. Not the best prep for my race tomorrow but should be OK. See you in the Bigg Market Minni image Target is sub 34 mins for the 5.7 mile race.

10.2k for me today at an easy 7:48 pace to satisfy my OCD when it comes to tidy numbers and 50k for the week. Sounds so much more impressive than 31:x miles. I shall probably revert to imperial when I am in full marathon mode.image
