Another newb question from me - do i really need a riser block for front wheel when using a turbo, as its in my garage wont a block of wood do the same job ? yes i am really that tight
A cat tends to lift the wheel a bit high, which is fine if you're trying to simulate hill reps but otherwise you want something a bit lower... like a tortoise.
a house brick also works quite well - especially one with a frog as the wheel sits nicely in it. who'd have thunk that you can turbo with a cat, tortoise, or frog... I've also used a bucket in the past when I've wanted to raise the front wheel up to simulate a climb - bloody thing was so unstable I nearly did a Meldy and fell off the turbo...
but - a proper riser block is best as it's shaped to hold the wheel and doesn't slip around on the floor as much as many have rubber pads on the underside for grip. doesn't cost a lot in reality
Ride the rollers and you won't need any such dubious publications. Much less boring and good for developing bike handling skills to boot.....maybe not for you M..eldy though.
I bought a riser block, the yellow pages kept sliding about as I furiously rocked around with my mehusive 500W output. Bought one of those custom towelly things too, but that is coz I am a tart.

FB im on my way to piratedom and any thoughts of spending more money and on stuff i dont need should be squashed. i could get 9 bottles of Kopparberg pear cider for the cost of a riser block
looks like ill have a use for last years runners world mags then
has Meldy really feel off a turbo - i thought was just folklore
im afraid the most impressive book i own is probably Statistics WITHOUT Maths for Psychology or SPSS for windows both boring as hell ,
hey, dont diss the pear cider, lovely stuff , i actually used to drink single malts, until i took up tri still have a nice collection af around 40 odd bottles which should see me through the winter though. Real Ale i can do - I'm a Bateman so those of you CAMRA peeps will know what i mean and i live just down from the brewery, but dont get freebies .

it made the cat laugh so I put him to good use
glad you mentioned falls (plural) - it would have been unkind of me to mention that you've had more than one.....
and I was reminded yesterday when Barlos ran into Lindi and knocker her into the wall and all from the comfort of his own garage and two turbos ... !

Our yellow pages isn't very thick so I use that and an old trainer to wedge the front wheel in to.
