<span style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; line-height: 17px; text-align: left;">Snapping away at Abotsbury Swannery today but can any photographer tell me what this is rising out of the bench in the background please? Taken with a Nicon D5000 with Nicon zoom lense 55 - 200mm. Didn't notice anything at the time and its not on any other photo at the time either! Weird. Had to compress it for here so might not have much detail but wtf???

ectoplasm ?
You know who you gotta call !!
How did you have the image printed?
Don't know anything about cameras = is that a digital camera or not?
ok just googled - DSLR - so was this saved as a raw file or jpeg? Does it appear on the original file? Can you just save the area of black and blow that up?
Its digital camillia.
This is the flickr link
It is a beastie, a small insect.
Thanks Martenkay. That seems to be the consensus on fb too. The world isn't coming to an end then.
Wrong, it's a ufo.
Amazing close up, could it be a bee with pollen, I adjusted it again and it does look like it's carrying pollen and I'm sure you can see part of it's face. But it has no legs
Could it not be part of a tree in the immediate foreground - maybe a twig / branch that moved in the wind just as you were taking that particular photo?
definitely looks tree like....you can see a leaf
Bit of tree, if you look at the upper RHS of the image there are branches of the same/similar overhanging forground tree.
It's a ufo I tell you, you can even see the landing gear. It maybe disguised as a bug or a leaf but that's just the aliens being clever.
lol
I agree with Ecoseal, its a tree branch in the foreground that has just crept into shot, you can make out the bark and it is also covered in lichen.
Agree with this.I thought it was a bit of tree in the foreground and the close up makes it look even more so.
UFO would be more fun though!
Yep I agree with the tree consensus which would also explain why it isn't in any of the other shots
Definitely looks like a branch to me from that Flickr link.
You can see how easy it is to start UFO scares eh ?
Brilliant, thanks everyone. A ufo disguised as a tree. I can rest easy now.
Interesting response from the Swannery itself:
knew instantly what your 'phenomenon' is, as amazingly, we have had this happen before (although then it was believed by the photographer to be part of a ghostly woman's anatomy!). Judging from the angle of the photograph you must have taken this shot stood right next to (or at least just to the east of) the 'reed information hut' and the corner of the thatched roof on this building is what you can see in your photo.
Steve Groves, Deputy Swanherd.
PS - what a great job title, Deputy Swanherd.
I read that as "ghastly woman's anatomy" and thought "You're not wrong there mate."
Time to dig out the reading glasses I think.
And yep, great title. The Swan Uppers had a boat on the river pageant-thing for the jubilee if I remember correctly. Our swans have just started parading with their cygnets - reminds me of Danny Kaye.
