Crow Bag - we seem to know little about you and poss vice versa
Hang around the forums, get to know people, tell us a bit about yourself and you will find that you will get to know who you can work with ....this seems to have worked in the past Pick a thread (current flavour would be the Fatman to Ironman thread) and join in the discussions
Better late than never only just spotted the thread. Names cake as most of you already know and a bad tri type from the sheffield area. If you are wanting conpleate tri information about being the next GB star I would talk to someone else but if I can help in any way please shout.
Second fat man to ironman thread it's appears to where most of the newbie's are but there are lots of difference threads on the site.
I've not been on for ages but am happy to mentor. I do answer emails and texts honest. Having retired from all things triathlon related in rather abrupt style at Avon Tyrrell this June I have turned my attention to gardening and chutney manufacture.
If you are the type of person who no one will coach because " You would be a nightmare".
If you dream of qualifying for Hawaii, but are equally likely to be distracted by an invite to enter the coal carrying word championship the week before an important race.
If you don't believe abstinence makes you a better athlete.
If you can hold a sensible converstion about brassica defense and have a few courgette recipes up your sleeve.
Then it could be a fruitful arrangement (for my veg at least).
If you are none of the above then it wouldn't matter I get along with pretty much anyone.
I had a mentee, but she's decided she's got better things to do, so I am also free to take someone on. I would prefer to mentor someone I have at least met, but I dont mind a newbie, or someone with a couple under their belts.
Currently in the market for a mentor if anyone's available and willing to help.
40 year old Yorkshire bloke (probably having a mid life crisis) who's entered for the Outlaw next year having never done a triathlon before...
Preparation thus far has been 20 years of drinking and smoking followed by 1 year of not drinking, not smoking and some swimming, running and cycling.
Got my first Triathlon booked early October (Holmfirth Sprint) so no idea what to expect. Read a few books by so-called experts and a couple by self-admitted non experts which have inspired me to 'go long'.
Am up for the challenge so just need someone help me along the way. All offers welcome!
Jammy What do you want to achieve and stuff are you hoping to give the elite's a run for there money or are you wanted just to get through and better yourself a little there are a few of us around your end entered for outlaw next year so if you want can take in some miles together around the peaks and local hill's.
Hi Cake, thanks for the reply. I don't think any of the Elites will be quaking in their trainers just yet. I think the best way to describe what I want to do is 'my best' - whatever that is...
If I can get round in one piece in 16h 59s then brilliant. If I can get round quicker, then even better.
To be honest, I don't know what I'm capable of doing yet...will deffo take you up on your offer of putting some miles in. Cheers.
Forgot to say, I'll be doing the Fink competitive programme hopefully (cos it's the only programme I've read and it seemed to make sense to me). Gonna spend the next couple of months getting myself upto a level of fitness that I can cope with the training schedule in early December

Coolio, At the moment mate before you get on the plan you might want to think about what the weakest bit of the 3 parts your weak at and improve it as must as you can. Say if your swimming is cr*p get in the pool as much as you can. As well as getting that a bit better getting into a habit of training is going to mean it’s less of a culture shock when you start finking. I’m message you in a bit if it’s cool and sent you my e-mail and stuff if you want to say hello.
Just stick your settings on to allow folks to message you on your profile.
Hi JD2, I can't fulfil your mentor requirment but sounds like you're in a similar boat to me (and no doubt a few others). Outlaw will by my first long distance race, will be using Fink (although the intermediate plan) and will be tootling round Last of the Summer Tri in a couple of weeks.
Last year there was a thread called Fink for Outlaw (or something similar), whereby people could come for support / questions. I'm hoping it will be another fixture for 2013.
Cheers Cake, settings updated to accept messages. You must be psychic! How did you know about my cr@p swimming!! Just joined local gym with a pool as it was sooooo bad. Need to get a couple of swim lessons in first I think as everyone says its mainly technique.
Hiya Stanners, might do a search for the Fink thread and see what I can glean out of it and resurrect it again for this year. Drop me a PM when you get your race number for last of the summer tri and I'll look out for you and say hi.
monique - if your down at AT next year you can slap me every time i stop for a break longer than 10 minutes and remind me that that the double is a piece of piss
PTL - i dont think i could put anyone through mentoring me, if they wasnt grey, bitter and twisted at the start they would be by race day

Doner Kebab I can do slapping.
That didn't sound intimidating, much.
Donor would enjoy it to much.
