Just had a 4 mile recovery run after yesterdays interval naughtiness.
Here's a video that my running partner Joe made of us at a half marathon 3 years ago. It's quite amusing. It's a lesson to all, to stay off the junk food and live healthier lives. People outside the UK mayhave trouble viewing it and likewise, there will be problems with handheld devices. But those who can view it - enjoy!
DV - do you normally run with a phone? Is that common these days?
It is compulsory. It's a safety requirement and is part of the mandatory kit list. These events are off-road, usually isolated and of course go through the night. The phone has to be fully charged at the start and have the phone numbers of the emergency medic and the race control centre already entered.
I have a small mobile phone charger with me that will re-charge the phone up to three times I think.
Does anyone else find that a depression descends a few days after a race. For example, after the Liv half on sunday I have felt a little low. of course, we have Paris to look forward to but I have no races planned afterwards. So a severe depression warning is in place. it could be just the god foresaken weather we are enjoying at the moment. You think you are into March. you have survived the summer and it gives us 5 inches (of snow).
Anyway, may do Shrewsbury Half or Full Marathon in June and it looks like Dublin Marathon in October.
thats the addiction mate. You have to sign for more and MORE AND MORE
I've carried a camera on my previous marathons. I just put it in the armband I usually use for my phone. Ths year I might wear one of the GoPro video cameras.
Orbutt - where are you staying? We are also very clse to the Rch at the Splendd Etiole.
Brian, we'll assimilate you into our collective - we'll add your uniqueness to our own!
(yes i'm partial to the Trek as well as the Wars - i'm not one or the other - i'm Bi-Scifi-exual)
Can't beat first series Star Trek. Loved the interplay between Spok & McCoy and kirk was like a space age James Bond, but with moobs. Sci-fi is interesting for how the author/society sees the future. Look at Star Trek and America had won the cold war. Black people were semi-accepted but women were very much second class. Compare with a good deal of UK sci-fi where there's a dystopian society normally.
James - spot on. After a race I always feel a bit 'cold turkey'. After a marathon it's even more extreme as for 4-6 months it's probably been a dominant focus in your life and suddenly it's all gone. People often do sign up for the next one in that period.

Ok folks, it's very important that we avoid a level of effort causing breathlessness. You heard it here first....
SO NO SEX TILL AFTER THE RACE THEN?
Expect post-marathon tristesse....
That's right JB. But you can shag yourself daft afterwards...
Well at least I've perfected that part of the training plan! I'll just say I'm training 24/7 all year.
He can probably shag himslef before too, but afterwards his reward is to shag someone else
We'll make him a wee sign to hang round his neck saying "How about it, darlin?". It'll go down a storm in the massage queue....
yeah - nothing like going on the razzle just after you've done 26 miles. It's a great look (and smell) all round
i must remember to bring my sample bottle of Denim on my running belt so i can work the Jimbob magic after the run, Paris lock up your daughters
