  • Hi Sarge... Not being picky but think you've got you MPH mixed up with mins per mile image When I asked about goals, I was told that theres alot of training time to go before setting any realistic goals for the races fitness increases quite dramatically at first the key is to keep to the training regime.

Start of my training this year I wanted to do a 4:15 marathon, I ammended that to 4:00 at the start of the 13 week plan, then at the end of it i was looking at 3:45. (I did 3:40) which is

  • Lot of time for training. Still need goals - little steps, little mrkers

All on e road to results!

Ill take 30 mins positive moveent on actuals come race day!
  • i get a lot of things mized upimage

skipped a bike session as Im still recovering. bear with a sore head now. will be running tonight, if only briefly. aiming for 30 mins - might stretch to 45 if my lungs co-operate.

OH just been telling me I need to stick with the exercise as the bro inlaw just lost 2.5st over the last few months and his health issue cleared up a treat. Concerned im a prime candidate for the same issue if i dont drop the lard. ( * does this count as a free pass to train as/when/howlong/wherever/whatever I want ? )

wish she'd just make A decision and stick with it. rather than a DIFFERENT decision and not stick with it.

new trainers at the weekend. garmin 910 as my 'xmas gift' list (just as well I dint buy one for myself - that might have been a tad blue touchpaper moment). race in 2 weeks. youve gotta laugh image

and ive ordered my team colours. just have to earn them next summer ( and learn to add up )

    hows everyone else?

  • Just had a gentle 4 mile run with the OH, gorgeous in the sun ( the OH is quite cute a well)

    sweet mr Spartan

  • Old romantic me ! (With the emphasis on old, if you listen to Holgs & Cake)
  • Behave or I won't show you a good place for a pint after Helsby
  • image You up for a pint them wasn't sure if people where interested.

  • I'm always up for pint, and I run to the start from home in 15 mins
  • just got a long run in, 4.5 miles or so on a very wet field, with the grass cut or indeed not. soaked. cold. filthy. and slowwww (14min milling). not happy bunny

on the other hand, OH approved garmin 910 gubbins for chrimbo, more training, more training gear. i think shes either lost it or is cheating on me.

LOL. Im getting a garmin and I dont have to pay for it. ( and something about the OH getting jiggy )

    SWIMMING tonight. yeah!

  • Swimming done. thats 1900mtrs tonight! 4 x 400is in around 9.22avg with a wu and wd.

    fairly worn out now. image

  • Well done Sarge you really are an inspiration and have really got the bit between your teeth...I cant wait to see the physio and get my back fixed I am a very bad tempered sick note and soo frustrated to see my fitness slipping away and the pounds piling on grrrrrr image

  • ahhhh, rest days are for resting. training days are wha tthe other 6 days in the week are for.

OH has taken delivery of a new silver home appliance and I have 1 brownie point to spend on a 45 minute run tonight.  yah me. lol

need a solid 5k in that run. first race is looking awfully big in the window  ( stealing a line from that fine apollo 13  film ).  OH is freaking out about me racing after spending all of 3 months training....I could die or anything.  my money is on the or anything - but I do have life insurance ( a point not well received by the OH ).

need to squeeze a swim in on one of these mornings. another habit I must form along with a lunchtime run - I can see a nice gentle hill/ and a flatish 3 mile loop thereafter from my new corner office.

(must bring wet wipes and deoderant to the office in place of showers)

  • aaahhhh Penny drops. The wife was waiting on the home appliance and thus didnt object to the expenditure on training gubbins. shes not as daft as she likes to let me she is.

  • Good training Sgt... Off line this week as away in the Lake District so limited internet..

  • Sarge you should have learnet that we women are always one step ahead of the men. My hubby is much happier now I've done a few races and not hurt myself.

  • image Ali. all OH are clairvoiant multi taskers.

Still, installed the new appliance, removed the old appliance, washed up and made like a well trained if not wholly house trained obedient dog.

got my run in ( 45mins on the treadmill ~ 3.8 miles avg 11.50 but its a treadmill, so combanting dullsville with moving the pace and the incline between 11 and 12m20 and incline 0-3 but average around 1.5 )

looking forward to my brick session tonight and preping for a swim in the pool in the morning.

onthe lookout for a large fan for the turbo/treadmill setup - i like to run coolimage ( id like to run fast enough to class it as running and not jogging )

still no word on the waitlist converting for the full outlaw. ( fingers crossed, as Id like to get both distances away next year ) image

    hows everyone else doing. ?

Im only 10 days out from my first event.  and I found a local flatish half marathon I can enter in March which ties nicely into the outlaw prep. on the lookout for a 50m TT around the same timeframe just to put the mind at ease.

  • Lard which half you doing?

  • Im signed up for outlaw half., paid and displayed image

     I have an aquathon *(400m + 5k ) on the 18th.

Hoping for a place but was reading this PSOF championship thing in another thread and got as far as thinking .....

Half Outlaw June 2nd, Full Outlaw 7th July ( pressuming a waitlist place opens ) and PSOF championship at Challenge Henly on the 8th September.

I say 'thought' but really, i looked at the calendar and it fitted. No idea if Im setting myself up for a fall .... but .... no guts, need a colostomy bag then. image

  • well, henley is 2 months after outlaw.image if you get round outlaw, then it is a case of recovery and maintenance I guess

  • have to get into outlaw first...... really like the idea of surviving a half then a full then having another lined up so as to keep the momentum going so to speak.

already thinking outlaw half and ironmoan UK next year. maybe ironmoaning wales to close 2014.

2015 ...... well, has to be a race in the sunshine really, doesnt it. or an ultraironman distance thing. I mean, if im that crazy ill do an ironman then longer has to be crazier.

but back to the hear an now. Im thinking that I should commit the funds to a long distance and not just keep praying (*praying is another sign of how crazy attempting ironman Tri is ) for a spot at outlaw.  besides - its a long time after outlaw to 2014 without a race or two.

I do quite fancy the commando course event - yomp from CTCRM up to the endurance circuit - complete the endurance circuit and run back to camp. all for charity of course.  (* dont like to talk about it )  Just for fun you understand.... in boots and with webbing/load ( 35lbs of gear ).

  • Lard you could always take in a few marathons for a laugh after outlaw if you wanted. They are a different beast to train for and a slightly different goal. The commando challenge course if it's the one I thing it is is hard but only a few k's so something you might want to do for a laugh between ironman's and things.

  • Hi Cake.Yes, its around 10k - but in boots, in the autumn with a loaded webbing set. fun fun fun.

Im going to look into any longer distance duathalons. that seems like fun too.

spoke with outlaw management, and perhaps christmas time might see a first block of released places as people suddenly realise how miserable training in winter is after stuffing their necks with turkey and trimmings.

Ill keep the budget intact until then.

got my brick session away - 30+15. enjoyed the run but the bike needs more work. didnt feel taxing enough until I started a couple 1 on 1 off intervals inthe last 10 minutes. im going to have to 'create' a little audio mix to remind me when to up the ante and when to backit down a little. ( as in audio fuel? cant be hard to create a series of sound bites and then edit them into an audio file . might seek out a little 'hollywood' soubbites to give it gravitas - a bit of full metal jacket sargeant enouragement ) . Also, going to try a little sufferfest - mind you, they could use a little dialogue to complement the visuals. ( i do rather like the spinnervals approach )

missed my swim this am as the OH isnt 100%.  will do a reccy at lunchtime and replan for the morning.

hi ho, back to work I go.

  • grrrr. feeling lardy.  need to get a bit of running in. just as soon as everyone slopes of to bed, im getting 60 mniutes of self abuse on the treadmill image

may try a few rolling hills or intervals - just to see what the machine can do on these pre-programmed routines.

tomorrow must begin with turbo torture. time for 90minutes of indoctrination.

  • Sarge. A portable DVD player can be picked up for a few scratchings in the high street porn shop or a boot sale. Always presuming that you live in a cash strapped and depressed place like me, ie Britain.

I cobbled together a working one out of the two Christmas presents that my kids destroyed in 12 months.

Hours in the pool plus coaching sessions = technique and endurance. 6 to 9 months, sorted.
Hours pounding the tready or the streets, multiple benefits, weight and endurance. Speed improvements creep in. I don't know how long you'd need to be able to run a full marathon. The second half is a damn sight further than the first half.
Hours on the bike = endurance and saddle arse. The tri people consistently say that its "all about the bike". We've got to be able to cycle 112 miles as though it's a commute to work.

  • Unfortunately, sad family news curtailed training plans.

I managed my long run tonight and might get a long bike in tomorrow. sufferfest lined up.

All depends on events at the hospital.

    image

  • oh dear.

    Life does have its priorities.

  • ((((((((sarge))))))))) hope things ok. Don't worry about training, nothing is undone in a few days. Look after you're family. (p.s. We all have lardy days!).

  • Ive had a lardy decade or decade and a half

    Thanks for best wishes
