Good question, to which I do not know the answer, Steve. However, in other marathons, I think they tend to send a 'sweep van' round at the equivalent pace (i.e. 6 hours), and offer the chance for back markers to get a lift. If they refuse, which they can do, I think they are asked to continue on pavements / edge of the road, as the roads may be opened shortly after.
Hi all, after a lot of ummmming & arrrrring I've decided to bite the bullet and sign up for this as my first Marathon (It will be 3 weeks before my 55th!!!).
Just seems a big step up from halfs, doing warwick half in march so hopefully time enough to step up training for this, see you all there.
Andover parkrun felt like a marathon this morning carrying all that mud around!!!
Steve I don't know about last year as I didn't do the race, but the year before, we were on our way home and we saw the sweep vehicles clearing the road, there were still plenty of runners, and I can't see the organisers not giving them a medal really. I wonder if it's something to do with insurance and road closures etc?

They are usually at the Four Villages half leafleting so I will ask them if I see them next week.
After a bad year injury wise, I had a huge smile crossing the line last year, felt like I'd earned it.
What do the experiance people think I should be looking at as a training plan, This being my first Marathon, I've done a few 10 miles, one half marathon (and Warwick half coming up in March). my times so far suggest a sub 4:30 marathon, should I look at a sub 4:30 training plan or as it"s such a big step should I be really looking at a get me round plan?

Doing Four Villages next week, Wrexham Village Bakery in Feb probably Manchester in April might do Liverpool half as well think its in March or may, and Chester half ! What are you doing ?
I was a marshall for this last year they do have a sweep up vehicle.
15 miles this morning on the treadmill as it was to slippy here, running on the treadmill seems to last for ever.

Hi everyone, I've signed up for this, I've also signed up for the 1/2 in May. The most I've ran before is 10k, but hopefully by the time October comes round I'll be ready for it

A really nice race. So well organised, & all marshals & staff are friendly & encouraging.
Great support for the slower runners too. The last runners are greeted by friendly marshals handing them a medal with a smile.
Hi Steve. The six hour time limit is for the road closures. The sweep buses work their way round the course at six hour pace offering a pick-up, however, runners are still ok to continue but will be asked to proceed as prudent pedestrians and offered a hi-vis jacket. The finish remains open and ALL finishers will get their medal, tech race shirt, goody bag, drinks, baggage etc.
Same here Steve, according the RW calulator I should be looking at something around 4:30, but just begging to panic about how much harder this is going to be than a half. As you say will be really pleased just to get to the end.
Finally got round to entering! Hoping for a much better experience than last year. Seems like ages away but it will be here before we know it!
I am pondering entering this year, as my first marathon, but not looking to commit until April/May time. But am a bit worried that the cancellation of the Liverpool Marathon and the fact that the race was voted the UK's fav might mean its a sell out before then.
Are my fears grounded?
I did it last year as my first marathon and can highly recomend it. Great race, great atmosphere and a lovely city to visit.
