it will be outside what I'm aiming for... was kinda including those deep carbon rimmed wheels in the whole shebang of the disc wheel set up... along with those very sexy carbon 3 and 4 spokes... <<drool>>
Disc wheels are expensive, get damaged easily, and are good if you do a lot of flat short courses or time-trialling, not really helpful if you're racing hills or as already said, in windy conditions. Riding a lot of steep hills at speed they tend to get very hot and can easily flat. They are quite delicate.
If you were doing the flat RTTC courses then disks are almost compulsory, but if its for Tris where the routes are much hillier then I think you'll be at a disadvantage.
Plus as people say - they are dangerous in crosswinds. I'd go for a pair of Mavic Cosmics - not too deep a rim, as that's a bit of a nightmare too.
thats where credit cards come.... then its even better... its not EVEN your own money yer spending.. how are you supposed to be responsible about things when spending SOMEONE ELSES money eh... I mean...

I'd just go for a good set of deep rimmed wheels
