Why have they called the movie 'Jack Reacher' with no reference to the book it's based on?  It's like calling 'Casino Royal' 'James Bond'

And as for better options for Reacher, how about Hugh Jackman or Josh Holloway

Maybe they aren't expecting to make a second film?

I'm guessing Hugh Jackman was too busy being Jean Valjean at the time.

True. And that's a movie I definitely plan on going to see - though will probably have to buy some sort of gag before I go to stop me singing along image

It's interesting because Jean Valjean has always been portrayed with white hair and beard. They've sexed him up by casting Hugh Jackman, which should be sacrilege, but sudenly I can't imagine him looking any different - I suppose that's a case of where imaginative casting has actually worked.

Hadn't considered that before but as Valjean could be anywhere from around 35 upwards, no reason why he needs to have white hair and beard.

Which doesn't say much for the makers' confidence in their product

  • I did laugh when I realised who was playing Jack of all the shortarses they had to pick the one that is the biggest  pain in the arse !

Seriously takes away from the film ,but the yanks love this idea of TC playing a hard arse as they they think he is being macho to save his image!

  • The reason I mention it is because the convention of the stage production was that Valjean had white hair and beard.

Also the chronology of the books says Jean Valjean is  born in 1769 and steals the bread in 1795, he's therefore released when he's 45 and is something like 51 by the time he becomes mayor under his assumed name.

  • Didn't check the book, just worked off idea that he could've been in late teens when he was convicted, therefore potentially still youngish (it's all relative!) when released

  • I won't be seeing the film - can't take Cruise seriously any more and certainly not as Jack Reacher, that's utterly ridiculous.

  • Also boycotting the film. Might see a pirate version some day... (no pun etc. etc)

I was thinking Clive Owen would fit the bill
